  • Wow! That is small! I am wishing for a pro camcorder when I am older!

  • Who's the idiot speaking over you? Salesman? No respect. :)

  • The red thing you saw in the second camera, it calls peaking and it shows you what is in focus.. a super useful function that dslr's don't have, except buy external monitor...

  • I’ve been impressed with what I’ve seen from this camcorder XA10. Can anyone tell me if the movie files import SEAMLESSLY to Mac applications? iMovie 11, Final Cut Pro, Final Cut Express and the newest Final Cut Pro X. Appreciate your feedback.

  • @MrBladeCrash thats exactly what i meant! of course if you can afford a super 35mm video camera like a RED you would rather have that but for low-budget DSLR's are much better than standard (small ensor) video cameras.... unless you want to film your children at the park or something...

  • can this camera do smooth slow recording? I like the quality but I need something that will play back smooth when its put in slow motion since i film a lot of sporting events. So can someone tell me the MAX frames per second on this camera? Is it like Sony's smooth slow record and will do 240 fps? Please reply, Thanks.

  • @hooterboy12345 30fps. Get a Panasonic if you want 60fps. Red camera much more expensive and can do hundreds of frames per second in full HD.

  • You don't really care about the audio quality in your videos, do you?

  • @kazmanic I am using a Seenheiser MKE400 Shotgun microphone. Easier to use than wireless lapel microphones as you can't ask everyone you interview to wear them. Fo you want me to ask everyone else to shut up when I film an interview? Trade shows are always noisy places with bad lighting, there isn't much that can be done to improve.

  • @Charbax Yeah, I see your situation. But from the perspective of the viewer of your video it gets annoying. From even a few seconds in, the cross vocals stuffed up what could have been a interesting clip.

In situations similar to this I've scrubbed the audio track and inserted commentary after the fact, in post. Using ambient sound recorded separately from the trade show gives you the opportunity to mix in back-ground sound at a level that you can control.

    Hope this helps, cheers.

  • @kazmanic Maybe I'll hire some video editors. I film 106 videos during a trade show like CES, no time for post-production, I haven't edited a video since 2005 (except the occasional cut/join within the Sanyo Camcorders integrated video cut/join feature). Maybe I'll use a new camcorder like the XA10 with some kind of upgraded XLR system combining a new shotgun, a lapel microphone for myself and the occasional external handheld microphone and with that on-camera 2 channel XLR mixer.

  • @Charbax Hmmm, instead of using the acutal audio from the trade show, there would've been nothing wrong with placing a narration over the video in post when you got back home.

  • @JediFarce I don't do post. I film about 100 videos per 4-day conference. You can sponsor me hiring someone to do post if you want.

  • how good would this be to shoot a an amatuer movie of about 30-45 minutes. this is about all I want to spend.

  • can u take photos with it too?

  • @5teller why would you want to? Its a camcorder not a dslr

  • @smrtsk8er The reason for wanting this is possibly for filmmaking? Being as it's a "camcorder" as you put it, means that it "WAS DESIGNED TO SHOOT VIDEO"..... as opposed to the DSLR, which is a "photography" camera.... Not to mention, the new 1/3" HD CMOS pro sensor is far superior to that of the DSLR's......

  • @instigatorstudios VERY wrong, a DSLR sensor is much more superior as they are much larger, e.g, a canon 550d has a 24x16mm sensor and a 5d mark II has a 35x24mm sensor, whereas this has a TINY sensor, so DSLR's outperform this and just about any other professional camcorder in video..., thats why they use a 5d mark II to make movies and programs like house, but of course these are more convenient as they do record for much longer and are made for video, but dslr has better quality.

  • @TheMoo1231 The only problem with the DSLR sensors is that they have much more than 1920x1080 pixels, so they have to scale the image down. This can cause Artifacts (especially on diagonal lines). This Sensor has exactly 1920x1080 pixels: No downscaling, no artifacts -> better quality.

  • @shompy12 artifacting is very overrated, its not a massive problem, why are they making movies with a 5d mark II then? you have to admit the quality of there video is outstanding (especially for the price, combined with modded firmwares like ML)

  • @shompy12 No, I don't think so. I own both the Canon HF G10 & Canon 5D Mark II. While the image quality on the G10 is good, it is not better than what a 5D can capture with the right lenses & in-camera settings. The DOF that the 5D can achieve blows the G10 out of the water. Reason I purchased the G10? It can autofocus for fast moving subjects, the 5D cannot even with a follow focus & external monitor. Extreme low light? the G10 struggles while the 5D can literally see in the dark.

  • @TheMoo1231 really? I have been told by many people that camcorders are far superior to DLSRs for video. Despite the fact that DSLRs have bigger sensors, they still need to compress the video which can deteriorate video quality. DLSRs have over heating problems when recording for long periods. Also (and I know this from first hand experience) the DSLRs have that "jello effect" which absolutely infuriates me. Look it up if you don't know what that is.

  • @TheMoo1231 Canon argues that the sensor being exactly 1080p, it means much more information is being sent to each pixel, it means no real-time downscaling is going on in the camera, it's just native 1080p directly from the sensor, they argue this makes for better video quality. Pictures are obviously not going to be as good, but video should be better.

  • @sade0506 yes there's standard image stabilization, optical image stabilization, and powered image stabilization for telephoto shots

  • @sade0506 lol i think the words you're looking for is image stabilization, and yes it has it.

  • I am looking to buy the Canon XA10 and was wondering a little about the zoom. Where is the zoom or is it manual zoom from the lens?

  • This outline is peaking. It's focus assist.
