Sickle cell is a genetic condition u r born with. It's a chronic & incurable disease which brings a variety of complications, which can be debilitating, even life-threatening. It is not funny!

Sickle cell is not a black disease it's prevalent in all areas of the world including

Africa, Mediterranean countries (Greece, Turkey, & Italy) Arabian peninsula, India, South America, Central America, & parts of the Caribbean. Despite racial assumptions, sickle cell follows malaria, not dark skin.

Sickle Cell Anemia can be predicted by simple Mendelian genetics. Two copies of a mutant-type hemoglobin allele cause the full-blown disease, while one does not, and in fact increases one's resistance to blood-borne parasites like Plasmodium. That's why the alleles are so prevalent in warmer climes where their insect carriers (i.e. anopheles mosquito) are also prevalent. Obviously the mutant allele was selected for only in places where malaria was a significant risk. So fuck professor Anthony.

On sickle cell, it's genetic, so it's not so much they get it but they're born with it and it's passed down from their parents. Supposedly it's a genetic protection from malaria, so that's why Africans have it.
