  • How old is this song?

  • love the animation :)

  • Cool! :)

  • I'm a girl, and I'm gonna be an electrical engineer :) (if i survive this college ;) )

  • Wow i am studying civil engineering is that mean that i am going to have to choose between motherhood and career .. i will die if that happened to me

  • Listening to this song makes me grateful for birth control, and the choice to not have children. I'm glad I have this choice. I can choose for myself what I'll do with this one life.

  • Dear Ken Wong, I have loved this song for over thirty years. I have taught it to my sisters,my girlfriends, my nieces and, perhaps more importantly, my nephews. Your animation will make my explaination ever so much easier, and will help me teach the importance of feminism to kids that I hope will grow up in a truly equal world. Whether the little twerps like it or not.

  • Arguably the best protest song ever written. This animation enhances it and thanks for that! You can't win listeners over by disrespecting or hating them, but you can with wit and humor. The speaker in the song makes clear that she even loves men when they are respectful.

Peggy explained to us when I saw her sing this years ago that an engineer in England (where this is set) is more like a skilled worker than a designer, as in America. Note song reference to "turret lathe".

  • See if you can find her "you men out there" (poem/prose/monologue)

  • Very good music, singing, words, animation, and everyone of these is well composed with the other ones. That makes this video great, and gives greater impact strength for the essence of it. I like it :)

  • One of my first thoughts when I saw this video was that it's part of some official campaign to persuade girls to become engineers - at least here in Poland we had some advertising like that by tech universities. Now I see that it probably isn't like that ;) but indeed i think i have never seen such a good advertisment video for girls/women to go to technical universities - it certainly could aid any such campaign, and even if not so, it's good to have it here on youtube, where so many can see it

  • @MartinMusic1 Thanks for your comment. Yeah, I guess it could be a great ad for women and tech schools! Who knows - Maybe that'll be a byproduct of the vid! Thanks for the liking the video!

  • Dear Ken Wong,

I love this animation, and I am incredibly impressed with the quality and the way you exemplified the message in images. I was wondering if I could use this video in a history project for school. I would attribute all of the animation to you.

    Thank you!

  • Thank you so much for this Ken. This is one of my all time favorite songs. I showed this to my daughters and used it to describe the major points of feminism and how not too long ago, things were much different for women. Thanks for keeping your submissions "G rated" and full of substance and fun. I'm a teacher, and I'm considering requiring this song as an assignment for analysis during Women's History Month. I happened upon your brilliant animation, and I will be telling them to watch this.

  • @erictheelephant @erictheelephant I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Peggy's song comes across as so lighthearted but at it's core is a deep and resonant message. I made a conscious effort to keep the characters as lighthearted but also try to show the songs intended message...I'm happy you like it.

  • I too have always appreciated this song, ever since hearing it on an American Folkways podcast. Ken, your animations are excellent. Your respect for Peggy Seeger and this song's message are abundantly evident.

  • @AshramBliss Thanks! It's a great song and charming as heck! Thanks for your comment!
