This is truly an amazing place to visit or live. I lived in Michigan my whole life and in 2011 I moved to Santa Barbara for 3 months and was shocked it was like I was living in some kinda dream. I'm back in Michigan and not a day goes by that I think and miss SB =/

@mikejones3rfs i'll admit that California isn't filled with the smartest of people. but we have the most creative, cultured people. i couldn't say the same of anywhere in the east coast. And something else, most of us here are more laid back...and less angered, like yourself and many many people over there.

alright first off, i really liked this video. i grew up in SB since i was 4, and man i gotta tell you, i really can't imagine myself anywhere else. when i go to see my family in san francisco or something, it depresses me. SB is a great town and i'm truly lucky to have grown up here. but one thing you mentioned was dead wrong. "teenagers have nothing to do..." or something like that. i'm 18 and dude there's plenty to do. surf, hike, skateboard, eat, smoke, chill, its all great here. GO DONS!

My last vacation was 20 years ago. I went to Santa Barbara, California and felt I was in heaven. Because the economy is so bad I doubt I will be ever be able to go back. I am so glad I went there when I could.

well it depends. If you want to live in the good area of Santa Barbara, Montecito, then yes, it is very expensive. It's actually one of the most expensive and wealthiest communities in the US. Many celebs live there. Apart from Montecito, I'd say Santa Barbara is still pretty expensive anyway. I'd go to LA instead if I were you, look at the Manhattan Beach / Hermosa Beach area, that is awesome. Vibrant, fun, close to the city and also right by the beach. I had a blast when I visited
If you seem a little different, have an Irish name and accent, or are old or handicapped, they will treat you like a dog in this city. I would definitely go somewhere else.
You didnt mention the old fig tree where the homeless gather to wait for a van ride to the plasma center. Or the pier, and the walk way where the homeless are everywere. Just an observation
I was born in Santa Barbara, 1970. Too young to have it all absorbed, we moved in '72. But I lived there from 1989-1995 and in two of those years I was a major drug dealer who never got busted. While those years are far behind, I long to relocate back to that sacred haven but it's too costly - way too costly. The closest Wal-Mart is in Oxnard, but only temporarily; Ventura will finally have its own! I've stayed awake few nights recanting the city's majesty, including how much I miss it.

I was a foreign exchange student in gering, Ne, in 2005/2006, and I´m going to visit my hostfamily in Nebraska next january(2010) and from there we´re going to colorado and NYC and then I wanna go to California, they can´t come with me so I´m going by myself.

Woww, you really made good points about SB where I used to live for 2 years as an international student. Elsie's and Reds...my favorite places too! @mechanamer I have been living in santa barbara for 4 years now... everyone does not smoke weed, do not listen to people on youtube... sure many people do smoke it, but you almost never see anyone do it, specially not in public..
there are some hippies here, but its mostly surfers and rich people living in santa barbara, a lot of young people aswell... its my favorite city of all time, 320 days of sun every year!!!

I prefer Florida over California.
California has hills and mountains...it reminds of hillbillies when I see them.
Also I prefer a tropical climate....Florida is just more beautiful even the palm trees look better...as well as the beaches.

well it depends. If you want to live in the good area of Santa Barbara, Montecito, then yes, it is very expensive. It's actually one of the most expensive and wealthiest communities in the US. Many celebs live there. Apart from Montecito, I'd say Santa Barbara is still pretty expensive anyway. I'd go to LA instead if I were you, look at the Manhattan Beach / Hermosa Beach area, that is awesome. Vibrant, fun, close to the city and also right by the beach. I had a blast when I visited

I was born in Santa Barbara, 1970. Too young to have it all absorbed, we moved in '72. But I lived there from 1989-1995 and in two of those years I was a major drug dealer who never got busted. While those years are far behind, I long to relocate back to that sacred haven but it's too costly - way too costly. The closest Wal-Mart is in Oxnard, but only temporarily; Ventura will finally have its own! I've stayed awake few nights recanting the city's majesty, including how much I miss it.

I wanna go to san francisco and LA, but I would love to meet santa barbara and spend couple days there because I´m not used to be in real big cities, so I like a smaller one like Santa Barbara, it is much better to rent a car and meet some cool places.

this is another wonderful video about santa barbara. it must be nice, and lots of things to do. since we are seeking a place to start over, we've decided to begin somewhere in the santa barbara area. a friend of mine is already there. he says the parks and churches provide for new families. i will probably work at one of the coffee shops or restaurants you see in the video !
