LOL. Unfortunately for libertarians, US policy does not explain a WORLDWIDE housing bubble, or decades of growing private financial debt, of which bidding up asset prices (in this case housing) was only the final culmination. The only commonalities worldwide are the private financial institutions.

@SPQRomantic People got free USD from the fed, and invested that worldwide, particularly in emerging market. This includes real estate in those markets. Those so called "private financial institutions" got those free USD. The central banks in emerging market also kept printing their own currency to keep their valuations lower than USD. Plus, many individuals took HELLOC money against their house in the USA to invest in foreign real estates.

Look at the links between the central banks in Europe and America. Look at the major shareholders of the fed. You seem to think more government will fix this when more government will just give these people more power. There's nothing "magical" about it, it's simple & observable phenomena based on reason. Interest is the "price" of borrowing money & is dictated by supply & demand for money. Just like we don't expect govt to set prices for shoes, potato or TVs because price-controls simply DON'T WORK, many govts have tried & FAILED at it including US in 70s; same holds true for money, it's just another product in the market (1)

Just like when supply of tomatoes or potatoes increases, their prices go down & prices go up when supply goes down; same way, if central-banks & fractional-reserve-banking (pls google it) are gotten rid of then interest (price of money) will dictated by supply & demand.When people save more, there'll be more lendable money (more supply) hence interest-rates would go down & they'll go up when people are saving less & this process would prevent excess credit & bubbles (2)

Americans have the chance to vote for Ron Paul, if they are registered "Republican" voters, certainly he is not perfect, and his biggest errors are appearing on Alex Jones' video blogs, and not getting Jesse Ventura, to be his Vice-President, assuming that he actually has a chance of winning, against Barack Obama. At least America has a strong independent/libertarian voter base. In Australia, we have Tony Abbot or Julia Gillard, or the Greens. Molyneux endorsed Ron Paul, therefore I do not.
