I love this song.. I remember it being the sign off for one of the networks.. his nephew was in a great band called the Lincolns in the 80's, a family of talent!!
What about a train that takes us from the airport to the city centre? C'mon!!! Get it together!! Im'surprised they didn't make one when this song came out.
You're all missing the point. I grew up in Toronto and left in 1975 to the suburbs and haven't been back since - nor would I want to ! Toronto was a completely different place in the 1960's and 1970's, when this video and song were made - safe, clean and dare I say it ... respectable. Those days are long gone but this video and especially the song, bring back wonderful memories of Bloor Collegiate and a quiet life in the west end - forever gone.
@chachameister You have no idea what you are talking about, sorry.. Toronto is a fantastic city..you can have the sleepy burbs.. roll over now and let me rub your back and raise your taxes.
I'd call you a stupid fucking ignorant cum-receptacle......but that would certainly be an insult to hard working cum-receptacles the world over.
Dont be disgruntled just because in the preeminent position as "employee79", your day involves the momentous task of moving Widget A from Table B to Table C in Factory D, Building E.
re: Crime, people REALLY need to compare crime stats with similar or even smaller sized cities around the globe (and even in Canada) before they complain! Seriously!
The original People City video is now online at my channel danalee1000. Both versions are there - the vocal sign-on version, and the somewhat rare instrumental sign-off version. Enjoy!
I remember hearing this song every now and then on weekday mornings, as i was getting myself ready to go to high school...after the sign-in finished there was Rocket Robinhood...lol
It's too bad you don't have the original clip of Toronto in 1973. I hope it can be found and played ... uhhh .... are you listening people at CITY TV ??? Oh ... whatever happened to Chuck the security guard ?
The problem is most of you people have never been anywhere. ive spent time in many cities in n. america, nyc, chicago, atlanta, la. People in Toronto dont know how good they have it.Sure the city has lost its charm as its grown and become a megacity but that will happen to any place. And as for crime. Go spend some time in Chicago, and then bitch about Torontos crime. Great shots of the princes gates, harbourfront, toronto island and the flatiron building. Retrontario always shows the best stuff
I agree. With the quality of life Toronto offers, it's actually a little better than some cities of comparable size. Yeah, there's crime, but like you said, Toronto has advantages over other North American cities.
Knew the song, didn't realize that it was Tommy Ambrose. Love the shot of the Centre Island wharf/pier. Toronto when it still had a touch of innocence to it.
Toronto's not so much a people city these days, but this is a great video. Retrontario, you made this? Very cool.
The shot of overhead King and Bay with the still-constructed Scotia Plaza reminds me of the opening or closing sequence to the CFTO show "Eye on Toronto" - do you happen to have any of these clips?
i live in Oshawa. just East of Toronto. Toronto has got way to violent & Overpopulated so I would'nt want to live there. On Friday some pshchopathic Fucker pushed 3 teenaged boys in front of a train at Union Station 1 kept his balence but the other 2 fell on the tracks. 1 of them almost lost all his toes on 1 foot.
Go back to Winnipeg.

oh, is that an abandoned building and a bum's chair at around the 0:24 mark?! How bizzare, not a very tourist oriented video.

The music was produced in the seventies and was orchestrated by norman amadio (sic).
The lyric version is sung by Tommy as indicated.
I thought someone here would have an old clip of the City TV signoffs.
I also would love to see it again.
Come on city people, fuck moses and sneak a clip onto here.
