You cant do that its illegal per the case book. There are real legitimate reasons that the center might pick up the ball. One of them being a real equipment problem. The rule preventing the is and all other tricks designed to make the defense think a snap is not imminent is to prevent the defense from teeing of on the QB or center when there really is a problem.

When the play is totally legal. 1) It's a silent snap count=LEGAL 2)Center side snaps it=LEGAL. 3) No illegal procedure since the play is live when the kid walks to the sideline=LEGAL Maybe the defensive coach needs to teach them about silent snap counts and side snaps LOL. The the play uses a silent snap count(actually the center yells wrong ball), then the center side hikes the ball to the QB, the QB jogs to the side line to get the right ball lol (the ball is in play at this point), and then he takes off running. Making this play 100% legal. It's the defensive coaches fault for not explaining the full game to his players.

Oh I see it's ok to make plays like that on small children!! I don't think it's legal when the coach is standing on the side line yelling "HOLD ON YOU HAVE THE WRONG BALL!" I bet they will not be able to do that play on the kids again!! I still think it is not a good lesson for the kids!!

Yeah we ran that play last saturday and a last minute exhibition game between our junior team facing the senior little league team. I have been dying to try that play out and this game meant nothing so we did it. We won the game with that play and beat the oldest boys in the league. The whole crowd on our side was silent until they figured out what had happened.

Thats an illegal play in any rule book, NCAA, high school or pop warner. Has been for many many years. This kind of nonsense has nothing to do with the game of football and that's why it's an unsportsmanlike act that carries a 15 yard penalty.

The "Wrong Ball" play is specifically illegal in high school and youth play. The refs screwed up. They should've killed the play and assessed an Unsportsmanlike Conduct penalty on the Head Coach "by rule."

what they do is first the qb stomps his foot. (the scilent hike. it's cheap.. but its still a hike) then the rb says to the coach that its the wrong ball. when he was an open shot then he runs. its cheap but its legal.

I guarantee you that the teams that face this coach in the future would be ready for the play. I suppose this is one way to teach youngsters to play hard whenever the ball moves. As a coach, I would really look forward to playing a team that was coached by the guy who spent his practice time designing this play instead of blocking, tackling, learning assignments, mental preparation, and talking about respecting the game. Those lessons aren't on display in this video.

These kids should be learning blocking, tackling, and the rules of the game.

It's embarrassing for an adult to take pride in this play. Coaches should be positive role models for these boys to emulate. But by running this play in a youth league, you're exploiting an admirable trait of children: honesty. The kids on the other team BELIEVE that the wrong ball is in play.

In a high school game, this is a clever play.

But you're just lying to children to win a game.

Just because you got away with it does not mean it is legal according to NFHS ruels which most your leagues run under.

I would have also nailed you guys for illegal formation since the left tackle was in the backfield, even with the QB.

Obviously you have inferior and/or untrained officials to continually let this stuff go on through the entire season. Because of that, your players are not properly learing how to play the game correctly.

the play itself may not be illegal but the way that most teams run it. (specially in youth football) theres always some sort of false start that does not get called
