  • What is the year for this recording?

  • @SonitiVeri This first appeared in his 1957 STEREO album "Spirituals", Capitol ST-818. I've seen used copies on eBay, and Amazon has several compilation CD's that include this selection.

  • I'm afraid that, as a kid, I rolled my eyes a few times when my parents put this on the record player...but I secretly loved it then and love it still. Changed from this creature...yeah, that's an epic line.

  • I'm 24 years old, I've always considered myself a believer in God but I finally really and truly gave my life over to the Lord last November when I was about to the end of my emotional rope. Now all these songs really hit me, especially the ones I hear Tennessee Ernie sing.

"And I'll be changed, changed from this creature, Lord, that I am." That line gives me chills. And they're good chills, the kind of calming, cooling feeling I get when I pray.
