I guess it's how the words are used locally but for me the following is how i see the meanings :-)

Take me on - Can be see 2 ways, as a threat or a challenge

Take on me - Is a requset.

Thanks. I make some of them. Tiu was a gift from the leaders of the team i volunteer with. puppets for jesus, based in the UK. they make and sell them and that is where i also have made some of mine :-)
