Because archaic really matters when death is involved. Firing squad is cheaper, faster, and less chance for error. I mean common, if I were on death row I would rather be shot with a dozen guns rather than being pumped full of chemicals that have to be extremely fine tuned or your ass is chemically fried for hours. Then they have to try again....

I know injection is not the most humane way... but would you rather be put to sleep forever by drugs, or shot sitting in a chair where you likely will be conscious and completely aware all the way until the point that your heart stops. Thing thing is, I don't believe it's as peaceful as being put to sleep. What might be going through the head of the prisoner as his heart stops? I believe a gunshot would put a person into shock and they would not experience as much pain as it appears.
I would suspect a simple shot to the head would be humane, done by a skilled executioner. That being said, I'm sounding a little dark talking about this subject. I do hope Gardner went peacefully.

@Bouser In the english dictionary murder define as murder stealing is stealing, but in reality the system works differently...there are certain judgmental levels of senario you can look at. thats why we have judges and juries to decide on these cases.
if you think murder in any way shape or form is wrong...would you still think killing in self defense is the same?

@susankohistany It said in the video that firing squad is not the default method and is instead an option for people who don't wish to go through lethal injection. I fail to see the problem. 2 dollars in ammunition is a lot better than the thousands that lethal injection runs or the potential millions that life in prison cost.

They do that so every one who is shooting doesn't know if they were shooting a real bullet or a blank. It's a way to help avoid guilt. Kinda silly huh? I am sure they are instructed to shoot in one area, the heart. I wonder if the person being executed is wearing a mask or not?

Sir, the point is to have a fair system. Everyday the middle class are put away in jail or sentenced to death, but if you have lots of money and power especially in this country, then you're given a slap on the wrist and that's all. You don't get extensive jail time nor the death penalty. Try to see things beyond a cooky cutter lawyer's perspective and the hypocritical laws he follows. The law benefits the status quo and nothing else.

@yourmumisadick eerrr... he chose the firing squad. A firing squad gives an instant painless and extremely cheap death 100% of the time. A lethal injection is very expensive, can leave you in agony for in one case 3 hours, and in one case, can take 20 administrations to kill you over a period of days. I'd rather have the firing squad any day.

@fog0death I always thought they had 4 loaded rifles and 1 blank rifle so it that theres a chance that firing squad members would have the hope that the one of them didn't fire the fatal shot. It could be anyone of them that had the blank, so you can keep thinking that maybe you didn't kill someone. Also I don't think the convicted prisoner gets to choose who shoots him, I believe they all fire at the same time. Which means he doesn't have a chance at surviving. Those 4 bullets will be used!

Malice under current law is defined as wrongful intention. Is not the disregard for the safety of those on that oil rig a wrongful intention? The CEO of BP knew that a rupture could occur due to faulty equipment, but he chose to do nothing about it. So his intentions were wrong because he didn't care about the potential catastrophe that would kill thousands of marine animals(fish, sea mammals and birds) and humans too. Blame the environmentalist who force oil companies to drill a mile or more below sea level.
