  • Beautiful boat, confidently sailed. I see teak decks and a low house - Swan like, maybe a Frers design? Nice helmsmanship, and it looked like you were having a good time. Cheers.

  • Fantastic!

  • 30 kts max

  • That looks quite windy...

  • 40 nodi, con raffiche a 50, onda relativamente corta e frangente, uno straccetto di fiocco a riva. Barca tranquilla, equipaggio pure. Complimenti, che barca è?

  • 40 nodi, raffiche a 50, onda frangente e relativamente corta, solo uno straccetto di fiocco a riva. La barca sembra tranquilla, l'equipaggio anche. Non riesco a capire di che barca si tratta. Complimenti!

  • 25 kts maybe.. 40kts is very different.

  • definitely not 40-50...

  • ps a prudent sailor shortens sail ealy not late

  • 40 dont gust 50 , 40 gusts 60 evan 70 at times, probably force 7 or 8 , but hey there out there which is good sail on

  • I agree with all other comments. When you look at the sea, it seems to be no more than 15 knots. No foam, no breaking waves. 40 knots gives a lot of spray and horizontal movement of the water. And, what's more : look at the people's hair, their clothes and the sprayhod of the boat. It was rather calm weather, with nice, huge waves like you het them some two days AFTER a breeze....

  • well you all wiseguys,

this boat must have been doing 8+knots in a storm jib alone.

surely at the measuring point (10-15 meters high) it was blowing 40knots.

the waves are short, that's why it doesn't show , but check out at 0:52 why he turned off the camera

  • exactly. you don't get breaking waves in 20 kts of breeze.

  • Even this single breaking wave convinces me of the fact that it didn't really blow that day. It's only a vertical movement...

  • no way 40, 50 is just stupid, learn what a knot is,

    Nice waves

  • that was more like kilometers than knots

  • Comment removed

  • more like 18 - 21

  • mate at 40 kts the wind will pick wave crests up and carry them 10+ metres in a wall of water.. the way it looks here is 20-25 max

  • The Yachts an S&S Swan is it not?

I delivered a beautiful black hulled S&S Swan 47 to the UK from Jamestown Near Boston. I realise yours is smaller, but did you come from the same place?

  • 40 knots my balls!!

  • Get a new wind speed indicator, that one is not registering proprerly

  • nice vid! Stirring ;)

  • WoW i'd piss my pants xD

  • whaoo impressive at the end. what's happened?? hope you didn't break anything.

For all morons who never been on a boat during well.... bad weather things are always better on a sofa and seems nicer...

  • You probably sail on a lake and are easily impressed. That weather is not the least bit threatening. People who make such remarks as yours, probably consider water splashing on the deck as life threatening.

  • well don't think i'm a lake saillor lol but when I see the video and i see that you don't have so much sail on it you can't say it's normal.... ok in this situation you have the wind coming from behind so its appears as an escape situation.

  • I think a more relevant title for this clip is "Leisurely downwind sailing in a pleasant breeze'. Why not throw up a spinnaker and post something more entertaining?

  • Someone should teach Valenciabruce about apparent wind. That boat is moving about 8+ knots, so if you think it's 25 knot sounding the wind is actually moving around 35+ Knots. To move that fast with the Jib Stormed down, that wind had to be blowing pretty good. And you know what Valenciabruce, who cares they are having fun, just like I do when I go sailing.

  • finally, someone who knows what they're talking about. thanks dr. dave

  • Take a look at any of the lines loose in the wind, listen to the camera's mic., that's not 40 kts.

  • more like 20 gusting to 25

  • ya know, you're not the first to make a comment like that, i realise it doesn't look all that crazy. and it wasn't. 40kts and 12-15 ft seas on your stern quarter is really no big deal. but why would i just make that shit up? you think i need to impress you?

  • is that only the jib moving you forward?

  • 40kts in a tall ship? wow!

  • Scary at the end - holy...

  • My only offshore sailing experience so far was in similar conditions, but at night on a 39' cutter rig. With a triple reef and staysail up it was not the kind of exilaration one should desire. I am glad that of the three aboard I was the least experienced.
