In my opinion, the best affordable red lipstick on the market is Revlon's Super Lustrous Lipstick in "Fire and Ice". It's a classic bright red, and the application is very thick and creamy. (Bonus: If you blot it after you put it on, it'll last a very long time- even if you drink or eat!)
@MissGoldenDreams13 I've been wearing that particular shade a lot since the beginning of the year and love it! Though I find it a bit bright for me every day (but I'm super pale, so that plays into it! ;). But still it's great!
I didn't read all of the comments but I do agree with the general consensus that the look is really cute. As for feedback on camera quality I did notice the picture was much clearer than in the older videos. I tried your easy braided updo today. My hair is a bit shorter than yours so I had to modify it a little. It worked though and as for wispies I ended up with more that enough thanks to the rain. Next time I try it I will see if I can get someone to take a picture so you can see the resu
Do you have tips about applying vintage-style makeup on hot, humid days? I want to look polished, but it gets so disgusting here in Taipei (something like 88 celsius, 100 percent humidity). I'm sure summers are just as muggy in Florida!
@stcatherine I haven't found a "perfect" way to keep things looking nice when it's hot and humid, but have been contemplating looking into something like an all-over face primer for days I need to keep things looking good for a long period of time. For a spot-specific solution, I found that Urban Decay's Primer Potion worked amazingly well at keeping my eye makeup in place during the summer! Most days though, I have to admit, I just keep my fingers crossed that it doesn't look too bad! ;)
Casey, this look is truly beautiful. So classic and elegant!
Ii was just wondering, as for store-bought items, do you have any idea where to shop for classic a-line dresses and generally timeless beautiful clothes?
@ashers303 I'd recommend trying places like ModCloth, Trashy Diva, Babygirl Boutique, Ruche, etc. for vintage inspired pieces. Some of these places you have to dig a little, but many of them have those classic styles that evoke a timeless look! :)
you are so classically beautiful!! i have been wanting to try Russian Red but, i'm worried it might be too ' blue' on my skin tone.. any recommendations?
@mineraljunkie I would highly recommend going to the MAC counter and having one of the makeup artists help select a red that works with your skin tone. There are several other popular shades of MAC red within the vintage community (Ruby Woo comes to mind), and I've found it really helpful in the past to go consult with one of the assistants at the MAC store/counter! :)
@alexinwonderland5393 The liquid liner I mentioned in the description box (MAC Liquidlast) is my favorite. I've tried quite a few over the years, from liquid with a felt tip applicator, to gel with a brush and straight-up liquid with a brush. The one I'm using now is a brush-on, but I really like the formulation and that it lasts FOREVER once it dries. Which means this summer I won't suffer from raccoon eyes! ;)
@strawberryfields488: If you're going for a 1950's look with your lipstick, hot pink, coral, peach, and (believe it or not) orange were all popular colors used then.
@elegantlyamused: I LOVE NYX LIPLINERS! Which one did you use in this video? (P.S. Did anyone ever tell you that you look like Gene Tierney? Every time I see one of your videos I am astonished by the resemblance you have toasted her.)
@MissGoldenDreams13 Aw... Thank you--that so made my day! Gene is one of my style inspirations. ;) The NYX liner is #817 Hot Red. It's pretty good, although I have to say I prefer the creaminess of the MAC liners. But for the price it works for me! :D
@americanchld I haven't tried Benefit yet, mostly because I'm on a pretty small budget for cosmetics and tend to mostly save my "splurges" for more MAC. lol. But I want to try a few of their products eventually!
I love the look! I was actually thinking "Wow, I really love the red lipstick color" and I was excited when I found out it was MAC Russian Red because I have that color!! :-) I've only worn it for night time but now I'm inspired to try it for a day time look with a simple, clean eye. Thank you!
@luvmyhair2 Be sure to check the rest o my channel for some super easy and simple everyday looks. The majority of the hairstyles I show are super easy as I don't like to fuss too much with my hair. lol. I'll be uploading a tutorial on the hairstyle I showed in this video next week, btw! :)
You're so pretty! I don't wear vintage makeup everyday, but occasionally I will be in the mood and your videos always come to mind when I'm trying to achieve that look. :)
I love the fact that you use everyday makeup products, not just high end products that the simple on a budget girl cant afford. I've always faired well with basic drug store products to achieve my vintage looks..thanks for being an everyday girl..cant wait for more videos!
@VintageBlonde007 Using less expensive products is very important to me. Not only because I tend to buy my makeup on a budget, but also because I know there are lots of other gals who don't have the extra money to buy high-end cosmetics too! :)
Thanks so much for the video :) It will be nice to have a quick to do vintage look like this! I love red lips, but are there any other colors that were very commonly worn in the 40s-60s that would also be vintage? (sometimes I feel a bit self-conscious with the super red lips) Thank you!
"vintage" is sort of my go-to look when I'm in a hurry. I can whip out a solid color eyeshadow and winged eyeliner in a flash and wait to put the lipstick on until I get to work. thanks for the vid. you're so pretty you're just fun to watch!
Lovely! I love quick makeup looks that look so great and put together. Thank you. ^_^ Also, I was wondering where you can find the ELF eyebrow pencil?
@luckygreenclover25 Just to keep it simple! Blush would be very appropriate for the 40s/50s, but unless you're super pale, I think most women can skip it for a daily look if using a light/sheer foundation. :)
Oh, I have a question about the red lips! I don't think I'm quiiiite brave enough to do a red lip in public YET, I'm getting there. But in the mean time what can I use that will also give off the vintage vibe?
@glimmerific I've been meaning to do a video on the different shades of lipstick I use that have a vintage look to them for a bit. ;) But I would highly recommend going for a classic shade of coral (Revlon's matte range has a great coral). It's very 40s/50s but tends to be a bit less "pow!" than red. A medium pink would also work.
@glimmerific I had the same problem! I used Soap and Glory's marvelips pencil, i cant think of how to explain its colour though :/ its probably a nude rose, if that makes sense...
@glimmerific The Revlon Matte coral is called Smoked Peach, #013. I've been wearing it every day since I got it. I just love the colour! Also, if you sort of rub in a little colour to get a stain, that's another great way to work up to full strength red. That's something my gramma still does, actually.
