There are lots of great hi-hats around, hard to recommend something specific. The one I´m using is a 13" Zildijan K. I´t´s a very versatile hi-hat and I´m quite happy with it.

Usually it´s just kick! The hi-hat comes in after beat 1, depending on what kind of beat you play.

I always use rim shots when I play accents and backbeats, the other notes are regular strokes.
