  • His mouth.... His lips....Perfect!!!!

  • Damn, this man has beautiful bone structure and facial features and the most beautiful voice. The anthem to my adolescence.

  • just another dreamer dreaming about everyman

  • I have so many good good memories of all of the events in my life with each JB song I hear. The dude is a classic and a legend. Thank you for gracing the world with your beautiful and raw talent Mr. Browne.

  • As I read, and I think Jackson stated, that this song was written in response to CSN, (Wooden Ships), they were going away to Atlantis, and he wrote that he would stay here. Maybe I'm wrong. But it is my all time faves.

  • Outstanding! Jackson Browne has always been such a class act, both musically and as a human being.

  • Probably more pertinent now than when Jackson wrote this. Superb!

  • Nice memory rioebe34 your father had good taste.

  • Hey, does anyone know WHEN this was, like the year, thanks in advance

  • Jackson is IMHO a once in a lifetime shining light. The man has touched my life with his words and music. Has inspired me to look into my soul and evaluate, reflect, recognize I am not almighty but a player on a board of everyman

  • i have this album. yes, vinyl and love it. one of my favorites for life. if you see somewhere to go, i understand. but then again, you should have it too! there re many formats now...... but it seems so sincere here. live and all. turn and walk away if you wanna..... younger is definitely different!!!!

  • FYI, Everyman is a play - worth reading.

  • Not too much I can say that hasn't already been said about this guy......I've followed him for so many years now and everything he does is so "Giftedly Played and Voiced" by someone I'll be listening to til' I'm long gone....Awesome :)

  • ...with timbre & gaze penetrating a pain and the granite hearts of 'everyman'...

  • amazing show in london this week too........what an experience

    truly a remarkable man

  • I remember watching this on TV the first time around. Still the best version of this song, in my opinion. Just beautiful.

  • Jackson Browne and Dan Fogelberg were two of the greatest poet-musicians! Every song was beautiful and profound and full of great meaning that one could apply to one's own life! Peace, BobbyK

  • the best; hope to see you again in Barrie, Ontario>>best singer ; my idol!!!!!!

  • No "auto tune" for this fine gentleman.

  • I agree with allof the above...Jackson will be known for his words and pricelessness of the gifted singer sonwriter he is forever. I was priveliged to do 2 reviews for a Louisville, and on in birmingham al a few years ago and it brings 1974 and the first time I saw him play in KY in 74 Once you listen to his lyrics and learn a song or two..your already gone@@@I could write about this all day..thanks to all his fans too for supporting him...

  • @b74z3d good point...I don't think jackson browne is in need of auto tune. Kinda funny how superior he is next to todays manufactured "artists" isn't it?

  • Dude, Jackson got lots of love and still gets plenty. This guy is one who did it all on his own terms and rode the bus to the top of the pile. In the late 70's and 80's, he was at the top of the charts. He was then and is still my idol. Truth is, everytime I pick up my guitar and sing in public I am pretending that I am JB. Long live the man.

  • Couldn't agree more.. Jackson Browne ... timeless... love him always.. so unfortunate that he didn't get the exposure/recognition he deserves..JB ..come back .. this generation may actually appreciate you...

  • He remains an excellent songwriter, but the pieces he wrote on his first few albums in the 70's contain some of the best songs ever written in my opinion.

  • This is the era your old man grew up in For Everyman Jackson plays this song so friggin great on his acoustic guitar versus the piano

  • none equal

  • COME ON HOW CAN YOU DISLIKE THIS????

  • This is the finest live version of a song I have ever heard. Genius does describe this man well enough

  • Apart from Dylan, the finest singer-songwriter America has produced.

  • @theNifflefoot I'm not sure that you even have to qualify your comment with "apart from Dylan". JB is undeniably a better singer. As for the "songwriter", I find most of his songs--as a total lyrical-musical package-- to be better crafted than most of Dylan's. You can give Dylan credit for being a greater poet, maybe, but I think people ought to stop treating him like some kind of sacred cow (and he seems wise enough that he would probably agree).

  • @Seasass I view Dylan as a god or at least as a profit of some sorta god yet i agree with most of your statement...JB has a much better voice(though Dylan is underrated in this area). Browne is one of the greatest singer songwriters ever....Dylan is a musical genius who is always searching for a great moment in musical history . I'd like to see them play together sometime:)........

  • if i could write half as good as this then i would be a very good writer hahaha

  • All you have to do is hear him, his words, his music - this man is incredible and so very talented - I can't imagine him having one mean bone in his body... I've loved hearing Jackson since he came into his own in the early seventies - what an amazing man he is! Anyone who could bad-mouth him has a problem..

  • awww Jackson.... always so true and pure. Love him.

  • all the police records of Browne's divorce area publicly available. Browne called the cops himself, and when they investigated they found nothing wrong. She was just hysterical about divorce or something. Browne is a peace activist and thoughtful, caring soul and musician, nothing more.

  • have 2 copies of vinyl- both overplayed.....

  • have 2 copies of vinyl- both overplayed

  • Beautiful song--written as a response to CSN's "Wooden Ships". While Crosby et al. were ready to say "F--- you, world" and sail off to pursue their own personal happiness (a fitting metaphor for the rest of the '70's), JB advocated the harder road of keeping the faith in a better future that everyone could build and enjoy together. Many people eventually turned to Reagan to "lead them back to that place in the warmth of the sun." JB, to his credit, kept hoping for something better.

  • The song was written on a sailboat in San Fran harbour, that was owned by a friend of Crosby's.....

  • Nobody writes songs like Jackson Browne the man is just a down right genius when it comes to music. I been a fan of JB since since 1970 he just wrote music that was way ahead of his time I loved it then and I love it now and I think Everyman agrees

  • WOW...I was just coming by to pay tribute to the man...JACKSON BROWNE is a true human being...

its just a damn shame about all of the ignorance and intolerance in the world...but what you gonna do???

like Jackson, Lennon, Ghandi and SO MANY OTHERS...

spread light and love when and where you can....

its about the music, its about the love....

its about wearing grooves on my first LP that you could plant corn in, LMAO

  • I'm 55 years old... grew up listening to this.... I volunteer tirelessly trying to see our country finally learn to love and take care of all of her children. The election for our identity is upon us. Hook up. OFA, MoveOn, OneNation(I was lucky enough to be able to attend (incredible) It doesn't matter. Just do something!

  • Jackson Browne is the alter ego to Fixed News!

  • I would not leave him "in the light of the morning" as he sings here lol - DH is a nut with her stories back then. Late for the Sky is one of my favorite JB albums. Thanks for posting this for us.

  • Absolute masterpiece.

  • Jackson Browne has been a favorite of mine for many years. His songs touch me like no one else's.

  • Still so lovely.

  • Have loved this song since it came out in the 70s; one of his best, & he's written a lot of good songs.

  • Great performance of one of his best songs & one of my favorites. Hoping to see him when he comes to town later this year.

  • sublime, many thanks.

  • Jackson never hit his wife- even the police investigated and said he didn't. besides, Jackson seems like a very calm caring person and as never been a big druggie or anything like many other musicians. I'm sure they divorced for normal reasons like any other person

  • A great artist and poet... love his music...especially this song

  • this is an all time message and awakening song ! Perfect from past ,present and for

the future ! Real music stops from this generation.

  • A true poet and exceptional singer/songwriter. They don't make music like this anymore. I hate today's music.

  • nice

  • so much talk about what is not important. This is a beautiful song with a message for everyman!!!!!!

  • MY FAVORITE JACKSON BROWNE SONG!

  • Jackson is so cool. I have nothing but respect for this man.

  • Oh...brings back such memories...college days...Al, who introduced me to Jackson. I have never forgotten those days...or Al. R.I.P., Al. I hope you are rocking to these tunes somewhere in a better place. You left too soon.

  • Jackson, by the nature of his art, is a bit dramatic. He speaks for Everyman.

But he's not perfect and no one will ever know what happened between him and Darryl Hannah. If he did make an error in judgement, I think his fans can forgive him.

  • If you love Jackson Browne as much as I do then join my new Facebook group: "For Everyman Jackson Browne Fan Group" and unite in our enjoyment of this legend whose music transcends all time across the decades.

  • I heard a song on a tv serie and I really liked it, I'm sure it's by him but I don't know which is :\ and can't remember the lyrics... anyway this is a really good one :)

  • JB is without a doubt one of America's finest songwriters and singers. What a great talent he is.

  • i put jackson up there with bach and mozart.

  • Can you believe that this guy wrote so many amazing songs.....

  • I believe he is the poet laureate of our time along with Bob Dylan!

  • There isnt a day that goes by that i dont listen to JB, I deffinatly cant pick a favorite song but this is my favorite video of jackson on YT idk why....

  • owtang - man you are another me - all those artists and your words - would love to talk to you sometime - you put Springsteen first and I always do also. But - I also just love Jackson Browne - his songs/lyrics all of it - he is so good live and will live on and on with his words. Thanks whoever posted this for us to hear and remember our own lives and pain.

  • love him

  • Would love to have him serenade me ANYTIME

  • Talking about invoking deep emotions.....powerful

  • Pure class ,in the UK we came close to this Steve Windwood but i think JB was a litte better !

  • Be very careful; who you accused of domestic violence. Unless you were there; you have no right to judge.. Let's face it; Jackson, has been fucked over by a few women!!

I am not saying that Domestic Violenice, is o-kay..

  • I still have this album. It is still one of his best.

  • What a talent. Just cant be done any better than this.

  • "Everyone's just waiting to hear from the one who can give them the answers..and take them back to the place in warmth of the sun... where sweet childhood still dances....but who'll come along and hold out that strong ,but gentle father's hand.....Long ago I heard someone say something about Everyman,."

  • Seems like I've always been looking for some other place

    To get it together

Where with a few of my friends I could give up the race

    And maybe find something better

    But all my fine dreams

Well thought out schemes to gain the motherland

Have all eventually come down to waiting for Everyman

  • He's the best.

  • Jackson Browne speaks for generations...He still has got it all.....poise,poetry,vision,warmth,kindness and truthfulness.....gotta love his message!

  • This song means a lot to me. As I venture out of my hometown and travel to go away to school 400 miles south after 2 years at a community college.. I can picture my Father playing this song for me.. As Browne says "Make it on if your own if you think you can.. If you see some where to go... I understand"

-Tears me up. I can picture my Dad saying that to me as I venture out for a journey where I'm out on my own

  • @rloebe34 Thanks for this story. I love the picture you paint of your Dad saying these lines to you as you "ventured out". What I think is amazing is the thought of having a father who knows Jackson's music; it's so far from my own experience. Glad you posted this.

  • Beautiful melody, beautiful lyrics, beautiful story. Thanks for posting it.

  • This is what we call real music. (:

  • LOVE Jackson Browne...ever since the '70's college days. He is simply.....a beautiful poet who puts his poetry to music. Food for the soul.

  • Such a beautiful song

  • Any Jackson record from the seventies is a work of genius.

    Criminally underrated songwriter...

  • @tomh124 Agree! Well said.

  • @tomh124 With due respect, and thumbs up: Any song written by Jackson in any decade is a work for 'Everyman," and a work of genius.

Yeah, it sounds sappy, using the tilte, but I believe he thinks of us all when he writes.

    Peace.

    Rock

  • What a great song this is. Maybe his best?

  • great version of this song. thx for posting

  • "that place in the warmth of the sun where sweet childhood still dances" is a great line.

  • I sang along, it took me back. It doesn't get much better!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Favorite all time JB song since forever.

  • You have discovered " NIrvana"

  • music can't be better than this......... a voice, a guitar and powerful words......everyone of of us needs this....being myself a musician,I know what a moment like this means.......with "the pretender",for me, these are two of the best songs ever..........

  • Go Zeppelin!!

  • love it pure

  • Made in Germany......

  • Hard as shit to play nice accompanying guitar on stage while singing a complex song like this...by yourself. Wood, strings and words. That's stripped down talent.

  • accapelo!

  • masterpiece

  • Andy ..i like so many other fans know Jackson was set up by a "woman" with such intent to get a little of his money at the time..ever notice how she neve rmoved forward in her career!I lost respect for her from the beginning..D>Girl...i love Jackson and always will..never believed it for a moment as most of us J.B> fans it was so ludicrist...

  • I went to HS with his son Ethan.Met his once.Ate popcorn with nim and his son in the Dorm room...Nice man.

  • Lyrical genius!!!

  • it sure is tough to find fault in an artist who has the goal of mankind getting along with each other. Jackson Browne is a great representative for rock and roll!! You older folks make sure your children listen to and understand his message.

  • I am one of those "older folks" And me and my SOn went to his concert tonight!! AMAZING!! Still the same JB

  • The lyrics of "shape of a heart" clearly show he would sooner punch a hole in the wall than hit a woman! some women put themselves between the fist and the wall coz they need to be victims!

  • What a great song!! The rest of that crap is just that.. crap. I don't believe Jackson did anything wrong. I did not even know about DH's problems but I knew that JB could not do this to anyone.

  • Has anyone even thought that DH hit HIM? She looks like she could kick anyguys butt! It probably never even happened but I am thinking that Jackson would and could not phyically hurt DH. Bunch of tabloid shite trying to cash in on thier talents.

  • Andy, you've got it right. Corbin, you don't know the truth of the matter. I know a bunch of folks who are close to JB, who attest to DH's heroin addiction during the period in question (1994). She was a mess then. They had an ugly breakup. It's a matter of public record, that it was Jackson, not DH, who called the Santa Monica Police. Now Corbin, if YOU were beating YOUR g/f, would YOU call the cops??? Didn't think so. Jackson's the real deal.

  • jackson did not punch her. get your facts straight.

jackson browne has been a fav or mine since i was 18 and i think his early works are mastery of prose and song, like no other. the lp "late for the sky" is blows my mind. put him in the ranks of springsteen, lennon, cash, dylan, steve earle, joni mitchell, mellencamp, tom waits, leonard cohen, shane macgowan, mike scott (of the waterboys), van morrison, townes van zandt who can turn words and feelings into dark and light magic

  • @owtang Why the hell do people mention Lennon without Macca ? Makes no sense.

  • No reply, I have loved him since the age of 15. In a time when kids were into disco and all that crap, I always pay attention to lyrics. I found in his music and lyrics saved me as a frustrated young woman. Not a groopie just an appreciated fan. I have seen him at NO NUKES Hollywood Bowl, Santa Barbara Arlington Theatre, And Ventura Theatre, and, Santa Barbara Bowl - by the time I was 30. Miss those days.

  • @owtang

  • @owtang - maybe don’t even give these little people the time of day though I am glad you put the record straight. It just seems we have to put up with weasels, you know, descend down onto their crawling grounds to engage their obsessions. I suppose with the good there always has to be the ugly, they rather engage in ages old gossip as an old scold. I doubt this person has the slightest appreciation for the music his mind is stuck on the tabloids a waste of a person. Chlorinating the gene pool.

  • hes has beena major influence on me as a writer.. his stuff just blows me away... sky blue and black has got to be one of the greatest ballads of all time... and you NEVER here it on the radio.. "course its so damn commercialized these days i dont waste my time on it anyhow...

  • To the uninformed jackass who said Browne "suckered punched D.H." get the facts. Browne himself called the police. She was taking his property. She decided to accuse him. The cops left in literally 5 minutes because NOTHING HAPPENED. Read the report. She wanted to ruin his reputation with their friends, but the tabloids got ahold of it and they were both screwed. She admitted that nothing happened. But unhappily, Jackson has suffered from this slander all these years later.

  • Thanks for the info. I see so many on youtube badmouth JB like this, w/o citing any real evidence. Perhaps a price for speaking out against evil with songs like Lives In The Balance, on a planet where people have become increasingly vile and addicted to media-cartel propaganda. Thank you Jackson Browne for your beautiful music and efforts to bring awareness to the dimwitted.

  • @Zameta I totally agree, that was such a flat out lie, it is unbelevable what people will believe just because TMZ, or some other rag runs the story. You know that J B's real fan's never bought into it. Hopefully he does to.

  • @lynda4199 Oh, forgot to mention, although it's hard to choose, this is my all time fav of his songs.

  • @Zameta i had the same happen to me in a small town where everyone believed it because she was a good looking blonde....mates and all ....and it does effect you....it has me for over twenty yrs....women shouldnt be allowed to get away with it...they should be charged with slander and jailed

  • @Zameta You are right! She was a real bitch. Jack called me to bail him out of the Venice jail. His son yelled to me, while I was in the kitchen, " Come quick, the police are taking Daddy to jail." You are right, he was called a wife-beater to say the least. She was fucking JFK JR> in New York and Jack found out about it and was throwing her out. Alley cat, that she was! But they did take him to Venice Jail where I had lawyers waiting for him. He was there 10 minutes. Patty

  • @Zameta what property was she takin? i love jackson browne. i use to work with his sisters boyfriend.

  • @Zameta People forget the key to this problem between Jackson & Darryl that night. She had moved out and moved to New York to live with John Kennedy Jr. Then came back to Jackson's house to get something and he caught her trying to break in. Later she said she came back to get her sweater. Doesn't make much since. Everyone has problems sometimes but I feel sorry for the famous because it gets spread like a wild fire.

  • kermzee every man has two tickets witch one will you chose!

  • Terrific. How old was Jackson in this video? I love it; he was quite attractive back then; he is so brilliant and talented. Thanks for posting this rare footage.

  • This is a deeply reflective peice. I wish I could see myself in a truer light. One of these days with a lot of thought and focus I could become the man I want to be.

  • he is...

  • Jackson Browne has always used his musical and literary gifts to speak the virtually unspoken- the issues without tears, the injustices and inequities ignored but waiting to be addressed. To this day, his songs of decades ago remain relevant as though they were just written and sung. Even we who were born after he became THE Jackson Brown admire him and sing to his tunes with tears in our eyes. Browne is indubitably one of the greatest musicians of all time.

  • I agree. I used to play/sing this song in the back of my van. His sad songs brought me comfort when I was all spread out...and then he sucker punched Daryl Hannah...immortality!

  • I won't even defend him on that. I guess he was not perfect. I hear though that the incident was isolated although that does not exonerate him. Objectively, his music and his accomplishments and campaign for humanity's advancement far outweigh that mistake of his.

  • This was my introduction to Jackson. 19 years old and everyone in my life had moved on so it was a perfect song for the moment. I was alone but not lonely after hearing the song. I understood. I know it was written for friends who were setting sail but it applies to many other situations. Thank you, Jackson

  • Have always loved him. Brilliant writer. Thank you for this bit. :)

  • FANTASTIC

  • I love to listen to Jackson and block out the rest of the world. Deeper understanding of ones self is the key to being centered and happy. Know yourself and let the rest of life roll by.

  • love it

    somthing fine real fine

  • A master piece !!!

thanks JB for all you makes.....

see you on April, OK ?????

  • wonderful 5****..Mel

  • good grief.

  • This is an amazing preformance

  • why do such beautiful songs become targets of anger? just watched annie lennox do "why" and brad paisley do"when i get where i'm going" and others like john denver -rod stewart-cat stevens..etc. why does everyone come on here to hate? do you throw things at your tv too? do you hide in your room and yell at kids to stay off your grass? when was the last time you said " i love you" to some one? stop it!

  • I agree, How can people get angry when

listening to something as beautiful as this. I read time and time again comments that having nothing atall to do

with the music. There seems to be a lot of

anger out there and it saddens me.

  • Jackson Browne RULES! He is still going strong and debunking the myths about deteriorating with age! I think I'm in love STILL!

  • 3 SIDES TOO EVERY STORY!

  • I thank you ...Jackson Browne in whom is telling us that we are all the brotherhood.... in which we are. But we are all waiting on each other to find peace within us all to accomplish the task in which we are called, and that is peace. Yes, I am a Jew, and I wish we could all come to the knowledge of this. May we see this in 2009.

  • I wish Jackson still wrote songs as powerful as that!

  • why are you wasting your time and not just enjoying the music?

I don't understand any of you. All this vitriol, and for what purpose?

  • PeelTower: ASSHOLE!!!!!!!!!

  • PeelTower: FUCK YOU!!!!!!

  • Oh-and Europe is doing Soooooooooo well.Just as long as good Ol'Uncle Sam is there with his nukes. With out us pal you'd be a Nazi or a Commy.I beg your pardon,We are America and have a different way .Thats why we came across the Atlantic. Its you assholes that are destroying our way of life and American Liberals who let it happen.Hence forth Nov 4 ,08.Leave us free lovin Americans alone.

  • We have our own 'nukes' didn't you know? You fool. Without the Russians YOU would be nazis. They sacrificed millions upon millions in WWII, you idiot. Youv'e never known what real war is and you never will because every time you lose a few thousand, you shit your Yankee pants. Fuck off dick brain.

  • where did this argument even come from!?

the cold war is stupid, i'm surprised people are still so primitive to still think about it!

i think you should pay attention to Jackson Browne's lyrics, be free, love life as it is, and live until it's over, not destroying yourself internally, nor hurting a fellow person!

i'm English by the way, now, i'll keep out of the argument you lot have going! i just wanted to out in my thoughts

  • PeelTower, you say that you are from Tulalu? I seriously doubt that, but if you love Tulalu at all, then you should at least acknowledge your own history.

The "stupid yanks" that you refer to are the same "stupid yanks" who defended Funafuti from a brutal military invasion by the Japanese, and the same who turned the Japanese away from invading your islands in much larger force, by defeating them at Midway.

The result, ultimately, was a world in which you attained independent nationhood.

    Wtf?

  • peeltower...

    Омар Хайям LXIX:

Сей жизни караван не мешкает в пути:

Повеселившись чуть, мы прочь должны уйти.

О том, что завтра ждет товарищей, не думай,

Неси вина сюда, - уж рассвело почти.

  • Bye the way, I am only joking about Jackson's looks...I know it's obvious to those with a functioning brain but I have come to realize that there are many out there who seem deficient in that regard. Peace.

  • He was so big you idiot!

  • Jackson Brown is truly awesome.

  • I could listen to Jackson Browne 24/7 & that is no joke!!!

Happy belated 60th birthday JB U ROCK STILL!!!

  • Can anyone post Jackson Browne from Glastonbury 1994 onto this site please.

This song makes me think of Cricket!

  • i am so anti communist but i am i hope in touch with everyman jb is antiwar tell me is that wrong tell me who has consistantly sang anti war other than jb john lennon and ny

    kbp

  • well thank God he believes everyman is equal and deserves to be treated the same, otherwise where would we be!!! Two tier health system and poverty reigns supreme

  • Rubbish

  • Jackson Browne RULES! He is still going strong and debunking the myths about deteriorating with age! I think I'm in love STILL!

  • im only 15 and jackson browne iz by far my fav

  • same, im 15 and jackson is my favourite musical artist by far
