The languages are first of all Japanese, since most of the song was changed from it's original form to be used as a battle song. The other words are made up words that are derived from Ranka's memories. I won't go into depth because that would be spoiling it.
I always thought that transforming robots are lame... And they are moderately lame in Macross Frontier too... Still, the show became my favorite anime, since it has an inimitable atmosphere, with really great characters, MUSIC... Its just fantastic!
Jeezis! This makes me wonder what bubblegummy, escapist crap you USED to think was cool before watching Macross Frontier. For me, Macross "F" just part of the stupidification of franchises like Transformers, Bubblegum Crisis, the Star Wars prequels, etc. And even Transformers wasn't much more than a thirty-minute toy advertisement, although I'd argue there's something intelligent somewhere near the core, since the writers were given free reign with little adult supervision. @Over: great-- in the same way you're proclaiming this. It makes me honestly wonder, then, what I must be missing about it. The overuse of CG just pushes it into sub-videogame category, the one-guy-getting-sweated-by-two-chicks-of-different-types thing reminds me of MegaTokyo (bad webcomic). Maybe it's that the show's creator usually goes out of his way to create some kind of plausible world-in-space? I mean, that's why I kind of let Macross Plus' bad tying up of loose ends slide.
What language is it? It's japanese and what? It kinda sounds like Russian... Anyways, Macross Frontier is one of the best animes I've ever seen. I'm searching the internet for the movies, and I wont give up before I've found them because I know that when I find them and watch them it'll be wort all the time I used finding them.
The anime is fantastic, and the music is one of the best parts. It is better than your run-of-the-mill mecha anime. It reminded me of Eureka seveN. The show has a lot of focus on character development, but the action scenes are pretty good too (especially if you're watching in high def).
@gfskill i agree 100%. i saw all the robots and at first i thought "oh no, im not going to like this at all" but as soon as little Ranka started to sing, i was hooked!

For some reason I couldn't get into Macross 7, but I appreciated all the references to it (and other Macrosses) in Frontier.
