He says he's seeing her, but it's a reference to the broadcast we're seeing, not as if she's in front of him. This is a "tomogram", not a "hologram". A tomogram has 35 cameras and a good computer placing her on a screen as if she was visible in a studio. The red disc on the floor is just bullshit to make people think it's coming from there and as a placeholder for what direction the person actually there has to look over at.

I laughed pretty hard when he does that stupid move at the end and says "Check it out" and Anderson Cooper just moves on (obviously because he can't tell what the crap he's doing).

Very cool, but I wonder what the anchor is looking at. Monitors work for weather forecasting but when you're engaged in dialogue with another person it must be quite awkward.
