Fantastic even in its poor quality. Duane is just relentless! Thanks for posting! Does anyone know of any high quality recording for this show of is this the only archive?
I have a friend in Florida who was at the Tampa concert. He said they would trade riffs, look at each other, shake their heads like they couldn't believe what they were hearing, smile and tear off another one even better that the last one. Sources say these concerts were disastrous but I've heard as many as I can find and I think the band was awesome, with and without Duane!
ive been looking for a live version of this forever! finally found it! this is amazing i was beginning to think they never performed it live or it wasnt on recording. If only it was better quality. still good tho. derek and the dominos were so amazing
Saw this lineup in Syracuse (December 6th?). Best concert! Duane and Eric really seemed comfortable with each other and they were clearly having a blast together. It was shocking to me to see how much of the Layla recordings were Duane's work. Eric and Duane were my two main influences on guitar, so this concert was very special to me.
@mikestrat56 I know. Nowadays Clapton can do whatever he wants and nobody bats an eye. But back then this was new stuff and most people were wanting more of the same "Son of Cream part II" music from Eric. New ideas took a while to accept it seems. The recording is great. You can hear the bass, keys. vocals. and most importantly; the guitars. It was a privilige to hear this.
How do I get a copy of this?

Wish this were the gig that was professionally recorded for the official live album Atco put out. Damn, it sounds like it was a great show.

i'd give my right arm to see the video of this, eric and duane together on stage ... just heavenly!
the folks present there most likely had no clue of the epic moment in time they were witnessing.

No. The piano ending was written by Jim Gordon (the drummer). Eric apparently
heard him playing it and asked him if he would want to combine it with his. Before the
LP's release ATCO released Eric's part alone as a single (without the piano part) to a
lukewarm reception on Billboard. (incredibly)

Duane wrote the opening riff.
johnmitchel1958 11 months ago
@johnmitchel1958 i think eric actually wrote the opening riff, but duane got him to play it in double time.
i could be wrong.
danogzilla 11 months ago
@danogzilla...from what i've heard duane actually came up with the opening, and sped it up as well

@johnmitchel1958 as well at the piano coda in the middle of the song
