This weapon is "non lethal" in most cases but that does not mean it is not harmful. This machine uses microwaves to heat the water in your skin and I think most people can understand the implications of that and the potential for abuse. When an officer fires a live round into a crowd, there's at least some degree of accountability. You have to think real hard before you decide to shoot at some protesters. But crowd control devices such as this simply limit the accountability of the police, and carry a high potential for abuse.

And it will not help reduce the number of civilian deaths. When everyone is running away madly, it will not help our soldiers distinguish between insurgents and civilians. It will only cause more chaos.
Rather than having clear targets (people standing and shooting at them), our soldiers will have to choose targets from a throng of fleeing people, none of whom are wearing uniforms and many of whom have their backs turned.
Just like with the tasers, this is going to be abused like crazy. I think someone earlier in the thread hit on why: the psychological restraint is not there to using a "harmless" weapon. So using it will be viewed as no big deal.

In 1939 Germany started a war for the last time. One reason the government spread since 1933 was, that the Germans need more space, "Volk ohne Raum", was the slogan. A non-lethal allows law enforcement to harm people without causing bruises and wounds. This means cops have the ability to harm people w/o proof, unless videotaped, etc. Just look how trigger-happy cops with their new Taser toys. Non-lethals = an overly-aggressive police and military force.
As for my last sentence, these can become efficient anti-person weapons over a large area.

And tasers definately leave marks, as do beanbag guns, batons, and fists. All are "less lethal" options than guns.

This weapon is "non lethal" in most cases but that does not mean it is not harmful. This machine uses microwaves to heat the water in your skin and I think most people can understand the implications of that and the potential for abuse. Several soldiers have hospitalized after exposure to this with second degree burns. Those incidents have been hushed and down played, who knows how many "mishaps" were covered up completely. Just listen to the doublespeak used in this promotional video.

The real question is- will a private citizen challenge authorities for the right to own their own ADS device under the 2nd amendment? And it will not help reduce the number of civilian deaths. When everyone is running away madly, it will not help our soldiers distinguish between insurgents and civilians. It will only cause more chaos.

the amercians are wimps, with there high tech gear, me mate in the british army worked with them and he rekons they were calling air strikes all the time, where the british done it the proper way using force as a last resort, the britsh army gained respect in basra, that's why their going home now. the amercians have got to clean up their mess before they are going anywhere.....

and it is completely indiscriminate therefore young children, babies and elderly people can be caught in the crossfire. and because it is 'harmless' the use of it in casual situations will increase.

In 1939 Germany started a war for the last time. One reason the government spread since 1933 was, that the Germans need more space, "Volk ohne Raum", was the slogan. Another reason was the newly definite enemies, the Jews. The government made clear that they are the reason for almost anything that goes wrong in Germany and the rest of the world and that they have to be killed before they kill us.

I'm comparing the manipulative structures of both governments. Of course the Allied Forces are not the Nazis, Bush is not Hitler, the Terrorists are not the Jews, Guantanamo is not Auschwitz. But as I said, the way people are being influenced by some of the powerful to be directed into a war or two, that only serves the powerful is similar.

Its a shame that soldiers are dying in Afghanistan + Iraq and especially the US troops with I dont know how many per day. And what for? For reasons that dont even exist given to the people. But actually for reasons we dont really know yet. I dont "attack" the Army here, its about the rich guys in control of the countries, making everybody believe that they only think of peace and happiness and the best for all.

Talking about terrorists all the time as the reason why one country after another should be invaded or liberated or fried is also painting with broad strokes. But ok, how about this: I have doubts that the informations given by the US government about their actions regarding where and why to sent troops to are partially not true. They just sound good and reasonable. This way of influencing people is similar the structures of manipulation, which where used in the 1930 and guided into WW II.

Thanks for your comment...However, the main reason why troops were sent to Iraq was the "existence" of WMD. After more and more information was gathered that this is not the case, the US government still insisted that they are there. Its a war based on lies...but who cares.
