  • BEARDPOWER!!!!!

  • It's Whiskey, dumbhead!

  • on the positive side- there's whiskey in the jar O

  • Peter, Paul and Mary did a version on one of their earliest albums

  • Awesome

  • Fuck Metallica!!! Thanxxx!!!

  • love shane and the dubliners but they don't touch thin lizzie on this one

  • @brianfarrier

Becasue this version is much closer to tradtional one. Lizzy slowed their version much.

  • @brianfarrier Very different but the Thin Lizzy one is great a bit darker in overall tone though both better then the Metallica version

  • Can you imagine playing with the sainted Barney and you'd have to keep up?

  • There's a Swedish version of this song ("Skärsliparens sång"), but other than the same chords, beats and rhythms, it's a completely different song. The lyrics has nothing in common with this.

  • @ThrowntoReality lol at u in fairness and im twisted drunk its half 8 in the mornin loool you mite aswell change the whole song then..tiesto ha

  • @ThrowntoReality Is it?

  • @vampiregirlgbg It has the same music but different lyrics.

  • little bit too fast isn't it?

  • better than the original, way better than any cover around..

  • Does anyone know from what year this is? love it

  • Wait wait I´ve got to be drunk first ... Yihaa! .-)

  • There are a lot of versions of this song. It was Kilgary Mountain backin the 1950s with some different music and lyrics. Under the title "Whiskey in the Jar" it has been most often recorded by the Dubliners, in traditional style. In 1972, Thin Lizzy made a rock version. These days both the traditional and rock versions have been covered. Metallica's version is a Thin Lizzy cover. I like the Dubliner's version the best. This one is traditional played a little faster, not the rock one.

  • rock yeah!!!

  • I grew up on the jerry garcia version. But this is a very close second. Fark metallica.

  • I wonder if their is a russian version? Voddy in a jam jar?

  • @PUG205GTX I'll drink some of that!

  • @dlrion haha yer! would go down a treat!

  • Down with this fucking England!

    Greeting from a Scottish guy.

  • @woischdochduned ...wha?

  • It's W-H-I-S-K-E-Y in the jar.

  • I'm going to go drink...

  • i do a good version its a bit Phoebe Buffet haha my kids have been known to shout 'please stop mum your giving me a headache' oh i do love my guitar...........

  • The Dubliners version is the one I was weaned on, so it's the only version for me.

  • TAL

  • @jonnyboy0036 Aw you fucking pussy, Tá Metallica aon rud ach cac! That's right!

  • @zcguitar Metal up your ass, майка копеле! That's right!

  • lmfao

  • I love this song. I heard a version once where he met his brother in the barracks at Killarney (Klarny).-- "my brother took his leave but he didn't tell the army."

  • @sindrole metallica covered them ;D

  • @Felix18302 well, i think metallica rather covered thin lizzy, who covered them.

  • original is better ;)

  • @sindrole you cant be for real

  • @pyro4336 of course i'm not. i was totally just trolling about. this is a great version. don't lose faith. there's hope in humanity i assure you.

  • @sindrole Ha ha. That's a relief :)

  • Liking an Irish drinking song does not make you an "Irishman" any more than liking Jimmie Hendix or watching Platoon makes you a Vietnam Veteran... NOOBS

  • Comment removed

  • Go on the Irish.

  • Lets play a game...Ronnie Drew vs. Shane MacGowan...which is the most drunk? (btw, i love both so don't assume i'm against this kind of music)

  • There's a great, great version of this in the movie "War of the Buttons", I really should rip it and upload it sometime.

    Great song.

  • Im from Brazil and i must say this songs reflects part of the irish culture, part that i admire and think that fits perfecly to me. Very nice lifestyle, makes my chest feel of good things when i hear irish songs.

  • Love this song and love all the bands that covered it and the different ways they covered it. It's such a class song!

  • Ronnie drew...... the ultimate Irishman

  • Metallica tore this up!

  • Couldn't agree more pal

  • RIP Ronnie. Lest we forget. Shane lives.

  • Barney is my mam's uncle

  • Is this THE original?

  • @Balenza345 No it is an old irish traditional song but the band called Thin Lizzy make it popular in the 70s :D

  • @Myrre87 Elvis did it better. /watch?v=h5BTgNv9_Vg

I kid, i kid, Elvis version was kinda.... well... different.... better than the Greatful Deads version at least, which isnt bad... just really, really different...

  • @Fitzcard

I don't think the Dead ever did this... Jerry Garcia and David Grisman, yes. That's not the Dead.

  • @Balenza345 The original is 4 or 5 hundred years old.

  • @Balenza345 I doubt it. This sounds like a much more Punk Rock version. Probably because The Pogues were represented well in this one. And I don't think Shane McGowan was originally in the Dubliners.

  • the pogues! makes me proud too be part irish!

  • @lukevertiis That's what a ballad is?

  • I didn't know about this collaboration. I have "Irish Rover" and "Mountain Dew" on my FALL FROM GRACE CD, buy I didn't know about this.

  • I'd swear this was sped up :-?

  • im a metallica fan but i wont bash thin lizzies or the dubliners version there all awesome songs and if ya think about it i bet the people about a hundred years or so ago would probably think all the modern versions are shitty try that logic

  • Thin Lizzy do a real good cover of this song

  • I like Metallica, but this is way better! It makes my heart tingle

  • Dear Metallica fanboys, would you quit your whining?

    kthxbye

  • better than the shit metallica version

  • boah what a load of rubbish

  • I s that that mad qwacker from tnhe pogues iI Met at Heathrow on the ticket alright --He the late watsis said he had beenm wandering around for 3 days

  • IS BETER METALLICA VERSION

  • WHAT THE FUCK!!!!!!!!

  • I love all the versions I've heard, I think the magic is in the song

  • You know you're Irish when you're being taught this song when you're about 8. Great song :]

  • listen and chill

  • Pogue MA HONE Bitches!!!!!

  • All your mothers f...... !!!! Metallica is not trying to play irish. They are only making their version of it !!!!!

  • My mammy was Irish born..I'm just an Aussie..but this band makes me feel like drinkin', so I guess a little bit of that Irish is certainly in me!

    Sliante!

  • @sophiaeva1 SLAINTE!!!

  • The Irish... a poor mans Scots and you know it.

Ps you owe us £7 Billion where are all the Noraid tossers now!

  • @MrAmadaeus

you know for a fact that the irish would do the same for britain if they were desperatley in need of help, and its not just britain they owe 7bn to, its the EU thts bailin them out.. yes, ireland are part of europe as are britain.. im scottish, my grandparents are irish, i have relatives living in ireland so i took obvious offence to this.. just another small dig at the irish, probably a hun. tiocfaidh ar la ;)

  • @MrAmadaeus The Scots hahahaha... last time I checked your British and the Irish are just simply Irish.

  • Wait, I thought Thin Lizzy wrote this originially? then Metallica did a re-make

but how cool! i love this! true irish men!

  • @XxleandraXX01 you really better be joking

  • @therejects1000 hahaha jeses.....people haha

  • That sounds just like the Mr. Krab's song

  • why are so many of you bitching about metallica? metallica didnt cover this version of the song...they covered the thin lizzy version of it. it wasnt meant to be a traditional irish song when they recorded it. i prefer this version but you wont hear me crying about metallica because i simply dont see a reason to. comparing the two is like comparing apples and oranges.

  • @xxxombee apples are way better

  • phil lynott a true irishman did a proper and motivating cover, fuck metallica always late to the party

  • If I could sing with half as much Irish pride as Ronnie Drew or Shane MacGowan, I'd be a satisfied young man.

  • Yo people, chill out, enjoy the music!!!

Weirdunclebob is right, who cares about this or that version being better.

None of this folks wrote the song anyway...

Personally, i love all of them.

    Rock hard, stay cool!!!!

  • i hear this tune i get shivers down my spine , i'm irish and love everything that is. do you realise the man that owns jacobs put hundreds of irish men and women on the dole, just so he could have more profit by sorcing once irish made biscuits to england , shame on you i say, how can an irish man take the food from irish mouths and justify by it saying its good business, he's a traitor to everything that our flag represents. remember jacobs 1916, there are many will never forget, but he did.

  • Just being in Dublin last week got this song stuck in my head.

Or maybe it was passing all those Carroll's gift stores on O'Connell and Grafton Street. ^^

    Okay, one more time!

  • Geez, quit quibbling, folks! Go right ahead and admit to liking whichever flaming version of any song you like, but fer feck's sake, stop bagging other people's versions! This was written in the 1700's so it's impossible to have a recording of the original version. The Dubliners were the first to make it famous, Thin Lizzy made it even more famous and now Metallica have introduced it to another generation. I prefer the Dubliners version with Luke Kelly singing but they're all good. Peace out!

  • @weirdunclebob

    1600's some say

    I love kellys version too

The version on youtube is my favourite live recording , bar none.

  • @weirdunclebob Don't forget the Clancys and Makem, good version, also!!!

  • @gabornadele Anything they did was a good version!

  • this is the original and its much better! metallicas verion is shit !!!!

  • @2UP2DOWNX Its a traditional song, this is not the original version

  • best version i've ever heard

  • metallica`s version is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than this shit xD

  • @KingOfShadows1500 i no on a cd it sounds better but if youre in a pub and some random lad is beltin out on a guitar theres nothin as good

  • LOL xD

  • Thin Lizzy did a good version of this song as well. And unlike Metallica, some of them were actually Irish. :)

  • @TheKeithMendez This is an Irish song. I would like to sing a Spanish song, but don't want to hear I should be Spanish before I try to sing it, just that I should be able to sing (I can't). Shane McGowan said rock n roll didn't begin in 1955, it's music with attitude from any time. Rocky Road to Dublin is rock n roll so is The Monto and Whiskey in the Jar As An Irishman I'm delighted to hear Metelica cover this. It introduces it to a wider audence, who cares where the singer was born

  • @thejohnmurphy the more pressing issue is how bad metalica did when covering the song

  • Hm....for me...I prefer the Metallica version...but this even good its faster ^^

  • Metallica verin sucks

  • it's a classic song that has made everyone happy through dec
