  • u helped me out more then any others youtubers did

  • Can anybody help me with the electrical part... a wiring diagram? I dont know how to weld the wires in the amp/ switch/ horn driver...

  • Excellent insructional video and sounds great. I have everything here to make this, just have to buy some tubing. Thanks!

  • It's an Audix OM-5.

  • @WeakEndProductions

can you help me on how to wire the switch properly?

  • What is mic used?

  • your fucking pro!

  • thank you very much ... very cool video, well done ... keep on, happy new year ... ok

  • Nice idea!

  • Nice video and excellent playing and backing music. Nice studio too. :-)

  • Thanks! And thanks for checking out the video.

  • thanks man this helped us put together our own...we started out a little different..but u gave us what we needed to bring it all together

  • My one question is: Could you show the schematics for wiring in the switch? I plan on doing the same concept except make an external button. So i can step to activate/deactivate it. Thanks!

  • THIS IS FANTASTIC! You sir are a great teacher, and I can say if I get around to making one, I'll definitely post a video response. Of the 234453454 talk box how-to's on youtube, this one is by far the best

  • genius

  • I'm gonna go rip out my grandmas respirator hose and make one one of these right now.

  • ,,,,......,,,...

  • .....

  • i think is great the fact that you can built your own....my question is.... i have a 120wtts line six amp....can i use a diferent small amp.....( I have a couple of them....) and use them simultaneusly?

  • that's better than a wah-wah pedal!! XD

  • i've got an amp just like that haha maybe i'll just make one of these

  • Hey, I Bought A Heavy Duty Titanium Horn Driver (200W N 8 Ohms) N Is That Possible 4 Me 2 Use That Driver 4 D Project?? N By D Way, Im Using A "Marshall 40W Amp..." Will My Amp Blow Up If I Use That Driver As My Talk Box?? Thx...

  • okaay thankss but like what do i attach the horndrive to in the amp ?

  • excellent idea, well done.

  • great stuff u must a great guitar teacher

  • That's just the magic of editing!

  • that was awsome!

  • PEDO BEAR ALERT!!!

  • Nice! I'm wondering if you're an engineer by trade who has worked with pneumatic controls.

  • Very very cool. I just heard of a talk box recently. I'm a weekend bedroom producer and had only heard of a vocoder, the talk box is a neat concept Great video!

  • Great video and explanation. I just pieced together my talkbox today and have a few questions. When I plug the end of the tube with my thumb, should I be able to hear sound coming from the driver? Perhaps I do not have a good enough seal. Does it need to be absolutely airtight?

Also, I know I am brand new at this, but I expected to get clearer wording coming out, but like your video, I couldn't get understandable words; have you found tips for this?

    Thanks Again : )

  • I know how to do everything except the switch. How do you install the switch?

  • nice job man, this was well though out

  • ok first great idea.. i saw this and proceeded to build mine .. but i have an issue i used a new compression - horn- driver and i'm running it through a 25 watt amp but i cant get the volume that you are getting out of my tube .. yes there is sound coming out but very little ... any ideas??? the driver was rated at 250 peak watts and is a mid range frequency

  • Sorry for the double post, but I had a question. Would you be willing to do a tutorial on making a 'Leslie' rotating speaker cab?

I've been looking in on them, and I think it would be awesome to have one!

  • Haven't made one but I imagine that it's very doable. Hmmmm...

  • Beautiful Tutorial and Build!

I built on of these out of a cheap Marshall 10 watt practice amp and an Eminence Horn Driver, but I then made my Talkbox 'modular', by making jacks for the I/O, so it could work for any amp with Speaker out.

As an after thought, I used it in my 8th grade science project about sound! The teacher said that the Talkbox was a really creative addition, and gave me an 100%! :D

Anyways, nice tutorial, and it would've been a great help if it was made before I made mine!

  • how many watts was the bullhorn?

  • this is so awesome dood!!!

  • Awesome video, what was that song at the beginning?

  • That was a guitar/talkbox medley of (Bon Jovi) 'Livin' on a Prayer', (Peter Frampton) 'Show Me the Way, and a fail version of (Joe Walsh) 'Rocky Moutain Way'. I was just goofin' on the keyboard segment. Thanks for checking out the video.

  • I don't know much about electronics but would u have to do something like match voltages for the amp and horn driver? But great video I'm thinking about doing this!

  • pretty cool

  • very nice video and presentation man, I have a Rocktron Banshee but your DIY project is very flexible and inspiring . Now another thought, how about having another amp circuit to handle the final sound in the same box? Greetings, keep up the creativity

  • Very cool project and beautifully presented too. I love it.

  • Thanks for stopping by and checking it out!

  • Cool stuff!

  • Really great video production - thanks fort the information!

  • Nasty, I did this with my old amp and it works great, though i did a foot switch instead of on the case, so i can swap on the fly and continue to play.

  • Great idea! I shoulda thought of that. Thanks.

  • Where did you get that switch?

  • Radio shack. It's called a double pole double throw switch. DPDT Switch.

  • Fantastic video! Your graphics, sense of humor, and presentation were very slick. Nice job, and great licks on the axe. Cheers!

  • Thanks for checking out my video and thanks for all the kind words!

  • thanks for sharing dude.

  • Man your clever!! I wouldn't even attempt this!

  • also, my guitarist has a footswich tuner, (which I HIGHLY recommend to any gigging guitarist) it has 2 outputs on it... I figure he can send that extra output to the talk-box rig

  • I plan to use this method to create a talk box for my band but I think I'm going to add some barbed hose adapters laced into each other on the amp wall between the internal tubing... and the active or "up to the microphone" tubing to make for a firmer seal... I figure that way my guitarist will be able to cap the barbed piece sticking out with a barbcap to keep dust/dirt out for transporting... do you notice, on yours, does much sound escape where your tubes slid together?

  • I used my old version of Adobe (Macromedia) Flash 4. It was quite a project, something like 30+ layers. It took a good deal of time to put together but I thought it came out great. Thanks for acknowledging my effort and video!

  • i don't know how to install the switch. a little help please!!!

  • Awesome video. I cudda used this about 2 years ago when I also tried tobuild a talk box. I'll have to show you what I built. IT is VERY similar to yours. I also used a small amp, Horn Driver. Except I actually bought a brand new driver for about 50 bucks. Mine works the same exact way. I also added a footswitch to bypass the talk box and run direct to my big amp. Aswesome vid!

  • :O jakjkas mi primer ampli xD que buena idea xD

  • This is great, considering that I have that exact same amp. Thanks! (:

  • a really nicely done video and very helpful. A++

  • Thanks for checking it out!

  • @WeakEndProductions Great idea! Could you tell me how to connect the wires from horn to speaker?

  • Thanks and I've unblocked the problem that was causing your messages not to get through. Could you send me details on how to wire up the DPDT switch please. Thank you for the parts list.

  • does anyone know what sized parts he used in this video and how to connect the switch?

  • Tried to send you a personal message with some answers but you're set things up to block them.

  • -1/2" M.I.P x 1/2" barbed hose adapter.

    - PVC 'Slip to 1/2" F.I.P adapter.

    -3/8" I.D. x 1/2" O.D. vinyl tubing into 1/2" I. D. x 5/8" O.D vinyl tubing.

-DPDT switch Rated 3 amps @ 125VAC (used with my 10w amp)

  • Hi there. Is it possible to send me a dimensions list for the parts that are needed along with a message on how to wire up the switch?

  • Would it be possibe to use a main amp for playing at a gig and switch over to the small amp with the voicebox in to be able to use and then switch back to the main amp for playing the music again...thank you, Andre

  • I don't see why not.

  • Thank you very much for your speedy reply and thorough explaination of how to wire the toggle switch! I had a feeling that that was the correct way to wire it but I wanted to make sure. Yours seems to work flawlessly, so I am sure that this will be a breeze to install.

Thanks to your description, I'm confident that I won't need a fire extinguisher and the phone number of the local burn center!!

  • Glad to help. You gave my wife an me a good laugh this morning Thanks!

  • @WeakEndProductions

I'm glad to know that I could return the favor with some comic relief! After several, failed, electrical expiriments, including nearly burning my house to the ground while trying to build a homemade tattoo gun, my friends started greeting me by saying ''How's it Glowing, Sparky?" and I finally learned that it's better to be safe....than to be ''crispy''

''I (don't) love the smell of Ozone in the morning...It smells like failure"!!!

  • @WeakEndProductions Where can I get all of the details that I need to build this talkbox? I'm looking for the dimensions of all of the equipment that you used in the making? Also how to connect the toggle switch

  • @JimiBLong Hi you didnt show how to wire the switch is it very complicated

    to wire in

  • Not Really. I'll send you message on it. (Too many words for this format)

  • you should have more VIews mate! this is unreal your so talented!

  • You shake a tree and a hundred Talkbox how-to's on Youtube fall out but I did think my production values were at least a little above par. I spent quite a bit of time on my "What is a Talkbox?' cartoon animation. Who does that? You fart out the 'Star Spangled Banner' and you get 2 million views! So what do I know. Thanks for stopping by and checking out my video!

  • genius! but i migth burn down my pad! ill leave it to the pros~!

  • I'm no pro but thanks for the sendup and checking out my video!

  • how do you install the switch to direct the output? what do you connect it to?

  • I wrote a little more than can be posted here.. Open you 'Send Message' capability and I will send you the information.

  • @WeakEndProductions

    Hello, Great job!!

Would you be so kind, as to send the toggle switch info to me also? It would be greatly appreciated! I just built a great little talk box for under $ 20. I'm amazed at how easy it was to build and even more amazed at how great it sounds. The only thing that would make it better is to be able to make it a 'dual duty' talk box.

Thank you....and once again, Great job!!!

  • Kind of cool but weird at the same time.

  • Great Video but..... This looks eerily similar to my first design with the talkbox. I have two videos on my page, posted before this one. hmmmm.... coincidence?

  • I checked out your videos and I can see how you think, 'coincidence' , a kind of 'My Sweet Lord/She's so Fine' thing at the very least. I actually built the talkbox in 2008. My raw video clips of the build on my HD show 'Date Created' 4/26/2008 at 4:59pm.

Aside from all that, you have to admit that my production values were pretty involved. The cartoon explanation alone, starting at 1:13 was a total 'Mofo' to produce. I did that in Flash®. I used 56 layers just to produce that segment.

  • I see you are using a 10W amp what power is the horn driver

    Andy

  • It was an Ademco No. 713 horn rated at 8 ohms and 40 watts. The amp's output was at 4 ohms which is less than ideal according to my research. You're not getting all you can out of the horn but it worked out good enough.

  • @WeakEndProductions whats considered 'ideal' for ohms of the amp? I found the exact same amp for $30 on Craigs List but if theres a better option, i'd rather try and do that

  • I got the amp for $20 (on sale). $30 doesn't sound that unreasonable. Even better if you already have an amp that you could set up like I did in my video. I didn't mention in the video that I'm using a $1,000 guitar modeling preamp in front of a $20 dollar amp. Which is kinda like recording a kazoo through $2,000 Neumann Large diaphragm mic. A little into the overkill range. In other words, "Your mileage may vary". I'll send you message on the 'ohms' thing. Not enough space here.

  • I notice it is a 10w guitar amp,

what power is the horn driver

    Andy

  • can u cnnt to pc

  • questions

    1) what is that switch called

    2) where can i find it

    3) is there anyway that i could find a foot switch version of that

    4) how do you properly connect the switch

  • Nice strat!!! That sustain is to die for man. Props!

  • Greaaaaat video!!! You have a good taste too!

  • ok thanx man!!!

  • ok man i got a question, how can i connect my speaker talkbox into the amplifier?, well, where goes connected the cable of my speaker into the amplifier? i don't know if i explained

  • Teto, I'm not sure I understand, but the microphone is the 'connection'. A microphone picking up the sound of the talkbox. The microphone is connected to a separate amp of amp channel.

  • @WeakEndProductions i think he was inquiring about how you mounted the horn driver to the inside of the amp chasis, and then about the wires from the original speaker (which you connected to the 2-way switch)

  • That particular horn driver had a threaded hole on the magnet side. I just drilled a hole in the case and got a screw to fit. The switch is DPDT (double pole, double throw). Both wires from the amp are connected to the switch in a way that can connect to either the horn driver OR the cab speaker but NEVER both.

  • I wonder if you can use those horns in a PA application. Great vid I will try this.

  • nice vid dude

  • Thanks for stopping by and checking it out.

  • can you show how you wired the switch please to the amp and horn driver? and does the magnet from the horn driver interfere with the magnet in the amp

  • I'll send you a message.

  • yes cool thing :)

  • You did a excellent job explaining the concept of the talk box and how it works and how you made yours. 5 Stars man!

  • Thanks Paul! It did take some time to put the video together. The animation sequence was a total 'mother...' but I think it was worth it. Thanks again for checking it out.

  • One more job :-) Nice video. Thanks.

  • Obrigado por assistir ao vídeo. Diga-me, você usa as legendas?

  • Hi, friend. Yes, I can see the cc legends. It's a great way for all people to understand what you say (my english is little too). But I don't understandi this expression "Todos entendem que a música, não?". The effect I applyed on my video was simple just made in Sony Vegas 8. I think you know make as it, ok? Thanks for all, friend.

  • Now I'm understanding what you said. You're right. Music is an universal language and really the more beautiful human language. You're welcome. I'm glad for your explanation video. Thanks for respect and speack in my brazilian portuguese language.

  • This is great! You are like Mr. Wizard! I was sitting here cracking up at the blowing up house disclaimer too. :)

  • Thanks Lis for watching my video. For my next trick, let me see if I can make a truck reappear!

    Uncledaddy

  • Lol, I wish!

  • Thanks for checking it out. This one took a while. Figuring out how to do that little animation segment was brutal.

  • I love all your videos. Thanks for this.
