  • I love how all of you say that Opeth is no longer Metal, remember the album Damnation? No heavy songs on that one either. You guys need to learn your Opeth catalogue a little better before you start branding them what you want.

  • @TheHeavy666Metal But no one said that Damnation was metal either. What's your point?

  • @TheHeavy666Metal Opeth is a progressive death metal band never speak anything you don't know no one is saying that OPETH isn't metal this is just your opinion.

  • @hashimali72 I have a feeling you might have misinterpreted what he said.

  • @hashimali72 Look dick, this band is my life and all I see are a bunch of fucking cry babies going on about how they have been betrayed by Opeth and their latest album. you need to choose more carefully who you go after, retard. I love this band so much, I got their name tattooed on my neck. Go after the one's who keep dragging my heroes through the mud, asshole.

  • Opeth is a Death metal band ffs, Mikael himself called the band a progressive death metal band until today. But i would say progressive rock/metal, which they are actually calling themselfs now days.

Progressive metal, not heavy metal! OPETH

  • @Hedeskog89

And progressive means variation, experimental, whatever...

Opeth are influenced by Led zeppelin, Iron maiden, The beatles, Rainbow, Black sabbath.

They also got influences from jazz, rock and blues... They mix together their own thing!

  • @Hedeskog89 This is what I call a Real Opeth Fan. Real Opeth Fan bothers to read up about the band's profile, Thank you for posting. Dude, you rock

  • best fuckin outro ever

  • It annoys me how people complain about how they have "given up" death metal. They never said they did, it was just for Heritage, they did the same thing with Damnation, REMEMBER? :)

  • And after listening to various Death Metal I think Mikael really have the skill of growling. He is able to maintain the same growl at different intonation and I think it is not something easy to do. I am surprise to learn that Opeth is no longer a Metal Band and I feel it's a waste if they gives up Metal.

  • I used to only listen to classical music, but when I first heared Opeth on this Wacken DVD, I am mesmerise by it and and I began to fall in love with Progressive Death Metal. I think Opeth made an amazing job integrating Classical music with Death Metal. Such wonderful piece of composition and I personally feel that it's a waste to drop this genre.

  • @vJaxz they didnt combine classical music with death metal, wtf

  • @celticwarrior222 It is called progressive Death... this genre has been around for ages... Some people like it, some don't...

  • @vJaxz yeh i love opeth, i just dont get what you mean when you say classical music

  • @celticwarrior222 why do you mean you don't get it? Cite from Wikipedia: Progressive metal (sometimes known as prog metal) is a subgenre of heavy metal, which blends the powerful, guitar-driven sound of metal with the complex compositional structures, odd time signatures, diverse philosophical lyrics and intricate instrumental playing of progressive rock.

  • @vJaxz dude...why bother categorizing all that stuff....no one gives a shit,i mean its bound for someone to have a different opinion...lets just sit back and allow ourselves to get blown away by a phenomenon that is OPETH

  • @celticwarrior222 Additionally, the arrangements often incorporated elements drawn from ""classical"", jazz, and later world music. Instrumentals were common, while songs with lyrics were sometimes conceptual, abstract, or based in fantasy.

  • @celticwarrior222 Cited from wikipedia: Opeth is a Swedish heavy metal band from Stockholm, formed in 1990. Though the group has been through several personnel changes, singer, guitarist, and songwriter Mikael Åkerfeldt has remained Opeth's driving force throughout the years. Opeth has consistently incorporated progressive, folk, blues, classical and jazz influences into their usually lengthy compositions.

  • @vJaxz i agree with all of that apart from the classical, opeth may be influenced by classical music but in no way is it encorporated into their music. They aren't some fret wanking neo classical outfit

  • @vJaxz I dont believe.

  • @SpearShark Don't believe as in which or what?

  • @vJaxz That you only listened classical before get into to opeth.

  • @SpearShark Why not... I listened to them during while I was in Primary School (forgot what age I was) to 15 years old. Our Primary Education would be your Junior School in your country's context. I still have my Best collections of Beethoven; Mozart; Tchaikovsky; Chopin; Strauss; Bach; Vivaldi; Marches from Classics; Luciano Pavarotti & Placido Domingo; Romantic Classics

I also Listen to modern classics like Vanessa Mae, and Kitaro.

  • @vJaxz: I think it's easy to compare Mikael with one of the greats. He's the Mozart of our time. Or Sibelius maybe.

  • @SpearShark But when I lived 6 months in Germany, Kassel town when I am working in Krauss Maffei Wegmann, my love for Metal grew...

  • @vJaxz "I personally feel that it's a waste to drop this genre." What do you mean by "drop this genre"?

  • @jek21 Hi, that comment was actually a response to metalstorm14 who posted here about 6 months ago from now, that I personally think that Mikael has a very good vocal and his composition is very good for my taste. Just listen and feel this song man, one of my favourites. What a perfect growl... it would be a waste that they are not metal anymore. :)

  • @vJaxz What do you mean by classical music? Baroque? Renaissance? Classical? Romantic? Having a violin sound in a band doesnt make something immediately classical influenced.

  • @pilotoatomico It's the chords style, I thought that's what I feel after listening... :) I love the way how this piece of music is composed. I am not sure if Mikael had Heir Apparent influenced with Classical style, however that's generally what I feel after listening to this music and I like his style, this song is simply just so wonderful and amazing beyonds words to describe. :)

  • @vJaxz Well dude they are dissonant chords. It doesn't have to do anything with classical music. Classical music is a very broad genre, you can't just say something is Classicaly influenced. For example, Yngwie Malmsteen would be baroque influenced due to his baroque chord progressions.

  • @pilotoatomico thanks for clearing things up, I didn't went to such in depth. It's specific.

  • @pilotoatomico im a music major in college currently opeth has a very classical tinge the music is more complicated than a lot of classical music i actually consider mikael to be one of the greatist composers of all time not a song writer although i wouldnt call them classical but foward thinking and different it what makes them on of the greatist bands of all time

  • yes, you're right...

  • Fucking tight live band!!!!!!!

  • He officially lost his growls.

  • @soullessSiIence oh yeas..... it's one of the worst news in metal's world....even so, Mikael is still a wonderful songwriter and I'm sure Opeth will remain an excelent band for many years...

  • @metalstorm14 It is bad new in the metal world. They are not metal anymore. Next album is rock music. Think again what you said. And yes, they will remain one of the best bands I've heard.
