When the DNR feels that the population is too high, they have either early or extended periods. We have bag limits also, to prevent the wipeout of deer, and also to ensure that the population doesnt get out of control. It is very hard to do.

Hunting orgs. do not plant food plots. It is private land owners that do. For the simple fact that we like seeing deer, and having an attractant will attract more deer to our land, I do not have one by the way. There is no such thing as restocking either, they put caps on liscences to ensure a healthy population that can be hunted.

If there is a rebound, it is due to the fact the pregant does have more food to eat AFTER hunting season. Like I said before, the DNR and hunting orgs. do not have anything to do with making thier own plots, it is the private citizen that owns thier own land that makes plots. Killing deer does not work because

#1 compensatory rebound meaning sudden drop in deer population creates more food for deer, does give birth to twins sometimes triplets which the hunting organization knows about that and in fact helps it along by planting food crops, supplement feeding and killing predators that is why you continue to have so many deer in heavily hunted states.

DVA peek during hunting season because the deer are less aware of their surroundings while chasing a mate. Not because they are chased out. Also DVA accidents are higher in states with more hunting because of a higher deer population density, not because they are chased out. HIgher population means more hunting which also means more DVAs. It's the law of averges my friend. More deer in an area equals more DVAs.
