his form now is still somewhat unconventional. I saw im jump in beijing for the olympics... he is practially right next to the bar at takeoff. he is pretty much all vertical and probably would just need like a 5 step appraoch. its unbelieveable and risky, but somehow it works for him
it was interesting watching this video... b/c i was there(im the one on the phone in this video haha)! his first attempt at 7' he almost scissor cut it and thats when he really began to jump! it was amazing being there and competing against a soon to be world class athlete
awesome, here in oz, the record for 14 year olds is 2.10m by Mark Sills of Queensland. I don't know what happened to him, but if he'd kept going in high jump he woulda been a star.
He has a great jumping abilty, but his running technique sucks. You see that he's a baller and no track athlete but in high jump the run up is not as important as in long jump so it shouldn't affect him much.
There isn't a great deal a good jumper can consciously do once he has taken off besides holding the knee-drive etc.
You're correct in saying that the skill of a jump is in the jump itself, I suppose. But the fact that the time spent in the air is nothing compared to the time spent during the run-up, it would be pretty ignorant or just fucking stupid to say that the run isn't an integral element of a good jump.
yes it would be "pretty ignorant or just fucking stupid to say that the run isn't an integral element of a good jump.". All i said that i believe that the most important factor in the jump, would be the jump itself. nevertheless the final 3 strides do greatly effect the jump itself. however, those final three strides are part of that.
Learn what i said before you attempt to troll, dear.
Itz all about the approach people. What you do on the ground plays a major role in high jumping. The lean, The Knee Drive etc etc. Flop is also important 2..almost forgot lol

Highjump is 2 things. 1) the jumping itself and 2)its a mental game.

you're a dumb cunt. the run up in high jump is like 95% of the skill of a jump.
this kid only jumps that high cos he maintains his speed and has more spring than a fucking springy thing.
ringojoejoe 4 years ago
i wouldn't say its 95% or the skill of a jump. i would say the majority of the skill of a jump would be jumping.

Well you're still wrong, so shut the fuck up.

the most important thing is the run-up.. simple as that.
learntoplayy 2 years ago
@learntoplayy yup, you don't even need to jump if you have a good run up, you just run at the bar and BOOM you're in the air
