So exploitation is an acceptable answer to abject poverty is it? Child labor is nothing more than the unjustifiable exploitation of the poor by the rich.
Slavery too is unjustifiable exploitation by the rich that defies all decency & human rights. There's a lot more wrong with it than merely the possibility that the slave might be unmotivated & lazy.

I am not saying 'good 'ol day' - I am saying these were hard but sometimes actions taken were sometimes a must. A link between that and slavery is very shallow! You see a difference between a child (say 14-16) working to provide for family (younger brothers and sisters etc.) and a slave who is enforced to abandon fruits of his work?!
