I did similar swim with my Defender and it got out,but on the tarmak it stopped-the fuel tank was full of water ,which came in throug the cap of the filling spout :(

@mangomonkey278 They do, If im not mistaking there was a few that came with diesels, very very few. its alot more popular today with samurais and diesels, if you see one in a samurai now, its most likely a conversion.
