I live in hollister, and it think it is a prertty light town, we have lots of history and we are 1:00 away from the beach, sanjose, hiking, and 2:00 hours away from San Fran, I funnking hate every one who I tell I live in hollister think that I ether live in the funking store or in some town that is filled with surfers and beach sluts. The biggest gathering we have is the fair, or our rodeo!
@post107 Great summary of what it's like to live there! I wonder why the clothing company pays no attention to the rodeo. What would it say about the brand if they did use rodeo images to sell their clothes?
I don't buy their clothing. But I have no problem with image that they are pushing. It's a perception of reality. Like most things in life. There is nothing wrong with people wanting to buy clothes if it makes them feel connected or cool. If it helps someone's self-esteem that's fine.
@ChristopherMillerNow But clothes don't help anyone's self esteem. Of course, for-profit interests will sell them to you as a sense of identity and self-esteem, but that is their job: to get you to buy their product.
It's nonsensical to think that external conditions like clothes or cars have any real effect on self esteem. If true self esteem is there, why the need for certain clothes in the first place?
I have been through Hollister (i don't live there) but it looked sort of abandoned and mean. No offence to people who live there, just an observation.
Some people don't like my town. I've always wondered why in the world is there a store called Hollister with a bunch of guys that don't have any shirts on. I mean REALLY. I once saw some guys lying down in front of what is now Santa something Bank and Trust. It was random.
A simple glance at demographic statistics regarding gang violence and crime would show that Hollister is one safest towns in the Bay Area Hit me up. The clothes suck. I grew up in Hollister, so did my father and so did his father and so on. I'm a sixth generation Californian and finishing up a MA at Cal-Berkeley while my sister already has a JD from Cal-Berkeley. If you dislike Hollister, you still live with your parents or i fucked you up in high school. VIva Hollis.
@themediashow Well, it is a small ghetto town FULL of gangsters! The city really has no good sides except ridgemark, quail hallow, and few other neighborhoods outside the town. It is huge in farming so it is also loaded with cowboys. Theres not much to do so you have to find stuff. Many people say "All there is to do in this town is talk shit and get high" Yeeup that sums up Hollister. But its kinda fun because everybody knows everybody because theres only 1 high school
@plvkd that's the best description we've heard yet! Can you send us some pictures or post your own short video about it? We want people to know what it's really like!
@themediashow Ignore this douche. Berkeley sociology degrees will help you learn....this douche didn't mention that Hollister is considered to be the Earthquake capitol of the world. Not as if this is a good thing; but the WORLD!? That's significant. We also have the second largest biker rally (next to sturgess in the Dakotas) in America. The high school is massive so many kids get lost in the system and in life and subsequently still live with their parents and bitch like this kid
30 min to San Jose. 30 min Monterey. 30 min Santa Cruz. 1:20 to San Fran or Oakland. All the joys of concerts, sports, surfing, etc. Brats who talk shit about the town they live in because they don't want to admit their own apathy has them stuck there. It's 50/50 with the hispanic and white communities. Pretty much no tension between the two. I'm a Berkeley grad student and had MANY norteno friends...
I was born and raised in Hollister. Nothing but motocross, planes, skydiving, sports, music (not for long) and drugs. Our HS mascot is the Hay Baler. We don;t have a mall, that is just the clock tower plaza. Nothing spectacular about it. Our "mall" is target.
read this for a great description of what Hollister is really like. This article totally hates on our little town, but it is all true. Keep in mind the article was made as a joke, so don't get offended.
@RobTFirefly it sucks because its from a wack ass brand... i see hollister all over the place now...in the video a girl said its a street in Brooklyn..its called hollis...check run dmc.... when i tell people i see wearing that stuff i say " i live there" and they look at me like im mental..
@themediashow ---im not trollin....hollister california is a small town where people can relax and not have to deal with the stress of big city life,..no traffic not that much crime.and there is always a place to go and have fun,,..your right it is a small town, but its peaceful.people judge it because they dont see sky scrapers and a liquor store on every corner..or we dont have 29 clubs.but what we do have is easy living.thats about it...got more questions just ask.
@majornanook Ask us a question about the media which has been on your mind forever, and we will absolutely try to use it!
But we ask a favor in return -- if there's an ep you really like, get it up on Digg or Reddit or StumbleUpon or even the Faceyspaces or the MyTweets or whatever link-sharing site you usually dig? we will luzz you forevars. we has no advertising budget, so you're our only hope.
Also we'll probably do a live video chat in January so we can say things TO you WITH OUR FACES
When you buy a product you are also chosing to buy the gestalt. Advertising serves to define and/or blur the boundaries of the product's gestalt. It adds a layer of complexity to our simple lives. Like puppets do! I enjoy advertising, it keeps me guessing!
Man, the people Weena interviewed for this ep were really finding her puppetyness to be confusing... wait til you see the outtakes. We had to do a lot of "my eyes are up HERE" kind of stuff.

well the trickyer it is, the less trusting it will be and the less demand it will have. probably P:
personally, i just look for jeans that don't bulge on the crotch and t-shirts that are different, semi-simple, and apealing.
