I was right in the middle of Winfield during this storm, it was really dark there. This tornado actually tore the roof off my church in Winfield, while my mom and sister were inside. Thankfully everyone was in the basement and no one was harmed!
It was kind of funny too, we joked about seeing a tornado pop out of the sky and crossing the river by our campsite. It was only a few miles off to the north. Later that night, through the clearing in the trees in our campsite by the river, we watched an amazing light show for the rest of the evening as the storm moved east. Spectacular!
NICE! You had a great view from your vantage point. I shot about 5 minutes of video as well from the east side of the pecan grove, right by the river. Posted it shortly after getting home on the 20th. Hoping to see a lot more videos of the same storm. Pretty scary evening!
Ah... I remember this storm fondly. Destroyed our campsite. We got to stay up till like two in the morning setting it all back up so we could sleep under something. Arguably my least favorite Winfield experience.
Hey , are you kind of like a tornado chaser or something ?? Ive been wanting to be one..i totally remember this storm!! i was sooo amazed and it was a lil scary but mother nature..omg , is amazing! thanks for posting this i really enjoyed watching this..! its real good!
i live just west of there half mile or so, i went up the road that day to check things out and in no time at all we were in teh bunker, shit was crazy!
Thanks for hanging in there until the batteries died, better them than you. You were actually safer in the grove than if you were in your vechiles. The Picher, OK tornado proved that. Haven't been back to the Festival in quite awhile but keep talking about it. A really great time.
@skeeter710 Thanks! Too bad I did not go all the way to Winfield, Kansas that day. I got on another supercell that was in Greenwood County, Kansas that also produced a tornado. But I got on it too late. Would of been the highlight of the year if I did get to see that tornado. At least I got to see one this year, lol!
@mandogirl62 Thanks for checking out my video. You are right about the memory. I know I'll never forget. Glad no one was seriously hurt. See ya next Year!
