I know you used a cheat to get tons of credits but did you also use a cheat to be able to build that many units?
I remember one of the things that made the original more difficult was that you could only have a limited number of units in the field and it simply wouldn't build more. Probably that was because of limitations of the original hardware but still, limiting the number of units would make the gameplay match the original better...
@jacgoudsmit the limit of this game is 300 units in the game. So this is no cheat, but the actual limit in this remake is higher than the original. Bringing in a limitation is certainly a good thing for gameplay, ie, look at starcraft 2 :)
I love the new lighting effects when a building or vehicle explodes. Will this indicate the range of some sort of splash damage for units that stand too close to exploding buildings/vehicles/units?
@truelazerlight true. But keep in mind that I used a cheat in that video to get a ton of resources. I agree though that the difficulty should be increased.
oh well, live and learn right? All I can say is, if you want to code something like that, you have to digg for the information and learn some programming. It will take a while though.
I've been playing the version you have out for the past few days as much as I can. I used to play Dune II when I was little... and this is so much fun.
The only thing I could wish for is the ability to pause a game (had to take a bathroom break during one of the missions and got rushed), as well as any type of multi player, like LAN
Yeah, that would be really cool, to play it on LAN/internet.
I agree a pause mode or the options mode would be helpful, but don't count on any changes in the near future. I am simply lacking time (and motivation). There are too many other things that require my attention :)
Not many people can spend time doing this sort of things. But I wonder if there is a slight possibility that Dune Series could be remade - and I'm not talking about the later sequels made by Westwood/EA - those were disappointments. The keys in my view, next to good multiplayer, are better AI and more creative weapons. Dune II I think did have better AI.
You're right, it takes a lot of time just to write this game. And it is not even finished. Would be cool if EA would pick this up some day. Although i would prefer the former Westwood team to pick this up (Petroglyph now)
Ofcourse i did not do the graphics. I got some help (a lot of help) from pixel artists who helped me improve the original dune 2 graphics so i could use that in the game.
The explenation for that is, the original Dune II cheats with power supply. Therefor the enemy cannot fire anything (rocket turrets are disabled when on low power). D2TM does not use cheats for the enemy, hence they cannot fire.
For playability i've to cheat for the CPU i'm afraid.
makes sense. Anyway, kudos on the whole project, been following it for over a year now and am a big fan of it and the original (you've probably that before). Keep up the good work! Oh, and go Holland!
Forgive me if this has been asked before.

@GasSnake2003 It was being implemented so it looked cool ;) But indicating splash damage is not a bad idea imo :)

with the game so much easier to handel the game has to be much more difficult, or else it will be a cakewalk. Even the original was a bit too easy.

So much better than Dune 2000, coz U can feel the old charme. Thanks a lot!

Dune II was already remade, but they kind of stuffed it up.
Not that the remake was a bad game, but it had a rather different style to the original.
jobrook911 2 years ago
@jobrook911 You're probably refering to dune 2000?
true. It was for many just a Redalert using a Dune tileset.
There are more initiatives to make the old dune 2 relive, in a bit modern UI.

dune 2 is a classic game!!! just could never do level 9 with the rubbish ordos, this remake is utter carnage!!! love it

it is unfortunate that it is still a demo, but then again it is quite playable as you can see.
Glad you like it.

I would love to bring out a new version some day. But don't count on it very soon though. But some day, there will be a new version.

It's better than a MOD?!
weirdoweirdo 3 years ago
The engine is written from scratch, so it basically just uses enhanced dune 2 graphics. But theoretically you could put different gfx in it.

Dune II itself was already remade as Dune 2000 though. By Westwood.

true. Although many consider Dune 2000 as Red Alert using dune graphics. It would be cool I think if they remade Dune II just for the fun of it. :)
