My Porsche GT3 is a daily driver and see's the track here and there. I cracked the block on it and the Porsche dealer didnt even call me to tell me they where replacing the engine. They just did it! When I got the call that it was fixed 2 weeks later with a new motor from Stuttgart I think I was the happiest person I knew that day / week / month :D There are few things guys get emotional about but one of them is the car. It's horible if Nissan is like this.

That Getrag 6-speed on the R34 is barely capable of 600~650HP without blowing. So it's not that great either, although now the R35 transmission problem has been resolved with version 2 of the transmission.

Sounds like for the 2012 this problem is gone but i wouldnt be surprised if another problem came up. Pay more and get a faster car in the ZR1 or spend less and get a more practical, but still very fast CTS-V. Get the sedan, not the coupe. I think the CTS-V coupe is stupid.

It's hard for a transmission to cope with stress on an awd car at high rev. Most transmissions will break after a couple uses.They could have fixed it with a much more expensive transmission but that would bring the cost up and you're not going to die if you don't use LC, I mean come on, complaining won't get you anywhere.

In past it was the Dodge Omni, and others I am sure. I know everyone has tried "partnerships", in this case I think they are useing one of the most proffitable vehicle in the Chrysler line up. From what I do know, when their power/weight ratio is the same (ex: 800HP Switzer GTR P800 vs about 700HP ZR1 LPE Stage1), GTR walks on ZR1 every time. Give both similar Power/Weight ratio, GTR will beat Vette and is cheaper to buy! =)

My friend just got has a GT-R, he had a few simple guidelines to keep the car in warranty. It wasn't difficult to follow, and now we ride it hard on the streets all the time, and it's still under warranty. I don't care what you say, but when you're in this car and people are jumping in their seats screaming, pointing, staring and giving thumbs up at you every intersection is priceless. On top of that, we've only lost to one car, barely (the ZR1) Other than that, the car is WICKED fast.
I thought BMW had the same thing. They had a way to launch their M-Series cars but as soon as you did it, you voided the warranty and it only took about 3 times to completely trash the transmission.

I was understanding that the GTR transmission issue was only an issue on the 2009. THe 2010 and newer this has been resolved. My question is, in the GTR SpecV, how does the carbon fiber drive shaft hold up under high-speed launches. Seems like it would be more brittle to me. This pains me as I am a Skyline nut ;)

It's specifically written in the owners manual that the launch control with the vdc off is to get out of situations where the car is stuck in snow/mud. The car does 3.5 all day every day with the vdc in race mode.
I agree, that's pretty lame. Warranties shouldn't be instantly voided just because you use a car's feature.
We all know that drag-racing a car isn't exactly covered in the warranty, and if it looks like your transmission was blown because you do daily 6k clutch drops, nobody is going to cover it, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Subaru, doesn't matter
But at least with other cars you can take them to the max every now and then and still have your warranty.
For the price of the GTR, it should be forgiving just like a 20k car. SOmeone beats up a 20k car and its fine. That person paying 90 or 100k for a GTR should have the same mentality and be fine. Its not the consumers fault if they wanna see what the GTR can do and it breaks. That means nissan did a poor job.
@theguy1224 i work at nissan in nyc. and we have not one issue with the gtr tranny in nys... but i can imagine y the tranny would mess up, the gtr needs to be a stick shift n problem solved. and less than 2% of gtr's world wide have faced tranny death!

it was never meant to be a launch control function. It was meant to be used when the car was stuck in snow. Nissan never called it launch control. The new ECU update lets you "launch" without turning TC off. And Nissan goodwilled all trannys so no one had to pay for it.
This is why the GTR isn't all cracked up to be. Who cares how much cheaper it is than other cars. It's a sports car, but nothing like an exotic. You get what you pay for.
man i just got rid of my car and i was gonna get a gtr or a e60 m5 but man this is upsetting, gtr failed and the company doesn't want to help there customers who are buying there 90k sports cars...so sad

Great show. I just found you. I am in the collision repair biz. I think that if we see Chrysler bought it will be VW. They are useing the Caravan for the Routan. In past it was the Dodge Omni, and others I am sure. I know everyone has tried "partnerships", in this case I think they are useing one of the most proffitable vehicle in the Chrysler line up. Are you kiddin me bro? If you spend 20-50% more on a Vette over an import car that cost 80K (don't forget import duty tax), do you expect the more expensive V8 muscle car (with lighter 2 seater frame) to beat a V6 car (4 seater) overweight car?
From what I do know, when their power/weight ratio is the same (ex: 800HP Switzer GTR P800 vs about 700HP ZR1 LPE Stage1), GTR walks on ZR1 every time. Give both similar Power/Weight ratio, GTR will beat Vette and is cheaper to buy! =)

My friend just got has a GT-R, he had a few simple guidelines to keep the car in warranty. It wasn't difficult to follow, and now we ride it hard on the streets all the time, and it's still under warranty. I don't care what you say, but when you're in this car and people are jumping in their seats screaming, pointing, staring and giving thumbs up at you every intersection is priceless. On top of that, we've only lost to one car, barely (the ZR1) Other than that, the car is WICKED fast.

I thought BMW had the same thing. They had a way to launch their M-Series cars but as soon as you did it, you voided the warranty and it only took about 3 times to completely trash the transmission.

I understand abuse but simply using technology that the car is equipped with and then having Nissan weasle their way out of any warranty issues is IMO very lame. It sure doesn't sound as if they have very much confidence in what it can do if driven robustly on a track or twisties in the country don't you think so? I've taken my ZO6 to several track days and it never complains, in fact it asks for more.

Doesn't matter what manufacturer it is, they don't want people showing up every 20,000 miles to replace their transmissions because they keep blowing their transmissions due to their own stupidity and negligence. If you drive the car properly you shouldnt have a problem. even at the track.

I was understanding that the GTR transmission issue was only an issue on the 2009. THe 2010 and newer this has been resolved. My question is, in the GTR SpecV, how does the carbon fiber drive shaft hold up under high-speed launches. Seems like it would be more brittle to me. This pains me as I am a Skyline nut ;)

The first GT-R was the 1968 C10 series to up to the end of the skyline platformed GT-R's with the R34. The Skyline went to become the V35. The first ever Skyline to be sold in the US, and sold as the Infinity G35. The Nissan GT-R is not a Skyline. It is the GT-R. Nothing more, nothing less. Different than a skyline. ^.^

the GTR never has a launch control system.
that so called "launch control" is JUST FOR getting unstuck from snow. says the person who made up the GTR. it was never meant to use on racing whatsoever.
but everyone uses it for racing, so thats why they came up with this stupid idea of voiding the warranty. my friend owns one, he used the "launch control" a few times. luckily his tranny didnt break so hes all good.

It's specifically written in the owners manual that the launch control with the vdc off is to get out of situations where the car is stuck in snow/mud. The car does 3.5 all day every day with the vdc in race mode.

I agree, that's pretty lame. Warranties shouldn't be instantly voided just because you use a car's feature.
We all know that drag-racing a car isn't exactly covered in the warranty, and if it looks like your transmission was blown because you do daily 6k clutch drops, nobody is going to cover it, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Subaru, doesn't matter
But at least with other cars you can take them to the max every now and then and still have your warranty.

For the price of the GTR, it should be forgiving just like a 20k car. SOmeone beats up a 20k car and its fine. That person paying 90 or 100k for a GTR should have the same mentality and be fine. Its not the consumers fault if they wanna see what the GTR can do and it breaks. That means nissan did a poor job.

it was never meant to be a launch control function. It was meant to be used when the car was stuck in snow. Nissan never called it launch control. The new ECU update lets you "launch" without turning TC off. And Nissan goodwilled all trannys so no one had to pay for it.
