This is one of the more inefficient ways of adding vertical height. The higher you make it, the worse minecraft runs.

There is a better way, in which 16*16*16 chunks stack vertically. This not only allows near-infinite height, but also improves performance for some odd reason.

(This mod is called Cubic Chunks)

Just ranting because somehow CC isn't getting the popularity it deserves. :(

@waralotHD It generates mountains automatically. Unfortunately, Robinton accidentally changed the world gen options, and it currently generates mostly mountains. People have managed to get normal-looking worlds using a different standard option set, but nothing exactly like the old worlds.

@MrMrdeclano trust me, 2048 wouldn't run well, even on the strongest computer available. I have a decent computer (i7 at 3.06 GHz, 12GB RAM, Radeon HD 5770) and I had to run it off of a RAMDisk for minecraft to go above 2 fps, and that was at 1024 world height (BTW, after that it ran at a steady 15 fps)

With the larger distribution, this promotes safer diamond mining, assuming that the lava distributes as well, and disregarding random lava pools.

Normal 128 layers have lava start at layer 10 and the diamonds at 16. That's 6 spaces between safe diamonds and lava. On 512 layers, the lava starts at layer 40 and the diamonds at layer 64, making that 24 spaces between safe diamonds and lava.

Does this lag less than Cubic chunks mod? I tried that and it was pretty laggy when generating the world, but within playable level after generation was done.

However i was not happy with the cave generation system and the height was much more than enough so if this lags less i will probably play with this.

Where are you guys at when it comes to rewriting / modifying the terrain generation algoritms to compensate for the added height? As it stands right now, its impressive you were able to do this without incuring much of a performance hit, but the landscapes are, no offense, rather terrible. I would like to see this height mod applied in conjunction with fixes / tweaks to terrain generation. Also what hardware was this running on?
