  • Who cares what this murdering pig did?

He flew his aircraft against countries his pig leader, HIitler was invading, trying to take the resourses they owned legally to force them to submit to the Nazi regime.

He knew what he was doing, he should have been hanged as a war criminal.

Rot in hell you Greman pig.

  • @wompus111 yes rot in hell you boat-german pig. peace nigga.

Get over winner propaganda or shut up

  • @wompus111 You rot in hell unless you have any knowledge of aerial warfare, from an Englishman.

  • The third knight cross was lost during a bombardment over Berlin, tho Galland managed to save the document, Hitler ordered a fourth one to replace it.

  • Galland said that he received the Knight Cross with swords and diamonds FOUR times. The first was given to him when he reached the 100th victory from Hitler itself. But Göring detected that the diamonds were of an inferior quality of Luftwaffe's standards. So, he took it away and made a second one, with improved quality saying Hitler was cheated. When Hitler heard about this, he made a third one for him adding as an extra, an official heraldic document in gold letters as proof of legitimacy...

  • My Grandfather, a mechanic, met him at "El Palomar" air base in Argentina. He talked with him for about half an hour because they were neighbours back in Germany, he always said Galland was a true gentleman. My gfather worked for about an year in the "PULQUI" project. The Pulqui was a jet fighter similar to the russian MIG-15, designed by Kurt Tank, the FW-190's creator. Tank was the chief engineer, and Galland was hired as a general advisor by the Argentine goverment. He lived here 10 years

  • everyone used horses but germans had more machines than everyone else at the start of the war.

  • No disrespect to Mr. Galland but I would have to say Eric Hartman was the best ace of all time 352 kills in total

  • @ExclusiveXxXxXx I completely agree, they all had talent, however skill & kill tallies speak for themselves. take care.

  • great pilots

  • true that. the high quality of the germans was not enough. they need more , more, and much more numbers to match the human strengh of the russians and americans.

  • @Rico8458 thats why the wehrmacht depended on horses and wagons for over 80% it's transportation instead of motorized transport like trucks? Nothing like going to war in the 20th century with horses and wagons against those inferior Allies like US and UK which had to make due with trucks. go figure high quality of those superior german horses and wagons ?

  • Galland is the very essence of being cool. Anyone who stuck to his guns drew the ire of the Fatso Goring, who was a better politician than strategist.

  • veilleicht galland hat seinem mutter genommen?

  • when the russians crashed the real german army ,the americans took the decision for the operation overlord,so russians won the war, after that americans exercised about "fighting german kids and old retired germans"

  • Have you forgotten Hiroshima, Nagasaki and other cities in Japan and Germany?

What gave rights to Allies for those actions?

This guy just did his duty and he did it very well.

  • Who was the aggressor? Who started the war? What did they expect?

Who bombed London, who devastated Warsaw? Who totured POW's? Who commited genocide? Who started two world wars that killed millions of people?

Germans in that time thought they had the God given right to rule the world.

Don't give me that crap about duty. They did it for the 'Fatherland' whatever that is, not disimilar to Islamic extremists now.

    Killers are killers.

  • It is a popular conception that Germany started World War One. That is not so. Read your history books. The kaiser got dragged into WW I by the Austrians and /Serbo Croats. His entire general staff was against an involvement.

I have not found any documentation about tortured POWs. Where do you get that? The Japs sure did torture Allied Pows.

  • You do your duty in defence of your country, not flying over another one to defend your bombers killing civilians from fighters trying to protect them.

Who started the war? Who bombed London and devastated Warsaw?

Duty? Bollocks! These people knew what they were doing, murdering.

  • These people like Galland were fighting for their homeland like everyone in war.

Galland and most of Germans didnt care shit about Hitler.

    Who nuked Hirsohima and Nagasaki?

Who bombed Every German and Japanese cities down to the ground? Who raped and killed every single German child and woman they could get in their hands in the end of the war?

  • @Killjoy45

If he didn't give a shit for Hitler then why did he fight and kill in his cause?

The allies used Nukes because the Japs would not give up when they knew they were beaten.

German and Japenese cities were bombed to the ground in a similar way to Coventry and London in the UK. German forces even made a joke of it.

As to raping and killing, are you serious? The final solution? Are you proud of that?

  • @wompus111

Read his book where he tells pretty clearly that he hated Hitler and especially Goering like most of the German soldiers did. They didnt fight in his cause they fought for their homeland. Stereotype that gives a picture about arrogant and inhuman German soldiers (mostly given in comics and movies like ''Commando comics'') is just childish.

  • @Killjoy45: Don't be naive... of course Galland is going to say that after the war! A better clue as to Galland's real feelings about Hitler is how he felt in the 1920s and 1930s, before the war and Germany's defeat. If he hated Hitler then, maybe you have a case... but if he did hate him, why did he fight for him anyway? He could have left Germany before the war without too much difficulty - but he did not, which suggests his real allegiance.

  • @wompus111

About nukes. Japanese were already discussing about surrendering when Allies dropped the nukes. Hiroshima and Nagasaki made them only decide faster. About that USA dropped the nukes only in that cause because they wanted to end the war faster is also bullshit. There were many reasons on top of that: They wanted to TEST nukes in real action, revenge for Pearl Harbor, startling Soviet Union etc.

  • @Killjoy45 americans were mad they were not dropped earlier. it would have saved thousands of allie's lives. truman was a wimp.

  • @Killjoy45: Wrong again, Killjoy. The Japanese were divided about surrendering. The pro-surrender faction was opposed bitterly by fanatics in the Japanese army and elsewhere, right up until the surrender itself. There was even an attempt on the emperor's life in reprisal for his agreement to lay down Japan's arms. An invasion of Japan would have cost more than a million lives, Japanese and American; Truman made the right call for everyone concerned by dropping the atomic bombs.

  • @wompus111

They were bombed down to the ground in a similar way you say? Sorry, but you cant even compare those. Allies made bombs which were particularly meant for destroying cities and turning them to ashes. Dresden and cities in Japan were very good explanations. I have noticed that when I'm looking for information about Strategic bombing during WW2, I mostly find photos about bomb damages in London and Warsaw. Cities like Hamburg are conveniently left out.

  • @Killjoy45 hamburg lost.

  • @Killjoy45: There's plenty of information out there on strategic bombing; the reason why mostly allied data turns up is that only the allies used the terms "strategicx bombing," and then only rarely during the war (the term took hold mostly during the Cold War). The authoritative account of the Dresden attack is by Frederick Taylor, "Dresden: Tuesday, February 13, 1945" (2002). He proves conclusively that Dresden was a military - and not just civilian - target.

  • @wompus111

And about raping and killing during the end of the war and after. What makes you think I'm proud of it? Actually I'm not. I just think that in the end those actions showed that especially Russians weren't any better than those they called ''fascist beasts''. That also gave the REAL picture about the war. There was no good side or bad side. There were only victims. Unfortunately so many people open their eyes only for the romanticized picture which gives good side and bad side.

  • @Killjoy45 keep sniffing asscracks, assclown. nazi germany started a pre-emptive world war by invading it's neighbors and cockblocking it's allies and 'BFF' the soviet union. Besides invading it's neighbors, nazi germany also ass raped the entire western european economys by out right theft of resources and infrastructures to fuel it's own epic failed economy. now go and have a nazi fagtard pity party by yourself, assclown.

  • @fluffy1931

Sorry, but I won't argue with 14 years old kid or maybe even younger one. ;-)

  • @Killjoy45.., keep sniffing asscracks, assclown.

  • @fluffy1931

    <--Mistä näitä ''neroja'' sikiää? :-D

  • @Killjoy45 ...and fuk u.

  • @Killjoy45 the side that one and now occupies germany.

  • @Killjoy45 Who started terrorbombing inSpain, Gurenica? Went on to do so inWarsaw, Rotterdam, The Hague, London, Coventry, Manchester and so on? Shot not so smart V1's and V2's all over the place? The defending of the reich started after that same reich invaded Poland, parts of Scandinavia, Holland, Belgium, France, Greece, Russia, Africa and at England their luck ran out.... So who started it?!? And do NOT forget that Germany was also looking for a nuclear bomb. They just ran out of time....

  • @Killjoy45

Civilian Casualties were far far higher on the Allied rather than the Axis side. It was not even close.

  • @Killjoy45: Re: "Galland and most of Germans didnt care shit about Hitler." Your evidence for that statement, please? After the war, all Germans suddenly morphed into anti-Nazis, in the blink of an eye when it served their interests to say so.

Re: "Who nuked Hirsohima and Nagasaki?" What does that have to do with anything? Germany, had it gotten the atomic bomb (or Japan for that matter) first, would not have hesitated to use it.

  • @Killjoy45: Re: "Who bombed Every German and Japanese cities down to the ground?" The Axis powers all practiced "terror bombing" of civilians in the pre-war years in places llike Guernica, Ethiopia, and Shanghai; they sowed the wind and reaped the whirlwind. As for the rape and killing of civilians at the war's end, that was the Soviets, not the western allies, which is one reason your average German wanted to surrender to a GI or a Tommy, not a Soviet soldier.

  • No I have not. The Japenese refused to surrender even though their navy and airforce were decimated and avowed that they would fight to the last man.

Given that the American losses would run into hundreds of thousands, if not millions, the action taken was inevitable.

As to the German cities, Coventry? London? Southhapton? WTF did you expect? Roses?

    Who started it?

  • I would understand Hiroshima and Nagasaki if those bombs would be meant to hit in the military targets.

But those areas which yanks chose were completely harmless civil areas!

''even though their navy and airforce were decimated''.

Sorry but thats not true. They still had ships and airplanes. And Japan would have surrendered even without nuclear bombs.

And about terror bombing between Britain and Germany. It was started by British. Have you what actually started bombings against London?

  • @Killjoy45: Killjoy, you misunderstand the nature of warfare, which is first and foremost about breaking the enemy's will to resist. Even with the submarine blockade and relentless conventional bombing, Japan still wouldn't give in. Hiroshima and Nagasaki weren't "completely harmless civilian areas; " they were strategically important centers of manufacturing and thus valid targets. Read Iris Chang's "The Rape of Nanking" and maybe you'll have a better idea of what we were up against.

  • Let me fix the last line.

Have you forgotten what actually started bombings against London?

  • The bombing of Berlin. Hitler then statrted bombing London. If he had not been such an arrogant and stupid prat and had listened to hi Generals he would have continued to attack the RAF bases on the ground which would have led to the destruction of British air defences and allowed the glorious Nazi invasion of England.

Then you could have rounded up all the Jews, Gypsies and other sub humans like you did in Poland and killed them all in the gloryous name of the Fatherland.

    Murdering scum.

  • A Few German bombs hit Coventry so the British bombed Berlin. It was not Hitlers intention to bomb London. The Germans did not have the Norden bombsight.

  • @kimba112104

    A few German bombs?

Five hundred tons of bombs plus thousands small firebombs released from over four hundred aircraft.

Nearly six hundred people killed in one night, thousands injured and homeless, a small city devastated.

What did you expect in retalliation? You sewed the wind, you reaped the whirlwind.

  • @kimba112104 .

A few German bombs hit Coventry? Are you serious? Coventry was devestated by the murdering Nazi pigs.

Ordinary people, working, bringing up thier chidren, maimed and killed by a meglonaniac who wanted to rule the world.

What did you expect in return? Flowers?

  • @wompus111 Ya, a few. The British were dropping errant bombs on German civilians as early as May 15, 1940, German did not drop errant bombs until Aug 24. and the British knew it. Germany did not want to bomb civilians but the British did. And only 198 tons fell on Coventry and killed only 176 people between Aug-Oct.1940. Get your number right Wompass. The British were bombing German civilians and cities 6 weeks before Aug 24, 1940. Who's bombing civilians.?/ Check your facts!!!!

  • @kimba112104: a few German bombs? Coventry was set ablaze by German bombers. Read some history. The Norden bombsight is irrelevent to the discussion; it certainly didn't prevent the He-111s etc. from leveling Rotterdam or Warsaw or any of the thousands of other cities they bombed.

  • You fight for your homeland if it's invaded, not when you are trying to invaded it. That is defence.

I could maybe understand if were not for the industrial, production line murder of people in the death camps you bastards created.

A significant portion of your youth seem to agree and would like to repeat the excecise.

  • @bill24777 The British May 12,1940 by bombing transport stations across the Ruhr Valley then May 15 on Gelsenkirchen, Later in May it was Essen,Duisburg Dusseldolf,Dortmund. In June it was Dortmund,Mannheim,Frankfurt & Bochum. The Germans did not bomb military or economic targets in UK til 6 weeks later. Who started it. People, People get your facts right. You all can't be that stupid.

  • @wompus111: Galland and all of the other members of the "Condor Legion" of the Spanish Civil War are lucky they escaped the hangman's noose or the firing squad.... they got off easy, considering all of the suffering they inflicted in the name of a genocidal madman.

  • Galland is the coolest fighter ace in history

  • If the Schlitzaugen did a better Job, Germany would have got a ceasefire.

All among it was a stupid idea to build concentration camps, because the Jews were a productive part of society.

  • Glory to the Soviet soldier, glory to defenders of fatherland, glory to Russian spirit.

  • Don't forget, the Russians and the allied forces were all against Germany.

  • Don't forget, the Italian, Japan, Romania,Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Austria.......................... were all, against USSR and allied force!!!

  • So your a Nazi??

  • Why do you ask about this? I usually, a Russian man!

  • "Fatherland" is the term used by the Nazis in reference to Germany. Got nothing against Russians or Germans, but the Nazis can all suck on a howitzer.

  • Each person has his own fatherland (motherland). Мy motherland (fatherland) - Russia!!!

  • Fair enough man. No offence intended.

  • @drummer4theperish The Russians were with Germany until June 22, 1941 and on the Partition of Poland and NEVER gave any of it Back after the war. Playing both sides.

  • @kimba112104 That's only 1/3rd of the war. So they spent 4 years fighting the Nazis. Don't forget the financiers of both sides are still financing both sides of every conflict.

  • @mishanya84pol Russians call the homeland the Motherland not fatherland (Germany). Get your FACTS right. Please!! Reading all this junk people write about is all fantasy. Congratulations to those who get the facts( HISTORY Correct).

  • Слава советскому солдату, слава защитникам отечества,слава русскому духу.

  • The best Fighter-Ace EVER!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Submarine warfare , whether it is the Germans, or US, is the same. You sink your enemy...period. In time of war, merchant shipping isn't civilian, it's supplies to a combatant.

While the Germans WERE on the side of the aggressor, ya got to give credit to skill and competance. Do do otherwise is to underestimate your enemy, and that can be fatal. Not all Germans were Nazis. The Luftwaffe was the least Nazified branch of the German armed forces, and that can be factually verified.

  • I am sure that Navy had the same political views...

  • @NamVetBuck: Re: "The Luftwaffe was the least Nazified branch of the German armed forces, and that can be factually verified." Some would argue the Kreigsmarine or even the regular army (heer). Goering was innermost in Hitler's circle for a reason; he was committed Nazi until the very end. Care to name your sources? I'd like to know them...

  • @NamVetBuck Your facts are correct. But from the Germans point of view they would say defenders

  • Seems to me that German pilots flew with courage, but there are old pilots, or bold pilots, but the only old bold pilots had stars on thier planes...not swastikas.

  • That's true, but what seems to have been missed here is the fact that the Germans were the aggressors trying to rule the world. The allies were the defenders.

It annoys me to hear of 'heroic' German pilots who learnt thier skills bombing defenceless Spaniards. Just like the U Boat 'heros' who torpedoed defenceless merchant shipping and left the crews to drown. As to the Waffen SS...........

Germans who followed Hitler were no better than sheep.

  • They left the crew to drown because U-156 was almost blown out of the water the last time the conducted rescue operations.

  • jaja the americans are brave jaja god joke you make me laugh, say it to their victims in Irak.. but anyway i want to apologise for being rude with you,

  • Those "victims" are dead terrorists.

  • @vicman0608: Our political leaders are cowards and criminals, like politicians everywhere - but the average American should not be fooled with, unless you want a beating like you've never had in your life. The USMC says it best: "No better friend, no worse enemy"...

  • I do know historical facts. Eddie Rickenbacker was the holder of the Medal of Honor, the highest award available. Pilots like Galland were told to avoid American aces, as they would be shot down. The American pilots proved their superiority in every theater. That is why they won the war.

  • ok you said that you don't know historical facts so shut the fuck up. and the knight cross was the highest award in the luftwaffe, and that superiority that you name its because the german pilots where outnumber by the americans, have you ever read about the air raids of the americans over europe they where sending thousands of figthers and bombers agains a few german pilots. tha's why your loved americans won the war.

  • vicman. I do know something about history, and am not biased. The mere fact that you swear and insult says more about you than me. The Medal of Honor was the highest award given. It is very rare and only given for the highest acts of bravery. Americans are naturally brave. It is instilled in them with their mother's milk.

  • Well, thats new to me, the Russians say that they won the war. And , they were the ones that had actually destroyed the German military on the ground and in the Air from 1941, the US entered the was directly with Germany after D-Day,July 1944, by that time Germany had been well and truly finished off.Granted the US was in the Pacific theatre, also ,again, the Russians crushed the Japanese in Manchuria. Then of course there was the H-Bomb by the US.

  • The "Russians" called themselves Soviets in WW2. Let me make this clear. The United States of America and the American people won the Second World War. I agree that the Soviets did a remarkable job in helping crush the Japanese. I cannot see what the H-Bomb has to do with anything. It has a much relevance as the mobile telephone for WW2 - like none. When people think of famous battles, they think of Iwo Jima, Bastogne, Guadalcanal - all battles won by the US.

  • The H-Bomb is what was the final straw for the Japanese, also the Russians had inflicted huge losses on the Japanese Army in Manchuria from where most of the Japanese supplies were coming from.(Chinese labour in manufacturing Munitions.)There is no way without the use of the H-Bomb that the Japanase would have surrendered, wars are won on the ground, Japanese on their home territory would have been unbeatable, a bit like Vietnam with the Viet-cong and AK-47. Al -Queda in Afghan and Stingers

  • @brendonnz1964: Estimates by different authorities vary greatly, but it is probably safe to say that Operation Downfall, the planned amphibious invasion of Japan, would have cost upwards of one million lives, Japanese as well as Allied. Viewed in this light, as horrific the toll of the atomic bombs were, they were the better alternative. Truman made the right call under tough circumstances.

  • @brendonnz1964 The Russians did not detonate a H-bomb until Aug. 12, 1953. The Americans had used the A-bomb against the Japs. Get your facts right!!!!!! PLEASE these comments suck to read.

  • the atom bomb is the funeral pyre of an enemy already drowning. if there was ever an island ever surrounded, it was the case of japan. they were surrounded by submarines. and when thinking of battles, well one of the great battle is the battle of stalingrad. the battle of midway was the runing point in the pacific, but the encounter in leyte gulf spell death of the IJN

  • @swanningaround: The allied victory was a joint effort. While it is true that the allied powers might not have prevailed without America in the fight, it is equally true that the Soviet army broke the back of Germany's ability to wage land warfare. The Russian soldier killed 7 of every 10 German soldiers killed in the war. The USSR would have surrendered without the Anglo-American victory in the Battle of the Atlantic. No Britain, possibly no victory in that key theater.

  • @GeorgiaBoy1961 Once Germany attacked Russia it was over for Germany. 2 front war. Napoleon lost in Russia so did Hitler. If Germany Never attacked Russian, Germany would/could have won the war. Russia was too big. Germany had not long range bombers to hit the new Russian Factories east of the Ural mountains. So T-34 tanks were made in the thousands (23000), with no chance of German bombing. The USSR would've never surrendered.

  • @kimba112104: The two biggest strategic blunders by Germany, apart from misjudging Allied intend upon the invasion of Poland, were Hitler's invasion of the USSR, which you note, and declaring war on the U.S.A. after Pearl Harbor. Germany was an incipient economic and military superpower in 1939, but didn't possess the means to defeat the U.S. If we'd stayed out of the European war, Hitler probably could have compelled the U.K. to sue for peace. Herr Hitler was his own woprst enemy.

  • @swanningaround: Without the allied air war over Germany, the resources deployed to defend the Reich could have been redeployed to the east to defeat the USSR. Without strategic bombing, the Germans might have produced enough gas and oil to continue fighting. And so on.... it is all interrelated.

  • @brendonnz1964 US and British policy was let the Dictators fight it out and the US and UK would mop up. We underestimated the Russians military fighting ability. The Russians broke the non-aggression pact Aug. 8, 1945. All for a land grab.

  • The Allies won the war because the Wehrmacht was extremely outnumbered and outproduced.

Alone the Red Army fielded a total of 34.5 million soldiers during WW2, the Wehrmacht had only 18.2 millions during the time from 1935 to 1945.

The war was basically lost in the east, as the Wehrmacht couldn't win a war in the long run against the masses of Soviet soldiers and tanks.

No battle in the west can be compared to Kursk, Stalingrad, Bagration and co.

  • Hinger. The war against Japan was as important as the one against Germany. Japan had been fighting longer before Germany started.

  • In the Pacific basically the same can be said Japan simply couldn't compete with the industrial output of the USA and co.

During WW2 the Allies outproduced the Axis in most categories more than 4 to 1, with a few exceptions like submarines as due to the supremacy of the Royal Navy's surface fleet the Kriegsmarine had to rely on submarines.

  • Yes I know Japan was at war with China since 1937 and in 1940 invaded French Indochina (=Vietnam), as a result the USA, UK and the Dutch established an embargo, running out of oil (through the embargo Japan lost 90% of its oil imports) Japan attacked the Dutch East Indies, Pearl Harbor and co. to gain access to natural ressources (mainly oil) and to gain the hegemony in the region.

  • HingerlAlois. I can't dispute your analysis. Well said!

  • Thx.

  • @HingerlAlois Also Roosevelt, embargoed any sales aviation fuels, steel & scrap metals to Japan in Sept. 1940.

  • @HingerlAlois Why did they started the war ? By mistake ?

  • @trzcinarowice

Who? Hitler? He gambled and lost, when he attacked Poland he was convinced that Chamberlain wouldn't dare to go to war and that the French wouldn't act without the Brits.

  • @HingerlAlois ..,and both nazi germany and soviet union were 'BFF' allies joined together thru the Ribbentropp Molotov Pact signed in 1939'. They even invaded Poland together! Since 1922' both germany and the soviet union exchanged military attaches, and conducted joint military excercises. The soviet union even supplied vital resources up to the day they got 'cockblocked' by nazi germany in 1941'. The war was basically lost because nazi germany was 'epic fail' economy. gtfoh assclown.

  • @fluffy1931 "bff" really.....you're using twit lexicon jargon shite for what was going to be an astute explaination? spare us from the overtheatrical bull! & the profanity.....mein gott

  • @JRussoBuffaloNY ..,and go fuck yourself sideways assclown.

  • @fluffy1931 I have no I dea what you just typed,absurd rubbish & nonsense.

  • @fluffy1931 "epic fail" for when saying four syllables is just too tiresome. LOL enjoy

  • @fluffy1931 No, because Hitler had a 2 front war. War with Russia doomed Germany. Remember Napoleon???

  • @kimba112104 lol,..remember the Molotov Ribbentropp Pact, dude. In 1939' both Nazi Germany & Soviet Union signed a military alliance that besides carving eastern europe into spheres of influence both invaded Poland together just like 'BFFs[.

    pls gtfoh

  • @HingerlAlois bad strategy lost the war. if you have a battle going on don't split your forces up and attack the other direction when there is no threat.

  • @HingerlAlois: Re: "No battle in the west can be compared to Kursk, Stalingrad, Bagration and co." The ostfront battles were the largest land battles in human history, and are likely to remain so. However, nothing tops the Pacific Theater for warfare waged over vast distances, mostly at sea. The PTO was the largest theater of war in human history. No nation then on earth, except the USA, was capable of waging war over such vast distances, with such long supply lines and vast area.

  • @HingerlAlois You are ABSOLUTELY correct. The Russian battles far out classed any in the west.

  • @swanningaround Was it the Pilot or the planes. The Americans had the best operational planes. That makes a pilot good. The Germans had the Greatest Aces of all, and sometimes had poorer planes. P51's still got shot down by Germans ME109's. Keep in mind that Germans pilots never rotated out of the war, US pilots had 12-18 months then were out. Germans 6 yrs. Best planes US, Best ideas(Technology) Germans.

  • @kimba112104: You've hit upon an important factor in why the Allies prevailed in the air war - training replacement pilots. Germany and Japan had elite air forces at the start of the war, but lost most of them via attrition in years of heavy combat. The allies, on the other hand, rotated combat-experienced flyers out of battle and to the rear to train new pilots. This had a force multiplier effect that Japan and Germany missed.

  • @kimba112104: Having a high performance aircraft superior to your enemy's is very important, but pilot skill and experience are every bit as vital, if not more so. That's not me talking, that's General Chuck Yeager in his autobiography. Germany wasn't unique in developing advanced fighter aircraft, jets... the Americans, British and Japanese all had advanced designs either in production or on the drawing board. Germany chose to devote more engineering and tech. resources to them.

  • @GeorgiaBoy1961 But we the US are using German WW2 Technology today, not British or Japanese. Just think if the war lasted a few more years or if D-day failed.

  • @kimba112104: Operation Paperclip was the concerted effort by the U.S. to bring as many surrendering Nazi scientists into American captivity as possible. Among these were Werner Von Braun, one of the fathers of the American space program. We also used much of the German research on swept-wing design, and other matters. It is a good thing that we won the war before Hitler's atomic bomb program developed a nuclear warhead for the V-2/V-3 series of ballistic missiles, no question.

  • @GeorgiaBoy1961 lol,..Germany did not have anything close to a atomic bomb program and never even managed to construct a working nuclear reactor prior or during ww2. Neither V-2 with a warhead payload of just 1,000 kg would not be able to carry any nuclear warhead of that period. The V-3 was a canon with a (140 kg) shell which could only hit London from 2 prepared bunkers in Pas-de-Calais region of northern France, both were bombed rendered useless as early as 1944'.

  • @fluffy1931: It is a controversial issue, the German atomic bomb programme. The Allies were concerned about it enough to mount a series of very risky missions to destroy the Norsk Hydro heavy water plant at Vermork, and the SOE were worried enough to smuggle Niels Bohr out of Denmark. Given the German's excellent scientific and technical skills, it is possible they could have gotten the bomb first if the allies hadn't taken action to prevent it.

  • re: "German's" = typo, sorry for the error, it is late.

  • @fluffy1931: Regarding the V-3, that would have been the follow-on to the V-2, but with longer range and bigger payload. Yes, it is a stretch to believe that Germany would have been able to make a nuke light-enough to go onto one of their ballistic missiles, but then again, we can only know what happened, not what might have occurred if conditions were different. Be smug if you prefer, but I'm just happy it didn't work out that way... an atomic weapon in the hands of a madman.

  • @GeorgiaBoy1961 lol,..the V-3 was a cannon dude. Take a another look at the A-4.

It was a stretch that Germany couldn't even manage to construct a working nuclear reactor.
