  • my mom saw this entirely several years ago and she was astonished when i told her it was a ballet.

  • that chord @5:35 is amazing.

  • this has to be the most difficult orchestra piece ever

  • 4:50 music so awesome it started to melt their french horns

  • Timpani Player forgot his music, decided he would just hit randomly and as loud as possible

  • Whoever said this is an ugly piece has not listened to it in it's entirety!

  • I love the energy at 2.14

  • 4:58 "Guiro's fury"

  • Most likely inspired by Handel's sarabande.

  • Does anyone even notice the 30 second trill on the flute?

    2:26

  • One of the best performances I have ever seen.

  • Omg.. 1:08 the cello old man is tchaikovsky

  • @MrSebas56 AHSUAHUSHAUHSU

  • i hate mtt

  • @muslit what is mtt

  • @quagdude MTT is short for Michael Tilson Thomas.. The conductor.

  • I found it very difficult to get over the fact that the conductor looks like Larry David with hair...

Amazing performance by the always great SFS, nonetheless.

  • @meowkie Haha, sorry, I don't want to start a flamewar on a page with such fantastic music. :)

  • I remember wondering as a kid why orchestras had a conductor.

Then i played in one and realized why.

  • @meowkie Double reed players in general are just rather unusual characters =P

    I'm one of them.

  • hehe, a MTT bi-polar moment 3:58

  • @jazzydrums95 HHAHAHAH TOO TRUE!

  • that one sane corner of the internet, no dislikes!!

  • 6:22 everyone looks like if they were on elcetric chairs XD holy crap!!!!

  • It is really refreshing to see people who actually appreciate music today:) And I absolutely love Stavinsky.

  • wow!!!

  • LOOK! At 3:09 the conductor looks like a hobo! Oh wait he looks like a hobo the whole time......

  • zinglewazzler

  • 1:25

Gong player is like:"was that ok,did i do fine?" XD

  • Anybody looking for the whole Salonen version, here it is :D

  • @meowkie he reminds me of an animal who prances around the forest lmao

  • That old man's viola at 6:23 looks awesome! :)

  • Not only is this good music, but these videos crack me up!

  • In Democratic America, Spring of Rite. ;D

  • Timpani balls up in this. Epic classic.

  • the ending of this is so epic

  • The violinist at 4:09 was definitely faking that run. Just sayin...

  • I like how everyone from 6:22 on looks like they're on fast-forward!

  • this is just so amazingly fabulous. so moving. and the performance by this symphony was fantastic!

  • Starting at around 5:00 sounds almost like a scary game show theme hehe

  • JEEEEEEZ schizoid filming. this camera guy has the attention span of a freaking dog.

  • I love the french horns and the violins in the first minute or so.

  • @liketammysaids And how!

  • Michael Tilson Thomas is one of the most entertaining conductors I have ever seen in my entire life.

  • @Nutterbutterz95 him and Leonard Bernstein

  • viola*

  • okay that dudes vialoa just might be the most amazing looking thing in the world. you now who im talking about.

  • @venskus2009 I saw that, and I thought about it for a while. I think it's because the standard viola body is too small to actually get the best possible tone quality, because if it was built at the size required, it would be too big for anyone to actually be able to play it. So he had his built in some funky way to manipulate it to make a better tone.

  • Why the hell is Rebecca Black's Friday on the top of the related video list?

  • @KimKhan She's the chosen one perhaps

  • @Darkserpentes ill love to see her dancing herself to death

  • That chord: Bb-F-Bb-F-F#-Bb still gets me every time far more than the famous "le sacre du printemps" chord.

  • @DanielMcDrtcomposer what is the "le sacre du printemps" chord??? I'm excited to know this. (this chord in the beginning is my favorite chord as well)

  • @whitestripesftw le sacre du printemps" is French for the RIte of Spring. The famous chord that caused mayhem is when Stravinsky superimposed an E domaint 7 chord (E, G#, B, D) with a Eb domainat 7 ( Eb, G,Bb, C#) (Think I have that right?/) It is in the first movement " Adoration Of The Earth" around the 3-4th min..Totally awesome :)

  • @DanielMcDrtcomposer thanks for the info :)

  • @DanielMcDrtcomposer Spell the Eb7 chord Eb-G-Bb-Db (not C#). It's the V chord in Ab Major.

  • @austinsaxmansteve hi, No it is not the V chord in Ab Major in the rite. It is not that simple. The whole piece is employing polytonality (a superimposition of Emajor/Eb maj.) It is most definitely not in any particular key, so to start correcting harmonically is erroneous as it imply s that there is a predominate key. The C sharp could just as easily apply to the E major tonality throughout the tutti orchestra. :)

  • Use this time and end at pause 4:07

  • ahhh stravinsky....you crazy ass russian.

  • @rreemmzzrruullee What's an ass russian?

  • 5:34 the dancing out of the earth ( just a clip)

  • What kind of viola is that at 2:17?!

  • I think this is my favorite bit. I love the lower strings part!

  • @meowkie That's a basoon. Not an oboe.

  • @penguinmn12890 The dude at 0:07? I'm pretty sure that's an oboe. Take a look! watch?v=DhygJyCvYeA

  • 6:45-6:49 Best part of the whole video. Intense staring contest XP

  • how could any1 not like this piece, it touches the very essence of emotion. charismatic, obscenely beautiful, and surprisingly complex as in dissonant in a good way.

  • 5:17 LOL!

  • Ah trombones. <3 this piece of music. Hell the whole brass section is stellar <3. I love Stravinsky too, man. This piece of music must have really created a stir! I love it, awesome in its intensity.

  • @LLJtbone well, it did cause a riot the first time it was performed, so i'd say that it had some effect on people

  • @Joeygame1018 I can just picture the people of those times and how this music must have been totally outrageous! I find it very exiciting to listen too ;-)

  • @meowkie Nobody said you look pretty playing oboe, your face and the space behind it really affect the instrument's sound. Bill Bennett is one of the finest oboists in the country, so until you can play like him, I'd less inclined to "crack up" about his expressions.

  • @swanduckify Calm down, hun, I'm just enjoying myself. :) I love the oboe and I admire the player's skill and ability very much. Lighten up!

  • This a Beauitful piece of music i love the strains like feeling. I love how all the so expressional when they play :D

  • I did a performance of modern dancing with this wonderful music. Working with Carnegie Hall and the British choreographer Royston Maldoom and Conductor Simon Rattle, it was a great modern dance and very hard to learn the performance was amazing...I'm mad I'm pursuing nursing instead of dancing or music but it was an experience of a lifetime. I love this piece it really opened my eyes, ears and heart to great work like this one!

  • It maybe too dangerous if the 7th and 8th horn put their horns on the floor when using Wagner Horn.

  • @alex19969999980: It seemed to me from what could be seen that one of the hornists DID have his horn on the ground while playing his Wagner-Tuba - on the other hand, when playing the horns, the Wagner-Tubas are placed upon stands right beath the players' music-stands...

  • Lol guiro quadruplets FTW

  • OMG at 0:34 look at one of the violas... is a little.. huh.. "oversized"?:)

Salonen was better and the LA Phil

  • That is a weird looking viola... dude just wants to stand out, heh heh

  • @HectorJW2007: I'm not so sure about that: some people apparently have trouble with the high left-hand positions on a regular viol (which is a little bigger after all than a violin) - I've seen a few viols made where that right-upper side is made shallower than the norm. At least in this case the other side is made bigger so that the overall volume of air made to vibrate (especially inside the instrument) remains the same. Naturally any left-handed viol-player wouldn't be at ease with it...

  • @HectorJW2007 the viola is made to be ergonomic for his hands, to reduce the stress. not to stand out.

  • Okay, MTT may have the worst Sacrificial Dance, but his Dance of the Earth is incredible

  • @tommyk77 hi i'm just curious, which specific part of his interpretation makes this the "worst" Dance?

  • @FungoBoy I'm not really a fan of his interpretation of the Sacrificial Dance because I find it's a little too well behaved. Everyone plays really well and tightly, but MMT over does it on the dynamic changes and totally rushes the end. Still, the whole interpretation of the piece is enjoyable. I just think his version of the last bit is not as good as the rest.

  • @tommyk77 *MTT

  • @tommyk77 how is it the worst

  • @marochima2 Already explained that. Might not be 'the worst', but I just don't like it.
