@mrcoltonater She was issac's (the main character) girlfriend that was influence to go and work on the ship (the Ishimura) that he is on in this episode, but after the first "marker" shows up, things go to hell, and nicole leaves a video of herself, before she commits suicide, but Issac, just "to make sure' went with crew of people to go check it out, but a lot of stuff happens, and then when he finally gets back, they throw him to the beginning of this game.

the ALT fire on it is definitely useless unless ur really good at timing

Well, from what the audio logs in this game tells you, everything that was still "alive" on the Ishimura went SPLAT when the marker stopped broadcasting the first time... The way I see it, the necromorphs are not really alive at all, just reanimated flesh kept moving by the energy field the marker throws out, meat puppets basically.
