Collision detecting is selective by the game designers. Usually larger aircraft such as the KC-10 or the E6E have the ability to be crashed into, in every Ace Combat installation since AC4.

Such a design choice is probably from a playtest result; think about how fun it would be if regardless how skilled you were as an ace, was entirely out of your hands if you lived or died by a middair collision with a bot pilot you didn't even know was about to hit you?

in AC 5 you crash into your teammates either if they are higher ranked than you(Bartlett) or if they are the flight lead (mission 3 before the briefing and mission 17 during the airshow.)

lol thats in every ace combat, the only time it doesnt work is in ace combat 5 when ur flying with captain bartlett :P

Try playing Ace Combat 5, mission 1. As soon as you get control, accelerate. You'll crash right into Captain Bartlett and explode (he'll be fine though). Therefore, it's not so much a glitch as a design choice, as has been said in other comments.

And I think it's a perfectly defensible decision to make larger aircraft, erm, corporeal. People would be far more likely to complain if those could be passed through. Also, where's the skill in missing something if you could just fly right through it?

yea all fighter's are phantom they cant be hit midair only heavy's like bombers transport's and Awacs have hit boxes.

i think its a good thing because if you have to do hard right and grunda 2 is there soo you dont crash on him and have to start ALLL OVER like on the other Ace Combat's

i have no idea on how that works, but you accelerate and brake at the same time to make REALLY sharp turns.
