This song is brilliant, but this performance (being the first time it was played) is very rough around the edges. Mikey's drumming, especially, during the second chorus. But the song is absolutely fantastic, and I would actually like to see an electric version of this on TbK... especially the solo being played on guitar as opposed to the melody being vocalized. We shall see. I'm rather disappointed that this cut didn't make the first EP... probably my favourite TbK-related track so far.
I'll agree with this. Song for a Son has some bitchin' guitars. Absolutely awesome stuff. The drumming is mixed extremely low, and I guess that's for the best to highlight the guitars. No one's gonna replace Jimmy.
I love SP, but got some dissapointed with the last albums, (zeitgeist and american gothic). But i have downloaded the Spirits in the sky dvd, from the SP site, and its awsome, billy is bigger than before.
Man... I grew up on the pumpkins, learned to play guitar to gish through MCIS. This new stuff is disgusting to hear. Musically, I guess some of it is somewhat interesting, but melodically and lyrically its horrible.
And lol @ "true fans". Yeah, if you don't like what your favorite band is doing its blasphemy. Give me a break with that bull. You can't blind yourself with that mantra, this stuff isn't close to what he accomplished early in his career.
I agree, the kind of music they put out on their first three albums and especially on MCIS and SD is the kind of music no band will ever replicate. The new stuff is still good in my opinion, but when you consider it next to what Billy did back in the day it just can't even compare.
Shut the fuck up you fag...you're just trying to sound like you have decent knowledge of the pumpkins discography, cause everyone has heard "Mellon Collie" at least once in their life and the other Feel Our Love and American Gothic are both new material...and by the way, figures you would know what "MTV-Soft" is...you watch Taylor Swift videos all day long while your uncle molests your asshole
billy corgan will always be my hero... smashing pumpkins are still rocking in my soul... i love the old stuff... but the new stuffs are great too! we should not give up on billy and pumpkins.. because he hasNOT! i`ll always support billy and pumpkins no matter wat

I don't even comment on this little kid drummer cause SP died in 2000. To take anything seriously now is not worth breathing about. James, Jimmy and corgan brought the unique pumpkin sound together. Without these members don't harbor the thought of continuing SP. I thought billy was good in his solo stuff. Jimmy is at his best in the complex. SP 1989-2000 RIP
I think fans should give Mike a chance. Nobody, NOBODY can emulate Jimmy and pull it off....but I hope Mike can bring his own thing into the mix and prove all the cynics wrong.
You people are harsh on Billy's new drummer Mike Byrne! I heard it from a good source that he didn't even get a chance to rehearse before this gig! He got up there a played dead cold-- And on a brand new song! You try that! Easy to shoot people down when you don't know s**t about playing drums!
Billy doesn't NEED your approval...His true fans will support his direction! he's on a NEW mission, and I can't wait to hear this new direction!
You guys must be smoking crack or something, from the looks of it this drummer is dirt nasty. The stuff he was playing at 5 mins was real good. Sure he isn't going to be as good and tasteful as jimmy chamberlin but jimmy has 26 years on him. Don't be fooled this guy is the real deal.
Well, it's hard to tell from one video, from one song where the sound quality is bad. As far as can be seen on this video, he's a good drummer, no more, no less. We can listen to Josh Freese or any of the old/new rock drummers out there (like Ilan Rubin, currently on tour with the Nine Inch Nails), and it's only after hearing Matt a bit more live and on an album that we can be sure that he's as good as the few "great ones". Of course, JC is hard to follow for any given drummer.
I went to school with Mike Bryne and played in the band with him. He and all the other drummers from our school at that time had the tendancy to be real show-stealers, so it doesn't surprise me he's trying to steal the show from Corgan every now and then.
the new song has a great beat! but man hes losing everybody first Darcy, then James, and then Melissa, now Jimmy! dam i love you billy but what do you do to your band mates.
most people who criticize Mike Byrne's drumming are just poseurs who really have no idea what they're really talking about.. they just know how to backlog thru sources that seem credible to back up their hate speech of new musicians who have every right to try their best to make a voice in this world. haters keep hating and keep amounting to a miserable nothing in your pathetic lives! lets see you do better!
give the kid a break. this is the first time (I am assuming) he has played for other people live with Billy. he was probably rather nervous. give him some time before you criticize him so heavily.
I'm sorry, I'm his age. If I was even in the same ROOM as BC I'd be peeing all over myself, but to be on the same stage with and for him would be nerve-wracking. Definitely give young Mike some slack. I'm sure Ginger and Jeff were off every now and again when they first started playing.
Thank you so much for doing this video of Skys memorial. I was one of Skys loved ones for the last 10 years and couldnt be there.Bless you for creating this opportunity for all of us who loved him. Thanks to all the bands who shared .
i think this was an appropriate song to play at this event. i didnt really like it at first but it got a lot better. the guitar leads are really catchy at the end. has a familiar feel to it.
