What is with the people who say that when someone gets paid, they have no desire and burn to do this? What is that talk? Are my fellow volunteers disrespecting the paid firefighters? Please. Please do not do that, they are our people too.
@pomppa85 i agree...i'm not a jr.volly yet but i hope to be when i turn 14....but lets put it into perspective...a firefighter might make around 30 to 50 thousand a year...not a lot..but yet a pharmicist makes 120 thousand a year to hand pills to someone that might have been saved by a payed firefighter....they still do it for a passion too...
I respect these men and the job they do BUT, their UNIONS are crooked and they are STEALING from everyone else. These men have NO HONOR or they would not be a part of it. For example, in BOSTON the AVERAGE compensation is over $100k, not including pensions over $60k/year. Plus their pensions are not fully funded so they will take whatever additional they need from those making minimum wage. This is why the country is going BROKE and there are almost NO JOBS. WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!!!
@BrainStormTV1 so the country is going broke because they are paying the men and women who are saving you and your property, it couldn't be that it take a million dollars per prisoner per year to keep a prisoner in prison, but no it is because we are trying to save the people who need us
@ruskinedwards It costs about $29,000 / year per prisoner (national ave). See, this is the reason the pay is out-of-whack. No doubt these guys deserve our thanks, appreciation and respect. That doesn't mean they deserve 50k+ a year. But you can't have an honest discussion about it because it's not PC. Most of these guys are not very educated, don't do a lot of work half the time and then 10% of the time it's balls-to-the-wall. Regardless of anyone of that, the free market should set their pay.
@derekHSmith That doesn't mean 50k+ a year? Get real, you can't even support a family on 50k let alone with a job that exposes you to as many health risks as this does. My department only serves 60,000 people yet almost every single one of our 112 firefighters has a fire science degree, all are certified EMT's, half are nationally certified paramedics, and all went through the state fire academy. We have our 8am-5pm workdays on our 24's not to mention night calls. This is typical of career.
@derekHSmith What i'm getting at is that you're obviously not very educated, and don't do a lot of work in knowing anything about what you're talking about.
@derekHSmith most paid firefighters are well educated did u know that a regular firefighter has to do over 300 hours of training just for the basics and if they want to go deeper in their education then your looking at for a pump operator it is 175 hours of training most of the paid firefighter have a 2 year degree in fire science
@BrainStormTV1 THIS IS HIS BROTHER YEA IS THE FIREFIGHTERS ITS NOT THE TRILLIONS IN BAIL OUT THAT OBAMA SPENT OR THE BANKS LOAN PEOPLE MONEY WHO CANT AFFORD A TRAILER ..... be really man the problems with this country are becuz of dumbass like u !!1 :)
you guys are heroes without capes, angels without wings, and salvation without a halo. thank you for your courage and guts to save people like me who have been on the other side of the house you were running into.
Nice job on this video! Im a firefighter from San Jose cal. Thank you for posting what we see and do. Here in California we do alot of medic calls aswell. We are not heroes. We just do what needs to be done. Im scared everytime I see the red glow in the night time sky but you do your job and remember your training. Everything else works its way out on its own.
well the worst accident i seen was when i was running down in virginia we got hit out for a 5 car pile up we got on scene and we had 3 trapped we got two out no problem but the last sufferd big time we cut the door open and pulled her out her leg was just haging there was blood everywhere i was pretty messed up
as for fires the worst that's been for our department was in a city there was a house that was fully involved with 3 people trapped inside. one of our memebers was pretty badly burned from a flash over trying to get the last person out who was an older guy. the victim died and the firefighter was in the hosptial for 3 weeks
yeah we get alot of bad accidents and fires its like eveerytime you turn around you get hit out for a intrapment or and fully invovled house fire, we runn alot
yea whats really annoying here in CT is we have alot of big hills, and when theres those tiny little brush fires thats just something smoking in the forest we gotta run up the hills with a hose in full gear. that gets so tiring. what do you do, (engineer, search and rescue, cheif)?
well im the kind of person who does a lil bit of everything,it dont really matter wat i do search and rescue,or if im on the nozzle or in command as long as the job gets done without anyone hurt,in DE im a Firefighter and in VA i was a Rescue Captain but now im a Firefighter/Assitant Engineer
yea i guess im kinda the same way. im 2nd luitenat and search and rescue but ive been on nozzle. i remember one of the first calls i went on there was a pressurized tank and i didnt get the end of the hose put in all the way so when they tried to get water out the house came out and smacked me in the face.
i bet that fucking hurt haha one time i was backing up this new kid in training and the fucker let go of the hose shit i me right in the head boy was i mad lol
yeah thats the same for our trucks except we also carry 1 inch just because we have alot of small brush fires up here and we don't need that much water for them. do you guys use air compressed foam?
haha i almost rolled our brush truck once. we're just now starting with foam and we had a drill/demo with it about a week ago and its amazing how much more effective it is compared to water.
i no right lol dude once me and my friend feel asleep in our engine on the way to a call dude everyone was beat that morning it was like 230 man lol but it was funny
haha last week we had our 70th aniversary parties. and every time we have a party theres a list of people that are supposed to stay sober just incase theres a call, but they forgot to post the list this time and everybody was drunk out of their mind, luckliy there was no call though.
lol hahah we had ours last april it was great we didnt have to worry about calls cause we had 2 different stations covering us so everyone was lit lol
fire wise i seen alot of fires alot of bad ones id have to say that the worst situation i was in was were one of our boys got trapped but thank god we got him out it was fully involved big time thing collapsed 2 min after we got him out but it all turned out well wat about you?
the worst car accident i've seen is on I 84 a big rig trailor hit this small toyota that was driven by a 34 year old and his fiance. the man was killed when his head smashed into the windsheild but the fiance was unharmed. it was very sad and the driver of the big rig ran from the scene.
Very motivational to a guy striving to achieve the greatest accomplishment.....that of becoming a firefighter. Thank you, for all that you do and thank you for the video.
Hell yea there is. i always get a rush speeding to get my gear on and racing to the truck and the feeling of being in a smoke filled building can't be matched to anything else
