  • She did it before today's greats Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Rowland, Keyshia Coleand she sounded great also. I don't know what you're talking about on the looks though because there are better now days then back then.

  • Wow!! Thought Stevie was the only person to sing this one. Go Tammi Go!!

  • really nice song. born in 65'..missed it.

  • my first "crush"

  • Beautiful song tammi was absolute

    ly goregous:)

  • now i know where wale got sample the breakup song from!!!

  • what a beautiful tune. don't know who wrote it but kudos all the way..i light a candle everyday and so on

  • @CREWDOG289 - Troop remade the Jackson 5 song ALL I DO IS THINK OF YOU not this one. This song - best known by Stevie Wonder - is so beautiful in this original version by Tammi.

  • Comment removed

  • @Snooooooooooopy Did you know that Michael Jackson (with others) is singing the background vocals on Stevie's version?

  • TROOP REMADE THIS BUT THIS IS BETTER

  • I did not know this was originally Tammi Terrell's song!

  • Wow! Never heard this better. Very nice. I love that YouTube actually serves a good purpose, like discovering this gem.

  • I had never heard this version before. Tammi really displayed her vocal talents.

  • 6 dislikes have a word with yourselves !

  • This is the first time i heard this, and the song's not even over yet, but it's about to go on replay. I was surprised. I love this. I thought stevie wonder wrote this song for hotter than the 4th of july... stevie did an amazing job. Tammi just made my day!

  • @ThinkTankEricD ....Stevie Wonder, Morris Broadnax and Clarence Paul wrote this song.... Tammi did it, then Brenda Holloway, then Stevie ... it's an amazing song that has lasted and lasted... actually, this has been made since Stevie did it...

  • I saw the Unsung about her I just cried and I hate that she died so young... I am 36 years old and I am bumping this woman songs... She was awesome... Hugs to Terri Terell in heaven from Sametra on earth...

  • I just watched her unsung documentary, this poor girl endured a three man rape, beatings from two jerks by the names of James Brown and David Ruffin and her brain tumor, so sad she went through that, it always happens to the best people

  • QUE JOIA RARA! LOVE!

  • I Love Terrell. forever .

always your song is alive in my heart.

  • She an Icon...what a voice...I love Tammi

  • Yes Stevie wonder remade this song, but I hope you all know, that Stevie Wonder wrote & arranged it ion the 1st place!

  • 6 dislikes?? Come on people!!

  • Wow...I didn't know Stevie Wonder remade this...that's crazy. I guess the later Motown artists (Stevie Wonder and Diana Ross) stole some of her thunder...

Tammi Terrell was an incredible artist.

  • Is someone trying to erase her legacy? Because on wikipedia I don't think theres any mention she ever sung this

  • I watched the UnSung documentary today and man you're talking about something heart touching. She endured so much in her 24 years of living. From being raped, abusive relationships with James Brown & David Ruffin to having 8 to 9 brain surgeries from brain tumors;yet still trying to sing and perform.

  • @pdubb32 I just watched her story and I just wanted to burst into tears. Very heart breaking. It's so sad. So beautiful, gifted, and young. WOW!!!

  • RIP

  • Stevie Wonder remade this song. Tammi Terrell was such a great singer, I really believe that Berry Gordy squandered an opportunity to showcase her talent as a solo artist before her passing. R.I.P. Tammi.

  • @devilpuppy1969 in his mind nobody could be bigger than diana ross. she could have been better

  • Berry was too consumed with Diana...how could he hold this back?!?!?

  • Beautiful. Sad that a young woman who had an amazingly talented voice such as Tammi's died way before her time. Lovely, lovely voice.

  • Still in total disbelief that this version was never released as a single back in the '60's... 'sup, Berry??? What were you thinking???

  • The original voice, she should have had this be a single.

  • stevie and wale!!

  • Wow, a lot of people did this song! I love all versions

  • This song is so very beautiful. 30 yrs. ago I was enjoying Stevie Wonder's version not knowing one of my absolute favorite singers did it first. Thanks for posting! I only wish there was more footage of her so that we could enjoy watching her perform. I have tried everything that I know to locate footage but to no avail.

  • Boy I hate the fact she died so young. She had it all, looks and a great singing voice.

  • @SwingItLikeMoe I know.Too young.24 years old.Great,wonderful Talent.

  • sweet

  • I been looking for this beat ever since I heard Wale's 'the break up song'.

  • nice song

  • OMG! I never knew she sang this song back in the day! Beautiful voice!

  • Wale sampled this song for break up i love both of the songs tho <3

  • Can't get any better!

  • Loving this song by Tammi. Motown should have promoted it more than they did, if they did it at all. Too busy promoting Diana Ross, I guess. Brenda Holloway's version is good too. Just a great song, all in all.

  • Wow! I never knew about this! Stevie wrote this for her first before he had a hit with it! Nice arrangement

  • IF the do the Tammi Terrell movie it should be Temiya because she look a lot like her! But so do Beyounce!

  • wale sampled this beat on the break up song

  • Classic!

  • When they do her story.....1 name....Taraji P. Hensen

  • @oneluv72 Well I agree but they better hurry up. She ain't getting any younger.

  • @oneluv72 she will kill it period

  • Comment removed

  • dope i love her voice and its in the key B WOW SO DOPE

  • Stevie wrote the song & Tami recorded it first.

  • this song is ALL TIME

  • this song is ALL TIME

  • this song is ALL TIME

  • THINKING OF HER,, WHAT A SINGER!! LOVE THE MUSIC AND ALWAYS WILL

  • I love this song, so impressing!! *____*

  • You guys know the breakup song by wale?? isnt this playing at the beginning?? i love it.

  • Never heard this version. Grew up knowing Stevie's version.

  • taraj p henson looks like her right?

  • @casapia88 You are right! Taraj does look a bit like her.

  • wonderful song!

  • a talent lost too soon

  • I love this version by Tammi Terrell. It's more personal and reaches the soul. She was wonderful and "I wonder how exciting it would be" if she could have lived longer and made more beautiful and soul calming music.

  • I only knew that Stevie Wonder did this! Wonder if he wrote it?

  • @debtrigg Yes Stevie Wonder wrote & arranged this song. He also co-wrote Tears Of A Clown with Smokey Robinson. Stevie wrote Shame for The Spinners, & played all the instruments, bass, guitar, keys, drums on the demo he sent to them. Stevie wrote, produced & arranged Let's Get Serious for Jermaine Jackson,Stevie wrote I Cant Help It for M.J. Stevie wrote, arranged "Tell Me Something Good" for Rufus & Chaka Khan. sStevie also wrote Aretha Franklin's 1st #1 pop song "Until You Come Back To Me.

  • Never heard this version who would have known that Stevie Wonder remade his own song

  • This has that Marvelettes type groove, like the Hunter gets captured by the game. Tammi could blow!~DAM!~ who knows she may have eventually took the Supremes to whole other level after Diana left! A man can dream can't HE??

  • @tedkay i heard she wanted to stay solo. they wanted her with the supremes but she didn't want it.

  • OMG heaven

  • I had no idea that Tammi Terrell did this first either. And this is an absolutely gorgeous version. I love the longing and wistfulness of this. Stevie's is more grooving and jamming. But this version has me really feeling the lyrics and I love the arrangement. Tammi's voice is awesome. Stevie is an amazing lyricist.

  • wale-the breakup song :)

  • OMG, I didn't know this wasn't Stevie's original!! OMG, I thought it was always his!

    I really love this song.

I love the fact I learned this. I still love Stevie's version.

    I love this version too.

  • Amazing! This is so lovely. That voice. man, gone too soon

  • @AleekahTV taragii p. henson could nail such a role.

  • I love this version its well sweet and mellow.

  • fu...!!! thats not marvin

  • be thankful for u tube!!! type in an artist you respect and there she is!!!! first class beautiful, soulful lady, with a potential she was robbed of! what a vocal that lady had xx love her

  • and they talk of the tragic death of amy winehouse ,,,rip tammy

  • & i thought stevie wonder was the creator of this song!

  • @purplelove010 ummm he IS

  • I wish there were a video for this. I would like to see her perform this wonderful song.

  • My jaw dropped when I heard the beginning of the song, because I recognized it from Wale's song. And my jaw remained that way until the end of the song because of Tammi Terrell's voice.

  • This has to be the greatest song Tammi ever sung yet many people do not even know about it!! It is so clear and upbeat as if it was recorded today!! This beautiful woman died too young and I feel she should be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame!! She simply was fantastic and she and her music will never die!

  • I like her version of this song and Brenda Holloway's too. For me, Tammi's is a little better.

  • @JJN259 I agree. I also think Stevie has them both beat. It ain't got that umph that he gives it. You know, that thing that makes you say dam, he thinking about you girl. He thankin bout ya!

  • She's singing in hevean with Marvin, Flo Ballard, Sam Cooke, and Ray Charles.

  • Just awesome! Gorgeous song on its own but Between Stevie's prodigy...and Tammi's tragic early demise...makes it all the more haunting and beautiful.

  • She was/is so underrated

  • I never knew Tammi did this song!!! I love it!!

  • @Tastymama26 -- I didn't either but it was originally wrote for her... Stevie wonder just put it out (according to press)

  • Motown never released this as a single. Unbelievable.

  • @MoveOnSoulClub shameful top 10 hit positively

  • Wow! So used to hearing her paired with Marvin but listen to this then-21 year old just nail this song!

  • I like Stevie's version better!!! Don't get me wrong, I love Tammi but Stevie hit it!

  • wale smapled this in his song: the breakup song.

  • god she is so breathtaking, beautiful. , no not beautiful, shes more then beautiful, gosh why cant they event a word for more then just beautiful.

  • I agree with your Diana Ross comment. I was upset to hear Diana's version of "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" until I heard that she did not really want to record it or did not like it after it was recorded. I have no doubt that she felt uneasy around this gorgeous beauty who had a voice like no other. Had she survived, she would have out sang all of the women at Motown, without a doubt.

  • Comment removed

  • perfect pity we cant clone her

  • @MrSALFORDSTEVE we can believe me lol!!!!!!!

  • damn! digging this!

  • She made the world a better place.

  • One of the all time greats of the Motown story Tammy was in her prime and destined for superstardom to become what she is today a real female legend in the industry it was a shame she passed on so young

  • REALLY? Only a doosh would hit the dislike button

  • Her sister wrote a book about Tammi, think it is very interesting, because of all the rumours you read on the internet about Tammi's life. Her personallity is touching, great. When you see the Motown site (the one with the museum) not a word you find about Tammi... Talkin about respect! THX for your reaction missjuniquee 719 (nice name)

  • i love tammy im 31 yrs and im still learing about her music simply the best!

  • Can't help it must hear this beautiful song all the time.

Reading about Tammi's life makes you very very sad.

When you wanna read about her life see the documentary on TVone.com, it's very

interresting, I warn you, you must fight against the tears!

I think she was more tallented than Diana Ross.

    R E S P E C T & RIP Tammi

  • @163Peety i cried, her story was so sad and she died so young.

  • There is no Tammi's Version. lol. Stevie wrote this song FOR Tammi to sing back in the 60's and then re-recorded it in the 80's as a tribute to her. lol

  • Classic Love Tammi Terrell R.I.P

  • This version was played on the radio as I drove home one dark, quite night and I was in complete rapture. When I arrived home I found it on U Tube and added it to fav list. I always loved the Stevie version, but this is so much more understated, a real soulful classic

  • Yay wale sampling from this

  • When everything falls into place! Romantic love, like a mountain high full of flowers and happiness!

  • i really HAVE LEARN TO APPRECIATE TAMMI'S VOICE ON THIS VERSION. Yes this is much better than Stevie's version. This was very heart felt and sad because her TRUE potential was never realized.

  • im so loving this!!! God rest her soul!!!

  • Magical!!!

  • I just found out that Tammi sung this before Stevie and I love both versions.

  • You learn alot about your music if you broaden your horizons! Im lovin it.. Always loved Stevies.. Now I just LOVE Tammi's!!!

  • This jam is timeless and just makes you understand what real music sounds and feels like! They are just now beginning to see that this new music sucks and are beginning to play real music on our local radio stations! Internet and satellite radio must be kicking butt and taking names for them to finally wake up!

  • @LGKids TAMMI'S VOICE IS TIMELESS, SHE REALLY KNEW HOW TO BELT OUT A SONG!! VERY SAD SHE DIED SO YOUNG. THEY JUST DO NOT MAKE MUSIC LIKE THIS ANYMORE!!

  • @LGKids I am so happy for you. This coming from a white, 59 yr white, female who grew up with not only this but ALLLLLLLLL the motown tunes. Happy discoveries, for sure!!

  • @kdd3051 , first of all let me say, that I am flattered to get this commenta and I wish I had grown up around the blow up of Motown! I am so glad that my Mom put me up on everything that was good music! Peace to you and I am jealous and do envy you!lol!

  • And this is how it should always be: 0 dislikes for Miss Terrell. She deserves the utmost praise and respect for her talents & having achieved and conquered so much in an unfortunately quick lifetime.

  • If she would not have died, she would of been the best, there would not have been know Diana ... Diana who?

  • @eli0298 I agree, Tammi was the best, much better than Miss Ross! Tammi should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame also! Appreciate your comment!!

  • @eli0298 I HIGHLY AGREE!! TAMMI COULD SING CIRCLES AROUND MISS ROSS. I ALWAYS THOUGHT TAMMI SHOULD OF BEEN LEAD SINGER OF THE SUPREMES THAT WOULD OF REALLY BEEN SOMETHING!! HER FLORENCE BALLARD AND MARY WILSON, GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @eli0298 WORD!

  • @eli0298 Exactly. She is so underrated. I love her voice.

  • this is a top 10 hit in 1966 period anyone agree?

  • @kolense I agree with you, Tammi was the best!!

  • @kolense I AGREE, TAMMI REALLY SANG THIS SONG FROM THE HEART AND IT DEFINITELY STANDS UP WELL TODAY!! WHAT A TREMENDOUS VOICE AND TREMENDOUS DELIVERY!! NO MORE LIKE TAMMI FOR SURE!!

  • @kolense

    I truly agree

  • I miss her..

.. and that is strange because she way before my time

    We will never forget you

    xoxoxo

  • @kymmirox Mine too, and I'm 32 years old. I got a chance to see Unsung last week, and number one: It gave me an idea for a movie that ought to be done on her life. And I think that Taraji P Henson could play her, and Usher should play Marvin Gaye if they ever did a movie on her life. It also reminded me of what it meant to be to have a voice and sing from the soul. And you can FEEL what mood they're putting you in. It could be seductive, or romantic, but ALL with class. Not in dirty content.

  • @phesterjr I saw that as well.. made my heart sink.. it was so sad.. I cried the whole time...And Yes Ms. Henson could do it ... and she can actually sing..

Awesome.. most definitely see Usher in the Marvin role because he has a smooth demeanor .. and of course he can sing..

I just downloaded a lot of her music..

I could listen to this song over and over again.

I thank the lord for giving me the gift of hearing.

  • @kymmirox Lemme ask you this. Obviously, Tammi Terrell is before OUR time. And there is a respect for singers BEFORE our time. And artists during OUR generation. Can you honestly say that these new artists coming out now are making the same kind of impact on music as say a Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Take 6, or Notorious BIG and 2Pac were doing? Jazmine Sullivan I can dig, and Alicia Keyes too. But would label Beyonce or Jay Z legends? Or even Lady Ga Ga or Lil Wayne?? I say HELL No.

  • @phesterjr Of course I would say that the greats like MJ, Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross, Barry White, etc have a lasting impact that will carry on even after death.

Beyonce is more of a performer/entertainer and I am a fan of her energy that she brings to the stage when she performs.

I love Jazmine Sullivan, Chrisette Michelle, Jill Scott, Amel Larrieaux, Mary J Blige, Melanie Fiona.. and Fantasia..

I can't call Jay Z a legend .. but he is a lyricist.. and I CAN DIG IT

  • @kymmirox No doubt. You hit it on the nose about Jay and B. It all makes sense.

  • @phesterjr I have to agree one hundred percent. It is to easy these days to crown an artist or group, as a Legend. The true Legends are distinguished through Decades of success. Stevie, Smokey, Even Marvin, if he was alive today could make millions of dollars touring. They would not have to RECORD, a single. All these artist's could Tour Europe, asia Africa, the carribean, and South America,PACKING STADIUMS, performing their ORIGINAL HITS. I would pay to see Marvin B4 all these modern day stars.

  • @allahbuild Me too. To see Marvin now would be a dream come true. :)

  • @phesterjr MAN OH MAN... I TOTALLY AGREE WITH THE MOVIE THING. TARAJI AND USHER WOULD BE PERFECT FOR THE ROLES OF TAMMI AND MARVIN. THEY FIT THEIR DESCRIPTION ALL TO WELL!!! THAT WOULD BE AN AMAZING MOVIE. FAVORITE EPISODE OF UNSUNG BY FAR.!

  • @ULiK3iT Hell yeah. I'm glad you agree with me and see the same vision that I do. Maybe when I get out of school I'll write a script for a movie on her if possible. But I would really have to do one on one research with her family and friends like Spike Lee did with the Malcolm X movie in '92.

  • @kymmirox I felt this same feeling, but couldn't put my finger on it- you put it into words perfectly. I was maybe 4 when Tammi died and yet, learning about this amazing woman and hearing her music- I miss her too, very much.

  • i like this song man i want them to make a movie about her life badly

  • Stevie wrote this song for Tammi and then recorded it after her death. Both versions are AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I admire her strength she made all these beautiful songs and passed away at such a young age. she is my idol,

  • I like Tammi`s version as well, a beautiful talented,legend.

  • This is awesome...Someone needs to get to work on a Tammi Terrell movie. I can't believe this music has been hidden for so long...

  • Make a moving I heard her sung and it got my heart because I known what it felt I AM 65 yrs been there.

    contrerasronnie

  • wow i didnt know tammi did this song 1st...this version has the flair only tammi possessed. im glad UnSung told her story to us. if u havent seen it, it's a must-watch 4 all her fans

  • @ladymuziklover

I concur; saw it Mon. on TVOne's "Unsung" and LOVED it!!!! I actually made it through without crying. She was a strong woman. Up until the end, she felt she was going to beat that tumor. Bless her heart!!!

  • @lepoetress She had beaten so much in her life that would destroyed an average person, she overcame a rape, domestic violence and fought a VALIANT fight against that tumor, you can't do anything but respect Miss Terrell, She was never a victim!

    RIP Baby, you've earned it!

  • @carmenjones411

You are SO RIGHT!!! It is just so sad to think this woman is "Unsung". Just hearing her acappella ..... Lord, have mercy, that woman could sang LOL!!!! I wish they had footage of her and Marvin singing @the Appollo when she was in the wheelchair singing "Your Precious Love". They say she tore it up!! Sadly, that was the last time she sung in public, they said.

  • @lepoetress Yes! amen 2 that

  • allllllllllll iiiii beeeeeeeee is bout my moneyyyyyyyy, i love findin soul samples dats been used

  • This track has a haunting quality Tammi brings to it,One of my all time Fave Motown tracks.

  • A beautiful woman with a beautiful talent.

Taken from us aged just 24

Her premature death wasn't entirely in vain though.

It inspired Marvin Gaye & Renaldo Benson to write & record 'What's Going On' the ground breaking, land mark album that completely revolutionised Soul and inspired a generation.

    RIP Tammi

  • She is incredibly beautiful and has a great voice and her and Marvin looked like the top of a wedding cake together. I'm glad Unsung is doing her because this woman should have been legendary.

  • ok but Stevie still wrote and its this song. It's good but def not better then Stevie Wonder's ver.

  • @Timba82 I agree completely and think it's rather foolish to compare or suggest otherwise.....

  • I LOVE THIS SONG AND TAMMI

  • I HAD NO CLUE THAT MS. TAMMI TERRELL SANG THIS SONG. WOW!!!
