He's the 5th highest scoring Socceroo equal with Cahill on 21 goals, and the fact that most were scored against poorer opposition is well known.

So id say his perceived ratting is pretty spot on.

There's more to a goal than a fine finish. This goal had the teamwork that makes good football great - and of course it also had the aforementioned great finish from Thompson.

I would think this goal merited goal of the year because it involved more than just a cracking 35 yard shot or a brilliant piece of individual skill like a bicycle kick.
