I can't believe that I was too young to hear this for myself........thankfully Damon went on to Gorillaz or I'd have never traced back to this masterpiece
@almightyseancore it was hilarious when they went on TOTP with this song, Damon was so stoned he looked Chinese and he had this cut out chicken on a stick and was waving it around and sang away from the microphone, a total mockery of playback.

It has been all but disowned by the band, who claim it was written in less than fifteen minutes in response to record company demands for another bankable single. It is almost never played live. That's what it say's on Wikipedia anyway
i can see why it didnt really take off for them at this point. With hindsight you an view it as a burgeoning great band finding their feet, but hearing this in 1991 i can imagine they sounded like baggy also rans. I quite like it, and woul dance were it on in a club but there was a stack of stuff around like this at this time. That said the drums are god on it and Graham is an AXE HERO! wether he likes it or not.
Yes, it you heard this song for the first time and had no idea who'd made it then you probably wouldn't say Blur (although having said that I might recognise Damon Albarn's voice).
I like her, she's not glamorous and stupid and she was the frontwoman of one of outstanding British bands of 90's. I think, he's good taste in women. still, I'm jealous...
When this album came out, I listened to it constantly. Amazing how good all the songs were. Still sounds great now. I really should get the CD....I miss the 90s, sigh.
ok I just heard this song for the first time & I like it...but I thought it reminded me of another song...& it does!!! Think of the drum beat & the guitar riff & it sounds like Robbie Williams "Let Me Entertain You"...take a listen & see...
& when blur returned they wern't has pouplar as suede blur probably blame bang for this as there's no other way was a sucsess & bang wasn't damon probably feels that if they realesed another single suede wouldn't be as pouplar as they were if the other single charted well damon canot stand suede's guttarist bernard butler bernard said this was one of the worst single's ever made & blur has hated it ever since
Interesting points though Blur released Popscene in the summer of 1992, which did bugger all and i love that song. Pretty sure Popscene was not included on their greatest hits album.
popsscene was a great single it made the britpop era i don't no y blur never put it on their greatest hits album as it made the genre that made them famous it probably bothered them cause it never charted well it only reached no#32 in the uk charts damon was disapointed at the failure of sucsess it had they exepeted it to be great
I was at one of the all the singles gigs back in 1999. Before they played this song Damon said. 2It says all the singles on the poster. so we have to play the crap ones. This is called bang. Suffer it". I think it's a great song. Far better than crazy beat.
google bang then look for the wikipedia information is there & in a interview i saw on tv a few years back damon said his least fav blur song was bang reason's were probably cuz the song was writting in under 15 mins it's didn't chart well it only reached no#22 in the uk charts & due the failure of chart sucsess blur had 2 do the rollercoaster tour around the u.s due 2 70.000£ in dept during this time rival band suede were getting massive sucsess in the uk damon was not happy about this
On the contrary to Bernard Butler's comments, isn't that kind of what Suede is? Just kinda another year passing through my ears in music. Nothing special.
Graham Coxon hit back at Butler's comments and about how Suede always dissed them. He claimed Bernard sat on his doorstep pestering Graham to take them on tour. Apparently Suede longed to be Blur's support. The rivalry was big. A lot of it was due to Justine Frischmann: Brett Anderson's girlfriend, then Damon Albarn's (there was some overlap too). Most of the songs on Suede's first album are about Damon and Justine. She was also why Oasis/Blur later fell out. Liam Gallagher fancied her like mad.
ashbash. I know every song on the album very well.I also saw Damon Albarn say in an interview: "There's no doubt most of the songs on Suede's first album are about me and Justine.I was around in the early days, when Justine was still in the band and it was very embarrasing to go to gigs". The most obvious lyrics about Damon Albarn are in the song "Animal Lover" - a word for word account of Brett/Justine's breakup, and Damon and her getting together.I seem to know a lot more about this than u do.
F A C T S : Justine Frischmann can be seen sitting at the table in the flat throughout this video - clear shot at 3.20. Bernard Butler, guitarist in arch-rivals 'Suede', described the line in this song 'Bang goes another year in and out of one ear' as the worst line ever written in the history of music. The shot of Blur on London's Oxford Street in the video were filmed near the 'Syndrome' club where Blur and others regularly played. 'Sydrome' was where the origins of Britpop started in 1991/92.
I love you Graham.
