I always looked forward to seeing Truc of America when they played at Gloria's Saloon Cape May NJ. The show was so fun. The band always put the people in the party mood. The song I remember was a great rendition of Planet Clare. It was one of their opening songs. Every time I listen to it on my ipod I think of ToA. The peppermint schnapps attack, when the crowd would gather around the stage and get shots poured right in their mouths. So fun. Great times and will always remember them.
OMG the KIKI lounge...and Zaire Dept store.... Holy cow, I was only 6 yrs old and tried to sneak in the KIKI when my parents would go to Zaires to shop... That place looked badass....Those kinds of bars are gone in florida....so sad.....KIKI was a WPB staple....Thanks for posting this...so many good memories....

I saw Truc at Remington's Goodtime Emporium in Savannah Ga. The guitar player dressed like Slim Whirman and the keyboard player dressed and talked like Mr Haney from Green Acres but the standout was the vocalist who wore a cardboard Television Set over his head that was lit from the inside and all you could see from the audience was a floating TV with a singing head...they were kind of like the Tubes
I remember seeing Truc at the Wisconsin State Fair in the early 70's. They also used to play at the Silver Moon Tavern in Fond du Lac, WI alot. They always put on a good show!
I used to go see this band in Atlanta at Charley Magruders and Harlows. Marc would come out wearing a TV set over his head when they would play "Planet Claire". Some of the best times of my life. I still have their 33 album.
I'm looking for Truc of America's remake of "Moon Out Tonight". I had it on 45 vinyl back in the day. have not heard it since. Anyone know if it's available as an MP3 ?
"Moon Out Tonight" 1973 on the Zero label was recorded by the band known simply as "Truc" from Milwaukee, WI. A new band was formed in Florida well after the single release with "America" added to the name (legal issues). By 1985 only one member "Norm" remained and he went on to do the "Clone" album & video with a completely different band. The lead vocal on the 45rpm record was R Lamb. Other members on the single were S Schmidt, M White, Roscoe, P Topping, Rocky, Popper and Norm.
Wonderful response and infomation. I'm sure that Truc had played a few high school dances for us back in the day. I am still looking for that recording by Truc, and hopeful that one day I'll find it.
I can't believe this came up when I did a search - Saw them at "Dubs" formally Russels in Gainesville, FL in 1985. Fun band. Hard to define. Kind of like the Tubes meets Todd Rundgren meets the Talking Heads I guess. I wonder what happened to them?
I can't believe I found this video either. I was just telling my hubby about this awesome show band back in the late 70s who rocked my world, so I googled them and found this. I saw them first at the XYZ in Lakeland, FL and then a ton of time at the Warehouse in Fort Myers. GOOD times.
OMG. You guys who talk about the KIKI Lounge in West Palm Beach! What a blast from the past. So many great nights there. Remember spoof on the Cars? Love them! Sue
My brother and I used to see them in Gainesville all the time, and a few times they played in Destin. The last time they played Destin, they dragged us up on stage, and we wore the costumes for this song, while they played behind us.
