  • 13 years ago next month...i feel so old saying that!

  • i remember this when i was a kid. My grandparents watched the weather every morning

  • I was turning 10 during this but this brings back so many memories of being in kindergarten and watching this early in the morning when I would get up and there would be nothing on TV. I hate the new graphics/look.

  • Holy crap, I used to live in Columbus, MS during this time. Complete blast from the past, thanks for posting this!

  • I LOVE this song...... idk the name....

  • Sienna by Ray Obiedo. Album "Perfect Crime"

  • You have to be lower than that to get 70 degrees in Winter

  • Who get 70 degrees in the middle of winter?????

  • nice.......... I like this....

  • THANKS! I've finally found it! This is my FAVORITE piece of music used on TWC!!

  • I am pretty sure this was the day of the historic tornado outbreak of janaury 1999

  • Now we get to hear stupid pop music for the local forecast. The weather channel has taken huge steps backward recently

  • Omg I remember this song when I was 10!!!

  • They should still have this LF style, but with slightly better graphic icons. Brings back so many memories.

  • brings back good memeories,

  • Wow.... 11 yrs ago! where is the time going, this was soooo much better than now... Change ISN'T always good....

  • I guess we are just old school like that. Why mess up a good thing ? Wait they did.

  • I agree that the Weather Channel was its best when it played exclusively jazz/smooth jazz. The stuff they play now is not good at all. We hear enough of the mainstream music of motown, pop and smooth rock everyday and everywhere. Jazz was more suited for this type of show.

  • yeah i remember this song its when they use to always play jazz only thats the way it should be jazz only.too bad its changed.

  • L-OL I do remember this one! aahh! r u serious!

  • OMG, Weatherstar 4000 FTW. I miss this format so effing much.

  • beautiful song!

  • my sister was born on that day! funny!~

  • January 22, 1999?

  • how do you post TWC on the internet from a VHS? i have one from June 7th 1999 and i love that song on there....i tried to call the weatehr channel back then to see what the name of the song was but they dont know and they said i could order a CD but never sent one out. can someone help me?

  • Somehow depressing :/

  • Sheesh, this brings me back to high school...but, in a good way.

I was in high school at the time this local forecast aired.

  • oh yes. the good old days when the weather channel was the bomb. it totally sucks now. nothing but storm stories, when weather changed history, and that abrams and bettes b.s. bring me back the old weather channel any day, it reminds me of a better time in my life.

  • Amen mrmom915. I would love the original WC back, not this HD crap it is now.

  • You would think the Weather Channel staff would know that most Weather Channel purists, who they get a large portion of their viewership from, are unhappy about the format now.

  • Very well put.

  • I agree. Classic TWC ruled. The XL and Intellistar stole the Star 4000's thunder when they were introduced.

  • I agree. It was before NBC UNIVERSAL screwed everything up. We still have our WeatherStar 4000 unit here in Brookfield, MO and it looks really nice. I hope they DO NOT upgrade to an Intellistar, or an Intellistar XL because it looks like crap.

  • now thats cool!

  • and i love the WeatherSTAR XL 2001-2005 version! and the weather forecast on DirecTV sucks big time! i dont like weatherscan and intelliStar.

  • i miss the 2001 - 2003 intro segments! and im talking about the ones with the "live by it" slogan. they were my favorite and they are still my favorite. and the TWC changed everything! no more storm stories. the old icons were replaced by new "detail" ones... which don't meant for the look of the Weather Channel, and i also still miss the old Weather Channel logo. also the local forecast are meant to look like on this video.

  • i remember watching the local forecast back in 99 but for some reason i dont remember this. o_O

  • I agree it's not the same any more. All that HD stuff sucks, call me stuck in the 90's but times were better then.

  • Yeah, and I wish they had kept the old 'J', 'M' and 'L' flavor local forecasts on the 4000 past 1998. Certain people want to travel to California or Florida, and some of those people don't feel like watching regional maps sometimes to get such forecasts. At least the WeatherStar Jr. still has one on its 'M' flavor.

  • I also wish that TWC would also make their own short-term forecasts for the WeatherStar 4000 to replace the NWS Local Update from the National Weather Service.

  • Ditto. I'm like you dude. Well, at least where I live we still have our WeatherStar 4000.

  • Thanx 4 posting

  • Ah the good ol' days of TWC. Good times. Thanks for posting!

  • Ray Obiedo - Sienna

  • Yes, but I remember this intro clearly if it was combined with an XL.

  • This is the way a Local Forecast is mean't to look and sound. It just isn't the same anymore, especially with all the HD stuff...

  • @XtremeWeirdo exactly. simple and to the point so you can get on with your day
