..What a Huge talent you were Luiz!!! ..A real magician of music and guitar!! ..(the american guy singing in the clip is so ridiculous!! ..he ruined all the atmosphere..)
I think one of the reason other composer-song-writers eclipsed his success is that his songs are much more technically demanding -- they are not that easy to play -- so as years passed, they got less exposure that some of the other good songs a guitarist can pick up the 2nd time he hears it.. Bonfa's pieces take more skill & work. But they're so beautiful. He doesn't put anything in that doesn't absolutely need to be there; never over-states an expression. Love his music.
he makes all the other great Brazilian guitarists seem a little mechanical, doesn't he? It's as if several instruments were playing at the same time, a big-beat guitar, a chopin-like guitar, and nuances that evoke a world of sweetness and fantasy, which Brazil once was - I know, because I lived there then...
This video is a truly amazing find! Thanks for posting it. We really have to be thankful for the technology we have now, that allows us to share this priceless pieces of art (and history). Even ten years ago (in the year 2000!) this would have been almost impossible to find; specially in a country like Costa Rica (where I'm from). But now, thanks to youtube and to those who are kind enough to share, all we have to do is "look it up." Thanks, samix23.
Does anyone get the impression that other singers wanted Luiz to just shut up and play? He seems sort of talkative. Not that I hate him. Please don't get angry at me. It's just an impression I got.

Michael Douglas. This is from his own syndicated tv show (early -mid 70's, from Philadelphia?). He's flat in places here. He was definitely a fan of Brazilian music, though. As he comments, "I could listen to this all day." Too bad he didn't leave it there. One of my favorite pieces of music in all the world of music.
