Hurricane Irene hit the US the same time that Super-Typhoon Mina (nanmadol) hit the Philippines, which was much stronger than Irene. Mina was packing winds 100-120 mph. But 16 only died, 61,000 evacuated in the Philippines while 29 Americans died and 2 millions ordered evacuated for Irene. There must be something really wrong with the US why a 3rd world country like the Philippines can survive a stronger typhoon better. The people who usually die are poor people who drown in the floods

@polzowatel well first the earthquake hit virginia, you happened to feel a little shake, people in VA (like me) felt the real deal, steve jobs leaving apple has nothing to do with new york, and by the time the hurricane hits new york it's weakened to a bad storm
