  • i love the way these things sound. reminds me of being in 3rd grade & being morbidly scared of these freakin things.

  • dang they should of did the siren for the storm i am a student of dwyer middle school and i was freaking out we all had to duck and cover under our desks and i was like practically screaming haha my friend was crying and it was just freaky!

  • I agree with you. We were in Tornado Warning, the sirens should have sounded. I have been trying to get answers as to why they did not.

  • the state should use the sirens for tornadoes

  • Yeah no kidding. That siren should have sounded January 19th 2010. Southern CA, had tornado warnings and flash flooding that day.

  • Hit the Decks. Incomming!!!!!

  • in oklahoma our tornado siren's are tested every saturday at noon. it kind of like a late alarm clock

  • frieking sound!!!!!! i heard once....

  • that's THE SOUND OF JUDGEMENT,I LOVE IT,VERY BAD TIMES FOR BABYLON

  • dang now thats a scary sound

  • yes it is

  • i liked in HB for 12 years and never heard this one time. totaly nurr.

  • I remember these things going off when I was in school at Sowers in HB. Now that I'm in Texas, they're much more scary (tornadoes).

  • It's interesting you would make this comment today. We were in Tornado warning from 12:45-1:45pm there was a touchdown in Sunset Beach just a few miles from here. Search Tornado Sunset Beach, you will find the video, it flipped and SUV and took off a roof... Small but rare for this area. I have not seen violent weather in CA for years.

  • There is also some boat damage in Huntington Harbor.

  • did they sound these there today during the storm? I heard Michele Gile doing a report and she said there was "some sort of siren, an alarm going off" and i thought i heard these in the background.

  • good to know they are working well... I work at El Segundo, across the street from Dockweiler beach... and we have a similar siren to this. We test it about twice in one month due to condensation ruining the old ones.....

  • :o when the siren went off for a tester on the friday before the 4th of july i was at home and i heard it and i was like mom whats that noise? and she said it was for tsunami and i was like freaking out thinking there was gona be one! haha i didnt know it was a drill

  • We actually just had sirens installed here on the East Coast in North East area. They will be used for Tsunami/Tornado-Severe Weather alerts or Terrorist attack! They will sound for the first time October 23, 2009!

  • That's weird that it's spinning clockwise. Normally these sirens go counter-clockwise.

  • Good eye ;-) Several of our sirens rotate clockwise and the rest counter-clockwise. Either way they definitely do what they are designed to do... If you want to see funny comments look at the ones here... Proof most Californians have no clue what to do in an emergency...

  • Nice. Do you know when they are tested?

  • Every 1st friday of the month

  • are you sure because i went to newport beach today and they had a siren on the beach and 1 more thing why cant they have them on the beach?

  • Uh yeah, I am sure... The siren from my page is not Newport Beach, it's Huntington Beach. Newport has a different siren system. I suppose they could have them on the beach, there are several close to the beach. Where is the Newport Siren you are referring too? What type of sirens did they install?

  • Thunderbolts 1004's 3 T-135's 2 2001's a 1003 2 1000's and a H.O.R Siren[Thunderbolt is on the beach][1000]

  • Comment removed

  • Is it on the beach?

  • The sirens are not on the beach. There are 9 sirens throughout our city. Yes, you can hear them very well on the beach.

  • Thanks for the heads up, im going to the city website to register right now.

  • I live off of Beach and Talbert....one just went off at 12 noon on 8/7/2009...i looked online to see what the hell this lame air raid warning is and found this. it sounds off about twice a month and when the real thing hits, i'm sure that we'll be conditioned to close the window and turn the tv up louder.

  • i just heard it too and didnt know wtf was going on. i thought it was a tsunami or something

  • HB has had a siren system for many years, and they always test at the same day and time each month. If there was an actual emergency the sirens would still be sounding.

  • well i guess that day is the 7th of each month at noon....i am used to it now....it's the crying wolf syndrome....im scared when the real one comes....ill just laugh

  • I live less than a mile from your location. Its funny you should post this today. I was at the nature center making another recording. If this was real you would not want to turn up your TV too loud, as there would be the alert tone on there as well as the Huntington Beach Alert system, you should go to the HB website to register. The sirens are only test 1st Friday of the month at noon.

  • I work at KOCE on the GW campus. I used to have a job titled Master Control Operator. I was in charge of on air operations, everything going live to air, including Emergency Broadcast Alert System alerts. We are required to test twice a week. I was working on a Saturday evening about 3 years ago when an actual Tsunami Alert was posted. Altough we had test...the actual Tsunami Alert didn't go on air. We've fixed that since, but I'm just wishing more people were aware of this.

  • We should have 2012 sirens around the world. They go off only when a huge D class asteroid comes to earth or when yellowstone is about erupt.

  • Not sure that I would want a warning for that... What to do... lol

  • looks like a ACA P-128 or something similar

  • Excellent vid!!! Do they do the attack signal only or the alert too? Wish they did attack here.

  • Thanks. Yeah only attack mode. In the city we have 5 T-128's and 2 2001-130's, It's basically an outdoor warning system, you can hear them really well outside in most of the city.

  • We have in Brownsville, Tennessee in our siren system 2 new 2001-130's, 1 old 3t22, 1 EOWS-612, and 4 Whelen 4004's total sirens in our siren system 8 they went off for their monthly test at 12 noon today for 3 minutes every first Saturday of the month every month.

  • EHS 4 life Edison CHARGERS

  • im always at school when that thing goes off

  • I saw this siren when i went. Great video. 5/5

  • IS this at a Beach

  • that was out side of my school lol

  • Excellent video! Yes this siren does beat my STORAlert 1004..it's WAY louder!

  • BTW, where is THIS siren at?

  • Fire Station 5-Lake

    530 Lake Street

    Huntington Beach, CA 92648

  • I had no idea CA has sirens left for anything! I am now going to make a special trip so I can hear them myself. I want one!

  • I know Newport Beach was looking into a warning system about 2 years ago, don't know if they ever did anything... There is a multiple city Whelen warning system in south OC along the coast in the vicinity of San Onofre Nuclear power station. You could find many sirens in San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano, etc.

  • is there a little helicopter by 0:30 ??

  • Yes, that is HB1 the police helicopter unit.

  • TF sounds to me like you need to go to a HB city council meeting to have your voice heard!

  • So WTF are we supposed to actually do if this is for real. I heard it today and told the guys it was the Tsunami siren and they asked "what are we supposed to do"...I replied "uhhhhh...I dunno" That's no good! Shouldn't the city of HB issue let the community know about these warnings for the community??!!! When I moved here I should have gotten a letter saying "Now that you are here in HB there are a few things you should know about your new city"....and this siren and what to do should be 1

  • INFO: The city of HB website has detailed info/instructions on the Tsunami Warning system. It also has a map of areas that need to be evacuated in the event of Tsunami warning.

  • Thanks for posting. I just heard it and its raining. I used to live in the midwest for little while and started having flashbacks. I'm thinking , you're kidding me right. A tornado in H.B. Hell no!

  • Well a tornado is possible the weather has changed so much in CA... and yeah it was much louder today... I think due to the cloud cover!

  • Ya, especially with what happened last year in perris. That still tripped me out. Not as windy as it was last night though, but hell, we need the rain. Plus when it clears out it's nice to see the mountains through a clear sky, even if just for a day.

  • This one is scariest than the San Francisco´s...

  • San Francisco would have been much better off installing these instead of those stupid ATI's that nobody can hear.

  • I never hear the sirens, not even on the first fridays of everymonth

  • I am close 5 points, I can hear more than one. They are located at all the fire stations except Edwards/Ellis. They are considered an "outdoor" warning system. They work in conjuction with the system on tv/radio warning. Time Warner cable puts a message on the screen while they are sounding. They only sound for one minute, if it were a real emergency they would continue to sound.

  • that would be a scary thing

to hear if you were on a beach.

  • yueah sound still scares me

  • Also, it's weird to see this rotating clockwise.

  • I had to take another look at your video :) your right it is different. I am going to go back a week from Friday to see if it reverses directions each time. Now that you mention it... I have seen other sirens in the city turn counter clockwise. You are very observant!

  • looking at the ASC website HB should have chosen the T-135's... now I need to buy a "weather radio" we can not hear the T-128's in our bedroom while sleeping. From what I understand the weather radio will sound at the same time of the sirens? As they receive the same DTMF/FSK signals as the sirens?

  • If the National Weather Service issues a tsunami warning for your area, and weather radio is set to the correct FIPS codes (Federal Informational Processing System), it should sound for Tsunamis and other emergencies. If you need more info, feel free to PM me.

  • Cool video! I also have a T-128 sounding attack.

  • T-128 sirens will be T-128 Sirens whether they are used for Twisters in Kansas, Oklahoma, Iowa, Texas, or Nebreska or a Tsnaumni in California.

  • That T-128 sounds great in attack mode. They are pretty decent sirens. At least A LOT better then 2001-130s which is what my city has now. :(

  • Love the sounds but more importantly... the T-128 and 2001-130 can operate even if the city power has been disrupted... Something that is very common in any situation you would utilize them.

  • what happens if an earthquake knocks down the poor sirens? Califonia is Earthquake Alley, as well as Tsnaumi Alley.

  • Well, if it's an Earthquake we actually feel which would be required for the sirens to be knocked down... We do not need a Siren to warn us... we already know the possibilities!

  • I'm glad to see that Huntington Beach went with the T-128's vs the 2001's.
