My daughter who is now 22 months loves watching this video of Reuben and tries to imitate him she also has CHARGE and continues to inspire me and the rest of people that come in contact with her as Reuben has inspired her and myself to work on signing so she can communicate with everyone.

My son has Charge Sydnrome as well. He is 13 months old now and we just started to learn ASL. He is not able to imitate any actions yet. I hope some day he will be doing just like your son.

Hi my brother is 23 years old, we are from Puerto Rico and when he was born in 1987 no one knew about CHARGE syndrome. It was hard for us since doctors could not diagnose him, they even told my parents that my brother would never be able to walk! Today he is 23, has gone under 7 surgeries, he walks, he runs, he is totally independent, the only thing he cannot do correctly is talk, but he does it through sing language! @chapulina2 Thank you so much for sharing your story. We'll continue to be inspired by those like your brother. One year on, Reuben now helps us teach his 1 year old brother to sign. He no longer has a trach and is learning to talk

@MSjGERSH hi and thanks for your comment. It took a few days of practice for Reuben though I started to learn to sign and thus taught him as soon as I got the diagnosis (7 days old). Reuben is fully blown CHARGE too with heart defects, the trach (now out!), mod-severe deafness and physical disabilities. He has tremendous patience to learn so that helps.

So beautiful. My son (now 10) has partial CHARGE and has only required 2 surgeries.Thank you for being vulnerable and posting your babe for us. He is amazing and my son watched to see how blessed he is to have escaped the devastating effected of full CHARGE. Reuben is very bright!

@lifemoms thanks. It doesn't feel devastating to us, the surgeries are yes, but Reuben is the most wondrous person I've ever known. I'm in awe of him. We ourselves feel very blessed, CHARGE or not.

I have a 2 yr old son that has CHARGE and he's got all the complication of a charge syndrome... He had undergone 13 surgeries so far and another one coming this year!!! He's got trach and gtube... Check my videos... "Kevin Jake with charge syndrome". Congratulations and good luck...

@kukie14 hi and thanks. Best of luck to you. Reuben's also had multiple surgeries, about 16 and with another open heart to come. Reu's now decannulated from his trach (at age 3) and is doing great and finally speaking.
