@venskus2009 I saw that, and I thought about it for a while. I think it's because the standard viola body is too small to actually get the best possible tone quality, because if it was built at the size required, it would be too big for anyone to actually be able to play it. So he had his built in some funky way to manipulate it to make a better tone.
@DanielMcDrtcomposer what is the "le sacre du printemps" chord??? I'm excited to know this. (this chord in the beginning is my favorite chord as well)
@whitestripesftw le sacre du printemps" is French for the RIte of Spring. The famous chord that caused mayhem is when Stravinsky superimposed an E domaint 7 chord (E, G#, B, D) with a Eb domainat 7 ( Eb, G,Bb, C#) (Think I have that right?/) It is in the first movement " Adoration Of The Earth" around the 3-4th min..Totally awesome :)
@austinsaxmansteve hi, No it is not the V chord in Ab Major in the rite. It is not that simple. The whole piece is employing polytonality (a superimposition of Emajor/Eb maj.) It is most definitely not in any particular key, so to start correcting harmonically is erroneous as it imply s that there is a predominate key. The C sharp could just as easily apply to the E major tonality throughout the tutti orchestra. :)
how could any1 not like this piece, it touches the very essence of emotion. charismatic, obscenely beautiful, and surprisingly complex as in dissonant in a good way.
Ah trombones. <3 this piece of music. Hell the whole brass section is stellar <3. I love Stravinsky too, man. This piece of music must have really created a stir! I love it, awesome in its intensity.
@Joeygame1018 I can just picture the people of those times and how this music must have been totally outrageous! I find it very exiciting to listen too ;-)
@meowkie Nobody said you look pretty playing oboe, your face and the space behind it really affect the instrument's sound. Bill Bennett is one of the finest oboists in the country, so until you can play like him, I'd less inclined to "crack up" about his expressions.
I did a performance of modern dancing with this wonderful music. Working with Carnegie Hall and the British choreographer Royston Maldoom and Conductor Simon Rattle, it was a great modern dance and very hard to learn the performance was amazing...I'm mad I'm pursuing nursing instead of dancing or music but it was an experience of a lifetime. I love this piece it really opened my eyes, ears and heart to great work like this one!
@alex19969999980: It seemed to me from what could be seen that one of the hornists DID have his horn on the ground while playing his Wagner-Tuba - on the other hand, when playing the horns, the Wagner-Tubas are placed upon stands right beath the players' music-stands...
@HectorJW2007: I'm not so sure about that: some people apparently have trouble with the high left-hand positions on a regular viol (which is a little bigger after all than a violin) - I've seen a few viols made where that right-upper side is made shallower than the norm. At least in this case the other side is made bigger so that the overall volume of air made to vibrate (especially inside the instrument) remains the same. Naturally any left-handed viol-player wouldn't be at ease with it...
@FungoBoy I'm not really a fan of his interpretation of the Sacrificial Dance because I find it's a little too well behaved. Everyone plays really well and tightly, but MMT over does it on the dynamic changes and totally rushes the end. Still, the whole interpretation of the piece is enjoyable. I just think his version of the last bit is not as good as the rest.
my mom saw this entirely several years ago and she was astonished when i told her it was a ballet.
