If aliens attack earth iam so going under Kikos command just so i dont need to be accurate and shoot everywhere i want whit laser guns like: PEW PEW PEW........ cool lets play :D
That tends to be the usual command style. Under me, you could end up possible feeling sort of like a pack mule, but I don't think there is a way to be too prepaired.
@BrawnX My command style tends to be, "Kneel down, aim and shoot. If you fail, you're probably dead." My troops get surprisingly lucky. Also, like Kiko's, they tend to do surprisingly well shooting through windows.
Mine tend to be pretty good shots, as well as strong. Blasterbombs and laser rifles tend to be standard gear with a 50-50 split. I am heavyhanded with the Blasters, as everybody gets three rounds for it. Them, a laser rifle or stun rod, a medpack, and two flairs each works great. Depending on when the op takes place, the flairs are sometimes alien grenades(For terror missions) or stun bomb shells and launchers instead of blasters(for when I want a leader/commander).
you have better lick then me Kiko the first time i did a terror mission with about the same set up you have first person out got shot second person out got grenaded and third person out saw the crysalids that were coming i just up and quit then
16:14 When you said that, I realized it was a lie. You could have stunned him. Admittedly, he was probably useless anyway, being easily MCd and all, but you could at least have salvaged the Personal Armour!
Sonya fires close to friendly "Don't shoot my operative!" Sonya fires even closer to friendly "I said DONT shoot my operative!" Sonya shoots in the same general direction. ... Gotta love office pranks at X-Com!
@seggy1 Kiko's just being silly like that. Too lazy to research alien grenades (which are at least 5 times better than regular grenades), and too lazy to prime them before going into battle, I guess.
Also, High Explosives are much better than regular grenades at the start of the game.
Hey I remember the good ol' days when Kiko used to only move one guy per turn (think that was TFTD). :D it's a fun LP, I try not to think about what could be different...GJ Kiko
Couldn't you have avoided killing Geron by equipping your men with shock rods, or would they have added unnecessary weight, thereby decreasing your amount of turn units?
@Trusseck You only lose TUs if the unit is overweighted by gear. Still, he probably didn't want to spend the time to walk over to the pile of stun rods, equip one, and then walk back up to Geron and zap him. That and it's likely that Geron has a weak psionic strength and as such would need to be weeded out eventually.
@reddishwizardguy I suppose that he wasn't left with much choice postfacto, but I'd imagine his life would be somewhat easier if he were to equip his team with the rods at the beginning of every mission....tedious as it might be for him.
And I couldn't help myself.. I had to play along! I carefully weeded out the incompetent members however, and have 2 elite squads of 8 in power armor with heavy plasma. Needless to say, my death count isn't quite as bad :P Also, my 2 plasma cannon equipped firestorms are dropping those pesky battleships.
When you moved Sonya out from the small warehouse since she didn't kill the Sectoid, all I could utter was "WINDOW WINDOW WINDOW! GOOD GOD KIKO SHE'S AT A WINDOW!"
What I dont get is why you leave so many of your guys inside the craft... No criticism or anything, I genuinely dont know what reason there would be for not putting them all into the fight...
@Morgius87 You definitely still lose them. It happened to me a few days ago on the Steam version. I was credited with a captured alien though, so that's something.
Use laser weapons to punch holes in buildings. Just locate unknown life with a motion detector, set up a firing squad, and hope that it's not a civilian. It works wonders for opening up the map, making nice swiss cheesy hidey-holes to fire out from. I've blown out entire halves of buildings, leaving the second floor hovering impossibly over me, and it works fantastically.
That is why I dislike laser weapons. They make the game way too easy. Plasma is almost as bad though since the clips are so large and easy to get. I prefer gauss and sonic.
If you can get away with that kind of tactics, i bet you didn't apply the difficulty patch. Try going around corners like that at anything but beginner level and it's instadeath for your soldier. :-)
The last person I had that had his mind taken under control was in TOTD. There was 1 alien left and he molecular controlled one of my guys, I killed him and it ended the mission but the guy that was MCed however was still MCed and it counted him as MIA. I was like O.O
What I normally do is if a guy is being targetted by MC then I get him/her to drop all weapons inc grenades to stop him harming others and thenwhen the aliens have left him alone then I get him/her to pick up the stuff and cont.
While not reloading a save game might be what the "cool kids" prefer, I am of the opinion that it's more fun to watch the LP when the protagonists actually survive a mission. We NEED some heroes! ;)
Seriously, man. If you're going to save 50 times a mission, and especially if you're going to do it multiple times a TURN, then just revert the save. Why bother doing anything but a save at the start of the mission (in case of crashing) if you're never going to revert? There's no purpose and it just looks bad. You're a better gamer than that, Kiko, c'mon now. Savescumming is boring and makes you look terrible, but why else save SO often? I lost count in this one.

Augh, why the hell are you leaving over HALF YOUR TEAM in the lander?! Your solution to 'two guys being MC'd' is 'unequip the entire team and do the mission with five guys'?! What?! You get your team OUT of the Skyranger, spread them out, and blitz the map to kill every Sectoid you can. You don't try to TURTLE against mind control!
@marine5000 I'm assuming you are referencing the first of ChibiSoma's two comments. I see nothing wrong with pointing out flaws in playstyle - other people who are watching this LP have never played the game before, and they could pick up some very bad, very flawed tactics if they just emulated Kiko's playstyle.
Tactical appraisal: Commander Kiko, this board of inquiry notes that, should you have gotten your men out of the craft and shot the hell out of the cyberdisc and grays, three men would not have died. We fine you this month's booze rations as punishment.
We would fine you more, but you're our best hope. Give 'em hell commander.
*chuckles* seriously, you're doing alright, keep it up!
Hey, it could've been worse. Colonel Barry was positioned right in front of him; had he stayed inside the ship on that turn, Geron probably would've killed him instead!
the sectoids heard you when you called them harmless a few vids ago, and are punishing you for it :P

You should have had commander Malkil shoot his mind controlled subordinate. It would have proved his vigor as a leader.
Or is Malkil a female? I forget. Either way.
