"pree-decessor" lol, while it may be one correct way to pronounce it; i've never, in my life, heard anyone say "pree-decessor".. just gave me a chuckle how narratives always try to find new ways to make the script sound better, but the one word ends up sounding silly.
i can see the potential of this though the game play, if they are showing actual gameplay in some of the parts, looks stiff, and not very fluid. That itself doesn't break a game but I hope thats the worst of it. As this actually looks like it would be pretty good. I'm glad Atlus has their hands on this.
Also I would like to see Bethesda make this like "hafedyehuda" said but seeing how skyrim was one of the most broken games I ever bought I'd rather they didn't. (Still love bethesda though:)
@hafedyehuda Song of ice and fire is meant to focus on characters, bethesda doesn't make memorable characters or story they make memorable and open worlds. If anyone, Bioware or CD Projekt should be on it.
@ItIsTheInvisibleMan CD Projekt is not able to create memorable characters and/or a memorable story. The only video game developed by Bioware that has anything memorable would be Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Mass Effect. Still, Game of Thrones should be developed by CD Projekt.
@DestinyKnightX To be fair mate, thats all up to opinion, i think Baldurs gate and Drgon age has some of the most memorable charachters of all time, its down to preference, i mean i will always remember Minsc, Morrigan, Sten, Alistair, Viconia, Korgan. And for me the stories CD and Bioware are memroable, save DA2... Its down to personal opinion, i was stating my comment as an opnion not trying to force a "fact" down someones throat.
Instead of running into bandits your run into blood mummers. Instead of fighting for the Nords, you fight for the King of North. Instead of overrated and overused Skyrim jokes, you get Game of Thrones.
@hafedyehuda I must say that I do not agree. At all. Games like Elder Scrolls work because of the nature of the universe and how the story really has no tight constraints or consequences. Games like The Witcher (1+2) and presumably this one rely on hub-based missions because that's the only way to properly see the rebound of your choices in a meaningful fashion. I don't think ASoIaF would ever properly work as an open world game because of it's nature.
LOL@ the 1990's graphics. No but seriously, Is this DirectX 7? If this game is going to be anything like the RTS they failed at, this game will SUCK bad. I agree, Bethesda should've grabbed it, and then launched the RPG, then shortly after launch Game of Thrones MMO! Could've been their entrance into the mmo world, but meh.
@destructyo should it then go to some big and known game studio? for small ones need licenses to get their games to general public(not always but often) and how would cyanide get better at making games without making games?
@FinFalloutFan Yeah, sure, I think it should've gone to another, more established studio.
Cyanide has made nothing but mediocre (mostly downright terrible) games since the studio's inception in 2000 (Game of Thrones: Genesis being one of them). If you're trying to make it as a game developer, it doesn't seem like the best business model to create half-baked games based on something millions love. It didn't work out for Bright Light, at least.
@destructyo i agree that GoT:Genesis was awful and that license games shouldnt ride only by their names, but im kind of optimistic cause i'd love to play a GoT (or Song of fire and ice based) rpg
now that I think about it, you could probably have some game mode where you defend the wall from wildlings or the white walkers (wave 1, wave 2, etc).
I want to play the part where the queen and his twin brothers have sex and then they throw a 10 years old boy from the top of the tower. Probably will be like a active event in God of War. Triangle, square, triangle, circle, x,x,x,x. Or something like this.
Cyanide acquired the rights before it was announced there was going to be an HBO series. So it was back when A Song of Fire and Ice was just a series of novels and a lot less people had even heard of it.
Well, the graphics aren't particularly amazing... but it was in development actually a while before the show, and my gf decided pre-ordering it would be a good gift for a guy who LOVES ASOIAF, so guess I"ll at least have to give it a shot. I'm gonna hope a good story carries it past the dated graphics and the worrying cries of "hack n' slash". If not, well, I'll still love her for the thought.
@TheRandomuser12345 That'd be the dream company to do GOT justice, but I'd expect they wouldn't like another story pushed on them. Bethesda strike me as a company who like to have complete creative control. But totally agree man, if anyone could do an amazing job of a GOT rpg, it'd be the creators of Elder Scrolls. Imagine that. Gives me goose pimples.
Sorry but this just isnt good enough for Game of Thrones, first they try some RTS type game, and now its some half-assed RPG. If you want people to buy Game of Thrones, hire developers who will do it justice.
@ninjaguy1995 Fuck. No. I will not have Bioware ruining my favorite series. Bethesda is better than Bioware but I don't think the Gamebryo engine would be good for this game. Maybe Obsidian...
@SBmasta441 well I can understand why u would say that. bethesda does make some great games. The reason I say Bioware would do well is because they have made some of my favourite games mostly because they immerse the player very well into the story.
@ninjaguy1995 Bioware has made some very good games in the past, but recently they've been releasing shit like Dragon Age 2 and SWTOR, so I really don't think they would take AGOT in a good direction.
@SBmasta441 DA2 wasnt that great, but many people are enjoying SWTOR and its recieved universal praise. Opinions are opinions. I would also choose CD Projekt though, it seems more suited for them. So long as they actually release it on PS3 -_-. Still waiting on The Witcher.
Kinda hope ASOIAF doesn't end up like the Star Trek games are like. Mediocre nerd bait. That being said I'll most likely be one of those nerds buying it.
Honestly this will most likely hurt the franchise. Only a handful of games based off of books and shows do well. This reminds me of when they began putting out the Harry Potter games which really never wowed anyone and quickly grew boring.
This license was actually offered to Bioware and Bethesda both already. Both turned it down to create their own games, with regret of course. It looks dated and all, but it's got some novel charm. I'm willing to at least try it out.
@evilyig I would have bet my money on Bioware. The approach of this game is similar to their Dragon Age games: characters you play are part of the same world as the other key characters. Bioware would have the ability to build on the strength of existing lore like what they did with Baldur's Gate. I do worry about how this GoT game could possibly go wrong. :( It might end up being a hack and slash with no consequence trail.
Normally, I'd probably go with everyone else here and say that this game is gonna be crap. It doesn't look too amazing...
But seeing as how Atlus is involved in someway, I have hope. I know Atlus has put out some weird games but they aren't all that bad.
If Atlus is co-developer, then rejoice! There is hope and the game can make a huge turn around. If they are publisher, then rejoice still! Publishers do get something of a say on a game they are releasing so they can still alter the direction.
@SliderBlackrose You realize that this game is being developed by a company with a reputation for making REALLY BAD licensed games? Martin should have done his homework before tossing out permission to use his license.
Cyanide Studios, who made the simply atrocious RTS..
Yeah, I'm going to pass on this, sorry. Normally, you get all of my money, Atlus, but today, you get none of it. The graphics are going to be terrible, the gameplay should be a mixture of Witcher 2 Choices and Consequences and Dark Souls styled gameplay, but above all. The one thing I wanted most.
Was to create a fucking character in this vast and interesting universe. With the premades, this reminds me -too- much of Cursed Crusade.

Well, we'll see. Maybe it won't be as bad as the last slasher Atlus promoted... *ekhem* Cursed Crusade *ekhem*
@pogodoodporny Yes, i totally agree those were my first thoughts. Atlus is really pushing the (RPG) genre label so we will see i dont think it will be another cursed crusade, i am hoping for a mix between Dark Souls and Skyrim or witcher( i want to play these badly but have no 360 or gaming pc )
@pogodoodporny baah, that would suck. point and click battle is so boring and pointless..hopefully the hack and slash is like in skyrim..although i guess that's not possible, it being a 3rd person game and all..
