I guess the one i got may be 70's late 60's, mine has the same sprocket, all original but needs some TLC, any suggestions for parts? Thanks and nice bike
Nice, i found this same bike in a yard last year. The fenders and chain guard weren't salvageable. Kept the cogs, polished the chrome with steal wool and coke. And got a clean coat of paint on it. I wish i saw your video before i decided to make it dark green. It looks amazing in its original blue.
@powderdtoast69 Mother's chrome polish on the chrome....Mother's Mag & Aluminum polish on the Aluminum. Both can be found at; Advanced Auto Parts, Walmart, Autozone.
@mickiez40oz thanks! im restoring a 1972 racer, and all my chrome bits are incredibly oxidized. i've been using turtle wax, but it kinda sucks allot. i'll give mother's a shot!
1) I love the 3-speed internal gear hubs with a passion. They could get hit with an atomic bomb, and still work perfectly.
2) I like the gum-walls. Nice touch. =)
3) Have you thought about changing the cables and leaving the housings on? it's a $10/30 minute job that pays off in the end. (I did this for my 1972 Varsity with exceptional results)
4) Forgive me, but mu rust OCD is kicking in. The best way I found to take rust off is to take aluminum foil, and dip it in water. =)
I have a red racer that was made on May 9th 1963, everything was original when I found it even the tires and the tubes inside the tires still held air.
