I know this video is more than a week old, but I wanted to point out one thing. The JET Program is Japan's program and at least 36 different countries participate in the JET Program and many of those are NON-English countries. So if you are interested, talk to the Japan Embassy or Consulate in your home country (the one you are a citizen of) and check out JET's website
And by degree you obviously mean a teaching degree? For instance, my Fine Arts BA or MA would do me little good, or would it matter? Given I could speak English and Japanese.
Good video with helpful information. I'm a relatively new subscriber, and planning to move to Japan early next year. I have been looking into shipping my things to myself there and it is SO expensive. Like UPS and Fedex, they only do Air shipping, no seamail like Japan will do. Any info on sending items to yourself or moving everything you own to japan without paying thousands of dollars? Thanks for any info :-)
@keenanjpn Don't be too attached to stuff. You can probably bring all essential stuff within your allowed baggage on the flight over. Most or all of the other stuff you want (but don't really need) you can buy in Japan. You'll probably have some friends or relatives who will want to visit you over there so you may be able to give them some stuff to bring for you. Feel free to ask about specifics.
I really like this video because I have given thought to teaching English in Japan. This is very helpful! Thanks you guys! But I agree with you about moving all your videos like this to YTBulletTrain. Especially if it's a video with the big guy in it, then it definitely needs to be on YTBulletTrain! Hahaha! Also my feeling for moving to Japan; to me it seems as if you would almost need a Japanese girl or wife to take care of everything. I don't speak Japanese so I would be TOTALLY lost. Hahaha!
@Degenskoto pronouns and plural form. He always used the words "him" and "her" and hardly ever used "he" or "she". As for plural form, he never pluralized anything. He would say, for example, "there are 3 man and 3 woman at the table."
@nihongogogo I have zero knowledge of the French language so I couldn't say about the use of plural form. Even if it is true it's an error when teaching English. I hope none of that, or my previous comment, was taken out of context though. My entire point was that you don't have to have English as your first language to teach it over here. Not saying it's good or bad, it's just the way it is over here. If anything I was hoping to encourage the other guy to give it a try. Thanks for the message.
whoa..2 youtube celebs for my vid response, sweet. i get people having a hard time with the name its ojii like how the Japaneses say uncle, ojiisan than the 111 part is just triple 1 or like triple ichi. My real name is james, jim for short.
thanks guys ill look into after the xmass season.
I had an English high school teacher that went to Japan teach for a couple of months. I kind it funny that your friend pointed out French Canadians, because me and my teacher are both French Canadians.
@MurdocLC Well you'd pick the language up quicker by moving there. I plan on going for the first time in 2012 myself though. I'm going to a study abroad program through my university and live there for at least a semester.
we have british council here and it organizes certificate exams(first cert., advanced and proficiency). if you have one of these, you can teach in most of the countries in the world, i think japan also.
also: who's the perfect wife? the wife that buys you beer! (makes sense! XD)
In the late 90s, there were many claims that a fake degree would do the trick...that little was done to determine whether or not degrees were legit. Is there any truth to that? I'm not asking because I want to scam the system. Just curious.
Do you know the Japanese language before planning to go to Japan as a teacher?

@WarmothStrat I might be wrong, but aren't french plurals only spelled and not spoken?
