  • I'm a film/tv freshman and DIY filmamaker, I couldn't enter because I'm underage but watch my films!!! and criticize to death!!!!

  • Out of the top 3, i think that Lacos got the place it deserved, but i think the other two should have switched. my personal opinion anyways.

  • great

  • Hi I'm an auteur-filmaker -DIY kind of independent-amateur

producer of things, I like what you do and thanks for the opportunity and platform to showcase ignored alternative talent!!!! Enjoy !!!

  • Hey Project Direct,

I just had a look at the top 3 and I can't really believe it.

Gone In a Flash is top 3 material, but i'm not sure about Lacos???

I guess it was a contest and anything can happen.

I think Bobbing For Apples should have at least placed in the top 3.

Thanks for the opportunity, and we'll see you all next year.

  • Just a friendly reminder to all that voting ends today, December 2nd, at 1PM EST. Good luck!

  • this projects is very criative..

  • As the voting on Project Direct nears its end, can I just thank anyone who has voted for 'Three's a Crowd.' My sons and my nephew (average age of 12) who wrote and acted the whole thing in about 3 hours have had a blast just being selected for the final 20. Thanks to anyone who said anything positive to encourage the possible film makers of the future!! (Just in case anyone is wondering, the director/ cameraman was well over 18!)

  • There's some strange. Plumbing has more than 50.000 views at the page of the contest, and less than 10.000 on your own page. Other films have much more views on their own page, and less than Plumbing where we vote. Somone can explaine this?

  • Yeah. The views on Voting page and in the own page... are something weird in some entries. Hope there's nothing wrong with it...

  • I guess the in youtube are directing films and projects with macs? It looks like

  • I wish I could've made an entry for this contest...especially with the equipment the contestants had to made the film. I think my style wouldn't been intense and captivating for the viewer. I'm still in school, but I do believe I would've done very good in the competition. Too bad. Maybe next time.

  • Watch stavros333 channel to learn the facts

The truth about the Mormon guy is too important to overlook, This man is a cultist and believes the following:

    1. God had sex with mary

    2. Jesus and Satan are brothers

    3. Blacks are born black as a curse for their lack of valiancy in the heavenly war against God

4.Baptizes dead generations to convert them into mormon including Jews

    5. Sex with Gods and celestial virgins to populate planets and you want this mad man for President.. H-LL NO!!!

  • why are only those countries allowed to participate?

  • I know your face but I can't place it..

  • Where's my comment? Filtered my comment?? wow great job..

  • Where the heck do I go to see the 20 videos?? Very unclear about it... wow, great directing.

  • Go to the right where it says "More From: projectdirect"

  • Oh my bad, that's just the translations.

  • Oh my bad. That's just the translations.

  • Just go to the Project Direct channel and you'll see all the finalists

  • When you go to the Project Direct channel, all you see is this same video in 12 different languages. Where are the "final entries" he talks about???????????????????????

  • Click on Vote to watch and vote on the videos

  • I didn't say it. i'm Hungarien.

  • Im sorry but I don't understand. Why does one need a movie contest? Why can't they just make a movie and let the it air on its own?

  • 3. The Title - looks great - honest scrip

    4. Gone In A Flash - I think this could be the best looking film in the group, but its lacking in story and pace. The HVX and 35mm adapter give it a film look but that won't save the entire film.

    5. Plumbing - just kidding!

    5. The Title - you can just tell these people knew what they were doing.

Many of the other films have too much going on. A short film isn't a feature.

  • My first choice is

    1. "Bobbing For Apples".

I think the script is great, it raps the 3 elements together very nicely.

It feels like the only finalist that used real actors instead of "hey, can you be in my movie this weekend"

And I think technically and visually its beautiful.. very good.

    2. My Name is Lisa

I think the idea is great.

I think the acting is probably 2nd place.

    And its pretty tight audio/visually

  • Hey everybody. I've watched all the finalists. And I've narrowed it down to 3.

I'm wondering what you think is the best??

Lets make this an area where we post serious reasons why some of the finalists should win.

  • Well, that was clear as mud.

  • haha, well, I did sound a little bi-polar.

Basically what I was trying to say is I think You Tube is great, I think the contest was a very good idea and there were many many great submissions. However, I think they could do a much better job executing how the contest is run and the voting process and the support given to those who have questions. And I think they should promote the contest other than having it on the main page the day voting started and that's it.

  • Instead this is a campaign and the winner will be the person who promotes their film the best and begs the most people to watch and vote. Plus one could create as many accts as they can dream up emails. You Tube is great and is changing the face of entertainment. Please do this contest and others like it in the future. Put me on your payroll, I'll come with a better voting process and will answer questions as quickly as they deserve. Sorry to be so cynical, it's a good contest, really. :)

  • Why does it take so long to have questions answered?

Why is the voting process so unclear?

Why is it so hard to find the videos? I submitted a video and had a hard time finding them, how is anyone that hasn't heard about the contest supposed to find them? There were some great submissions to this contest, I feel that there should be, at the least, a small banner on the front page of You Tube so general users can take notice and they can cast their votes as well

  • Voting has been clarified a number of times - one vote per video per user per day.

All finalists are on the Project Direct channel.

There is a banner on the home page and ads and features all over the site.

Entries that did not make the finals will be presented in a gallery after the winner is announced, as it states on the channel and in the FAQs.

    Thanks.

  • Hi. Thank you for the quick response. You also said you don't have to login to your account to vote, so how do you know who is voting? If you limit it to 1 vote per IP address, then that's not exactly 1 per user as I could vote once from all 50 computers here at work per day.

I'm glad there's a banner on the front page, didn't see that before if it was there.

Again, good contest, I just dislike the way the winner of the top 20 is chosen.

  • First of all, great films, great idea for a contest, please do it again. However, I have to say I'm a little disappointed with the execution of Project Direct.

You Tube, You guys have tons of money, there is no reason for a contest of this magnitude to be so seemingly unprepared.

  • So I'm pretty dense, but where are these videos to watch? I can't find them... I sure hope you included Project X and Cataclysmo. Those guys rock!

  • Visit the Project Direct channel to view the finalists

  • So, does every IP address get one vote per day or every user get one vote per day?

    thanks for clarifying.

  • We really can't comment on the specifics - for your benefit; please just do your part to vote once for each video each day and we'll make sure the system is fair.

  • Great contest! "My name is Lisa" is so beatiful. "Empty arms" too. "Laços" is wonderful. I'm proud of my country.

  • SHIT!!! claro son los únicos paises que exiten....

  • Someone just asked a question about whether you have to be logged in to vote, but the question disappeared. In any event, the answer is no; you do not need to be logged in to vote.

  • So how do you know whether a user votes more than once? My husband and I both have accounts but use the same computer. Does that mean only one of our votes counts?

  • Hope this will clear up some of the voting questions:

You can click thumb's up/down as many times as you like, but we are only counting one vote per video per user per day.

  • It's a tough call, but my vote is for "Bobbing for Apples".

  • yeah, 1/2 my cast was in like that, the other half were in and out of it. But thanks, that sure is a way to think of things and asking people.

  • where do u go to view the top 20 and will Jason Reitman or colleague let people who sumited let them know how close or far they came to being nominated?Im soooo confused.,..any help thanx guys

  • this is so difficult.

now having watched all of the films, i think 'my name is lisa' deserves to win. it made me cry. though close second is between 29 grullas and bobbing for apples...or gone in a flash..

  • oh you must not have seen 'the title'

  • official rules :"Registered YouTube members will have the opportunity to critically evaluate and vote on their choice three entries daily during the Member Voting period.Instructions for using the Project Direct Voting Tool will be provided. Limit three Voting Tool uses per registered YouTube member account per day. A "Day" is defined as a series of 24-hour periods during the Member voting period" This suggests that you can vote for the same movie up to 3 times in 24 hours.

  • But again, how is it being monitored? I'm sure others are finding that you can vote more than 3 times - endlessly actually. I'm curious about how they tally this, and also how the public might know who's in the lead. Does the view count mean anything?

  • The enourmous difference of views between 'plumbing' and the others makes it clear that the system is not being properly monitored.

  • Having witnessed the fiasco that a similar competition run by a certain Pop Star decended into (hacking the system and all sorts!) my preference would be only 3 votes per user full stop (3 points for first choice etc. Failing that, the system used by the judges (marks awarded out of 25 for various criteria) seems preferable to this incomprehensible 'thumbs up thumbs down' thing. Sorry for ranting!!

  • I am glad there are other people confused on here! I feel like its almost a popularity contest - or the film with the most computer knowledge is somehow getting thousands more hits then the rest - but I dont know how that is possible! I just want to say that I beleive that they will run this contest fairly, they must be able to see if people are scamming the system!

  • yes, PLEASE.... clarify this voting process. especially the whole thumbs down thing? if people vote thumbs down, will that actually cancel out points?? if so... what's the point of that?? people who have nothing better to do could just sit around and negative vote people who may actually deserve to win.

  • Could a representative from ProjectDirect please comment on the bizarre voting procedure? How are you controlling all the repeat votes? Could a competing member just vote for themselves all day long? Also, Jasmanda2007's comment below is a good one... any answers?

  • I like the idea!

  • Just a query - why has the voting banner all but disappeared from the homepage after just one day. Surely if this is really to be a worldwide vote, a more visible link should remain on the homepage (even in a smaller form) until voting ends?

  • "ready to mate"....should have made your top 20...HELLO!

  • "ready to mate"...should have made top 20.....HELLO!

  • How do you know if you're actually voting. It turns green, but there's a little zero by all of them. If that's how to wote then can you only vote three times cuz it's not limiting me.

  • I'd really like this question answered too. How can you possibly monitor the winner accurately if one can continually vote?

  • whoa kool what is this?

  • where do we vote??

  • you have to click the small vote tab on the project Direct's module on project direct's youtube page.

  • i didnt even know this was going on! lol

  • is a vote put in by simply clicking the thumbs up and thumbs down? or am i missing something?

  • thats how to vote. Most youtube contests are like that (i wish it was out of 10)

  • I think it's is EXTREMELY unfair for the 21st and 22nd picks, since it seems two of the top 20 have been pulled by their owners and are no longer available.

  • hhhmmmm and where do you watch them ??????????

  • and WHO chose that 20 best directors? Why is it always GoogleTube pimping someone showing they're the best? If I want media pimps, I'd watch TV.

  • oh my goodness for the LIFE of me i cannot find the top 20!!

  • Tiffany,

go to youtube/projectdirect and then above the video there are two small buttons, one says "Home" the other says "Vote", it also says "Vote Now" in big letters under it and has an arrow pointing to it. Click on the "Vote" button to watch the videos...

  • wait, is the showcase that's coming up a top 200 or ALL the videos? I can never seem to find my way back to the pages where I thought I read things...

  • I figured "CHAD CAN KILL" and a few others were going to make it..but, oh well. Good luck to those who made it!! Damn, I should have made one.

  • i think more than half of all international films submitted made it to the finals...note to self make a film with subtitles next time around (at least no one will care about sound when they're too busy reading).

Vote American...Vote Often...j/k...we're all citizens of the world because of cinema...good luck finalists!

  • 29 grullas should win hands down.

    it's fantastic.

thanks for letting me and my bestfriend be a part of this, we made our film -taking chances- in four days, from idea to execution and we're proud of what we did.

    good luck everyone.

  • Thanks to all of you who made such awesome films! We were truly blown away and our expert judging panel had a really hard time narrowing down to 20. Congratulations to all of you on an outstanding inaugural Project Direct!

  • Good luck to all the finalists! I don't know about everyone else but I had a blast making my film "A Day in the Life of a ZOMBIE!!" Everyone did a fine job making interesting films and met the deadline. Congrats to everyone who entered!

  • I know how you feel Tiffany. I feel the same way about my short "This Time." It hurts, but I guess that's show business. I am still very proud of my cast and crew.

  • when we add or change something, the upgrade takes time... the youtube says about 6 hours, but I can see the changes on my page. maybe its not Updated here?

  • is it just me or does the video "Natalie" submitted November 10, 2007 when the deadline was Nov 9th? and it made it in the top 20 submitted a day later than everyone else?

  • On the main page, click the small VOTE button above the BIG VOTE NOW button to see the videos!!

  • is near the big cock into the small pussy isn't it?

  • ahhh...sure Tom...funny guy..wow!

  • You must close your eyes strongly and say "i want to see the videos" 3 times... videos will not apear but yo wont see this fucking video another time... Better....

  • They are Delayed

  • i am so bummed....i totally forgot about the part where you would be notified a couple of days ago. had my hopes up for my short, Little Pumpkin. Good luck to the finalists if we ever find out who they are:)

  • The videos are up...you have to go to the main page and click VOTE to watch them!

  • i dont see the vote button

  • i tried it but didn't see the vote link

  • how?

  • k kabron xD

  • WHERE THE HELL ARE THE FILMS?

  • I think that is what the official rules said.

  • yes, it says u would of received a call or email by nov 21.

  • where are the official rules

  • Where are the finalist!!!???

    How can we vote???

  • Don't the top twenty (actually 30) already know that they made the cut?

  • Says so in the rules... pretty sure the lawyers wouldn't post the videos without all the paperwork signed first.

  • where are the videos?

  • where are the videos?

  • dv stanno i video da vedere?

  • I hate those things...

  • Hi all - thanks so much for your patience, the videos will be up momentarily. We apologize for the confusion and hope you enjoy the films!

  • gerede

  • ok who else keep checking back to see if their film made the cut? even though its still a few hours before they said they'll be up.

  • I'll raise my hand to that. It would be nice if they put up the video after posting the list...

  • posting the list?

  • what do you mean they posted the list??

  • I'm headed out to the movies to get away from the computer.

  • where are the 20 videos?

  • where r the films

  • Good luck to all fellow filmmakers!

  • i can't dind the top twenty.

    good luck to everyone. :)

  • cool!!

  • In response to the 'afford better actors' comment from EONZcorporation, my brother used kids who have never done a day's acting in their lives before (I know that because they're our kids!) and he received notification of being a potential finalist. No money was involved at all. I find comments like the one below sadly cynical

  • I thought we did a great job on our film but I guess unless you can't afford better equipment and better actors you don't win. I want to vote for whomever beat us out but again like a lot of people here "Where Are they?"

  • lol what an ignorant thing to say. It's not necessarily about better equipment or better actors. Thats not what makes a 'good' film. It's all in the storyline and directing, thats the whole point of this competition. You are truly skilled at video production if you can make do with what you have as best as possible.

I've seen videos shot on the shittiest cameras ever, yet the storylines were so good that I would rather watch that than some big budget productions.

  • I agree about the equipment bit but talented actors, properly cast, make the film.

  • true true, haha i guess I was rushing my 'tongue' a little too much when I was typing that up.

That's one thing I've found is that its hard to find people to do good acting. Unless you have connections in a drama department it can be quite a challenge. Then again that all depends on the nature of the production too. For serious films with lots of emotion being conveyed then good actors are something you can't do without.

  • No worries! I suggest not typing with your tongue though. SAG has an agreement that will allow union actors to perform in short film projects. It's worth checking it out.

  • Thank you for putting me in my place and proving my point at the same time LOL

  • Thank you for putting me in my place and proving my point at the same time LOL

  • I acted in and helped make Bobbing for Apples, and I just wanted to sympathize with you! Its hard to find good actors if you don't have friends that are! But Jasmanda has a great point! Children are naturally good actors, so if you need to cast from nonactors, I recommend writing stories with kids in them!

The other key is to find people interested in telling a story (as opposed to "hey act in my film", say "hey help me tell this great story"That shift can really help a nonactor.)

  • Where are the top 20? I cant find it.

  • Where's the top 20?

    I can't find.

  • Some of these comments indicate people have already voted. Is this true because we can't find the top 20 anywhere and we are keen to find out who made it to the final

  • where do we vote??

  • Can't say I'm not disappointed I didn't make top twenty but oh well, best of luck and congrats to the finalists!

  • were there is the 20 video went in the final?

  • Where's my votes?

  • how do i land my pop-shuvit?
